princess theater (so saving seats announcement)

I guess it is their way of saying "unlike theatre etiquette observed in the real world, feel free to come in and make your way to the middle of a row halfway through the performance" (as those seats are no longer "saved").

I have also noticed that the recorded request for no audio or video recording no longer states that flash photography is prohibited. The woman sitting behind me two years ago who easily took 50 pictures that lit up nothing but the back of my head would be pleased.

On the Golden this last couple of weeks, I remember hearing no flash photography, right after the no audio or videotaping. Also, the announcement about not saving seats was made soon after we arrived for the shows we went to in the Princess theater (we did arrive about 15 or 20 minutes early, just because we were through with dinner).

I don't know about the first two performances of some of the shows, but the ones we went to (usually the later ones), there wasn't a problem with a lack of seating.

We were on the CB during Hanukkah and the seat saving was rampant by older folks no less who should know better.

There were usually 2 of them saving about 10 or so seats. One would stand on the end of the 10 seats being saved and another at the other end of the other 10 seats gazing up to the entrances until they spotted some of their party when they would frantically wave until they were spotted.

On one night the group finally arrived and they asked us to move down 2 more seats which i begrudgingly did.

About 5 minutes later they asked if we would move down 1 more.

My wife and i got up and moved somewhere else.

The first show usually had plenty of seating but the 2 later shows if you didn't get there within 20 to 30 minutes of the show starting seating was scarce .

That's when you wish one of the crew members would come by, helping to find some seats for people, point to those chairs. If the seat savers say their friends are sitting there, the crew members could say sorry, but these seats are needed.

I recently had an experience where a man was trying to save a whole row of seats. I told him that I would just sit in one of them until his party showed, which, of course, they never did.

I don't mind if someone says, "My wife just went to the restroom and I am saving her seat" but people trying to save huge blocks in case everybody they know on the ship shows up, is just ridiculous.

I was on one Princess cruise last year where a woman was saving three seats in the Princess Theater. Another couple came in and took two of them. I thought there would be a fist fight before the ensuing confrontation ended, but there was not one. I forget if a Princess staff person came down to help or not.

The result was that the saved seats went to the couple that came in and sat in them.

A few years ago a lady was saving an entire row by herself by standing in the middle and shooing people away. A couple came in and took the two seats on the aisle. She ranted at them and they absolutely completely ignored her. Her party finally arrived about one minute before the lights went down and in the confusion, guess who was left without a seat? :D:D It was hilarious!!! :p More entertaining than the show!!!

I have no problem at all with a person saving a seat for a partner. No big deal.

But let's think about the saving of whole or half rows. Why are they doing it? Do they all need to sit in a big long row? No Way. If their friends show up late they can take what seats are left.

What's happening here is that a whole bunch of people are too busy, or don't care enough, to bother to get to the theater on time to get a seat so one of their friends hogs a whole row for them. Nonsense.

The theater is a first-come first-served venue and I have no problem telling the row hogs that their behavior is not allowed by Princess or by me.

If everyone just said, "I am sorry, Princess does not allow saving seats for friends who are not yet here" it wouldn't take long for this to stop.

On our first Princess cruise in 2007 they were making the announcement for all the good it did. We found the first show to be almost impossible to get seats unless we ran there right after dinner at least 1/2 hour before show time.

DH and my cousin's husband were saving 2 seats for us while we visited the ladies room. We entered the theater right behind an older gentleman and his wife and they headed right for our 2 seats. DH was standing there looking for us and he tried to tell him we were right there behind him. The "gentleman" was quite rude and kept telling DH he couldn't save seats.

DH finally answered in the same tone telling him to move on. The crazy thing is there was a whole row right in front of us that was empty! Why he had to zero in on those particular seats was beyond me.

We did notice he gave DH a wide berth in the theater after that. I even heard him commenting, "I'm staying away from that guy!" We finally realized that the second show was much less attended, given the demographic of that cruise, so we hit the casino after dinner then the show.

On my last Princess Cruise (Ruby) a group of people who wanted to stay in the casino until the last minute sent their kids (10 or 12 years old) to save the entire first row. (My preferred spot!) ;) I politely informed the kids that you weren't allowed to save seats, and especially the entire row, and I sat down, front row center. They got all huffy, and when their parents and their friends arrived, they just had to sit on both sides of us. Very sad indeed!

Several years ago on a Thanksgiving cruise we arrived early ( at least 30 minutes)to the lounge for the comedy show. Even with 30 minutes the place was crowded. There was a woman and her husband who were saving 14 seats. My response was "not tonight you aren't". We sat down in the two end seats and listened to this couple express their displeasure with us to every person who wanted to sit down, but turned away.

Their party arrived about 10 minutes after the show started. Only five seats were used!

Next night in the theater same couple, same thing for the first row! It was great to see a Princess employee tell them they could not save that many seats.

On one of our cruises my wife was going to take an open seat in a theatre (bench style seats) as she was set to sit down a women slid under her. With my wife sitting on her lap she told my wife the seat was saved. We moved on.

On our Island cruise in November we got to the show around 10 minutes before showtime and the theater was PACKED. There were four seats in a middle row which someone had saved (despite the no saving of seats annoucement). My friend and I decided to go sit anyway. This man decided to sit in the middle of my friend and i, as if that would stop us from seeing the show! He begrudingly moved over after he saw we werent going anywhere.

You snooze, you lose!
