Breakfast at Chops?

Recommended Posts

In reference to the original question which was about the Liberty. We are D+ and have sailed the Liberty 5 times, sometimes in suites, sometimes in balconies. The first 4 times there were signs outside of Chops and Portofinos advertising that Chops was for Suite guests only and Portofinos was for Diamond and above. Both were available in the morning and during lunch. You just got your own food and went in and sat down. There was always a waiter in there serving coffee in the am and drinks at lunch. Now, on my last Liberty cruise last month, there was no sign in front of Portofinos and we were in a balcony cabin. As usual we just went ahead and got our food and went in and sat down. We actually had the same waiter at breakfast and he remembered us from previous cruises. I of course asked first if it was okay to sit in there because the sign wasn't there and he said it was, but we were the only two people in there the whole 4 days of our sailing. When I mentioned to the concierge (who was new) that I thought this was one of the best perks he had no idea what I was talking about, so I am assuming the sign was missing because the new Concierge didn't know what the old Concierge had done? Hope that makes sense.

Sorry, no lunch.

On port days, only lunch possibilities are Windjammer and room service.

On sea days, lunch is served in the MDR, as well as in Giovanni's Table ($15 per person) and Izumu. I wouldn't recommend Izumu for lunch because they don't serve 99% of the menu during that time. Giovanni's Table was a nice change for lunch.

Kind regards,

Gunther and Uta

Thanks! That's good to know about Izumi. I am looking forward to at least one dinner there, but would hate to go for lunch wanting nigiri and only be able to get rolls and miso.:p Thanks for all the info, it really is helpful. This is why I love CC!:D

hey there , ?......are you sitting down and ordering food there or just bringing food from buffet and sitting..........its a little confusing..........thanks....B

On the Mariner in January they cooked breakfast to order and had for lunch they would cook you a chicken breast, steak, salmon or the special of the day. Or you were free to hit the buffet and bring it into Chops.

They served lunch every day includng embarkation, and port days. We stayed onboard in one of the ports and were pleasantly surprised that we could eat in Chops for lunch. It is one of our favorite suite guest perks.

On debarkation morning they had the full cooked to order breakfast before the Concierge escorted us to the gangway.

As others have said, it depends on the ship. On Vision (no specialty restaurants yet), the Gold Card breakfast was on Deck 5 of the MDR, where we could order off the regular breakfast menu. The difference was that everything was cooked for the table size, not a mass production, so the food was hotter and seemed tastier. There was also a small cold buffet with fruit, cereal, yogurt, cheese, etc.

On Jewel and Brilliance, the cooked to order breakfast in Chops was interesting, but Jewel's Windjammer food offerings were superior IMO, so we only went on days when the WJ would have been crowded. Because she doesn't have a Diamond Lounge, either, there was also a small dining room for D and up, which was very nice as well. On debarkation day, Chops was the gold card lounge and there was "only" a continental offering.

On Freedom, there was a breakfast in Portofino ( made to order eggs, cereals, breads etc) or you could bring your breakfast in from Windjammer. I like the bagels and lox and capers, so I always brought mine in. it is tone of the nicer perks of a suite. This summer it did not have the Platinum and above sign, but the shipop was FULL!

Same thing on the Navigator, always got my eggs done exactly the way I like.

It sounds like you stutter when you write like that. The mini bar in the room has sodas, bottles of water, cookies and some stale candy. Nothing really worthwhile, and prices are the same if you buy fresh, plus the same 15% gratuity.

Or are you asking about the concierge lounge? :)

No self serve bar in the Concierge Lounge. Royal still has some old wording somehwere in their website referencing some sort of "honor" bar, but that's not the way it is. You are served by one or more bar servers during the evening cocktail hour from about 5pm to 8:30pm.

The only self serve feature of the Concierge and Diamond Lounges is the speciality coffee machine.

The description of the Concierge Lounge may say there is a self serve bar, but there's not. During the cocktail hour, usually 5-8:30 or 4:30-8pm there are bar servers (waiters) that take orders and fix drinks.

It may also be for upper tier Crown & Anchor members. On Freedom of the Seas, they had a sign inviting Platinum and higher members to eat in Chops for breakfast and lunch.

I wondered about this because when we were on the Liberty of the Seas out of Barcelona they had a sign and we didn't notice until we were on the second to the last day after breakfast. We will be on Liberty again next week and thought it that were the case I would rather eat there than walking around the windjammer looking for an empty spot. ;)

Oh, that is so true. Even though you're still eating buffet food, enjoying it in Chops is a very different experience from having it in the Windjammer. It's much quieter in there, and you get personalized service for your drinks. It's definitely the way to go, in my opinion.

My advice would be if there is no sign outside out of Portofinos ask the staff there. They were very accommodating to us and as I said, we were the only 2 people in there for breakfast and lunch the entire 4 days. It was great. Enjoy the Liberty. It's a great ship with a great crew.

I agree. This is one of my favorite perks.

When on Voyager, loved getting the food myself then sitting in Portofino's.

On Brilliance they had the cooked to order in Chops and did not care for it at all. We did use a small section roped off in the WJ for gold colored cards but it was not 'personalized' service like in the specialty restaurants. At least there was no table searching though!!:)

  • 4 months later...

We are Diamond. We ate breakfast in either Chops or Portifinos after getting our food in the Windjammer..forget with one...going on the Brilliance in a few months. Whats the deal on that ship for Diamond Guests eating in the Windjammer?

I don't recall hearing about any special breakfast area for Diamond on Brilliance.

awhile back there was a daily Diamond breakfast area when we sailed on Radiance and Navigator, same menu as MDR but much quieter. Not sure if they still have it and wondering what they may opffer on oasis when we sail on her this fall

They also had a nice MDR quick lunch and salad bar on the sea days. They guarateed quick service..and made to order salads. Is that still offered on any of the ships?

Yes, the Tutti Salad is still offered in the MDR for lunch on sea days.
