Introducing the Carnival Vista

I approve of the new name! Carnival Vista, to be followed by Carnival Star, Carnival Sky, and Carnival Sea: time to bring back the former names of the Royal Viking Line ships.

 

Kind of reminds me of how royal used some of carnival names and just dropped the carnival and added of the seas.

yeah and it's too bad. carnival's marketing strategy or lack thereof is troublesome... although, such can be expected when they do not truly have anything 'innovative' to market, if it is just a tweaked ship class as it has been for a decade. 'oh look, we added a bar with a new theme' will fail to resonate.

 

this is why i expect we'll see a tweaked dream class / breeze to add 5k grt. that's not a hell of a lot of innovation.

actually, they probably could because there will always be a demographic demand for the 'cheapest cruises'... however, it is penny wise and pound foolish to seek to exist only in that market niche and demographic.

 

if they remain to target only that demo, they would alienate their existing repeat customers (which i would maintain they have, most recently). it does seem clear that they are however targeting that primary market most heartily, which is fine, however i believe there is a backlash which is starting to form.

 

and if the product is cut to the bare bones, those first time cruisers they target may go elsewhere to seek a superior product.

 

a fine balancing act it is, and one for which i think they should carefully consider their strategy, because as far as i can see, they are failing in staying on the wire recently.

It will actually be less than 3 years we have to wait according to Butch. During his morning show last month on our cruise he said they would start cutting steel in January and the ship should be complete Feb/Mar 2016. Less than 3 years from now.

Carnival will inspire you (and me) with low prices.

 

That's what they always done successfully.

If you need bells and whistles and rock walls and flow riders for inspiration

you know where to find them -at 40% extra cost. :)

The ONLY reason why CCL is cheaper is because people see the line as being of low quality. RCl doesn't charge more to pay the bill on the flowrider or wear and tear on the rock wall, it charges more because they can. You should learn about this thing called "market demand". Bragging about value is a nice way of saying that CCL is the bottom of the barrrell and because it is so terrible that you can cruise it for less than any other lines.

The CCL ship follows the CCL trend of cramming too many people on an antiquated ship design. Look at the numbers:

Vista- 4,000 people, 135,000 tons

Allure/Oasis 6200people 220,000 tons

Nothing special about it. The last noteworthy thing that CCL did was put a water slide on a ship, that was over 13 years ago- yawn!

 

Vista will be just a bloated version of a Dream class ship- have just a couple of pools to serve the 4,000 passengers on sea days. If you get bored standing up in one, you can amuse yourself by thinking how many fellow cruisers have relieved themselves in it. Too may people, lousy food, lousy service, lapses in safety,lack of entertainment, where's the value?

With no activities during the day, you can also play "chair hog wars", fighting for a lounger after taking someone's banana or wash rag off it.

Wow, that really sounds like fun! CCL is a stale product. You might think you are getting a deal on stale bread that is 50% cheaper than fresh bread, but stale,moldy bread is still stale, moldy bread- that's what CCL has become.

Carnival is cheaper because they can be. They have greater economies of scale other cruise lines dream about. Day in and day out, no cruise line can compete with Carnival on price or value. The others simply suffer from cruise ship envy.

We do realize this ship is scheduled for 2016... 3 years from now how many new ships will other lines build before the vista?

I see this on multiple threads. All the other lines are building and carnival isn't doing anything until 2016. Lets look at some facts.

 

RCI

Last ship built was allure of the seas in 2010. Next ship being built in 2014. A 4 year span.

During that time carnival introduced two ships.

 

Ncl

Between the jade in 2006. And epic in 2010 a span of four years carnival built 3 ships while ncl sat idle in shipbuilding. Then ncl had another idle period from 2010- 2013 between epic and breakaway and carnival produced another ship.

 

Carnival has 24 ships

RCI has 21

Ncl has 12.

If you look at what Fincantieri puts out, logically speaking it will probably be some sort of derivation on the Dream class.

I think its a shame so many nay-sayers are already coming out of the woodwork. In the 20th century during the "golden age" of cruising there was no need for nee flashy bells and whistles to attract clientele. Its actually a sad reflection of modern society that we crave these bells and whistles like 4d theaters, rock walls, etc to entertain ourselves. What happened to being able to entertain ones self?

I have now been on 3 cruises and I barely engage in what even Carnival offers. We eat in the mdr and maybe see a comedy show... occasional trivia and occasional 10 bucks in the casino. Beyond that we just enjoy life at sea.

Now Pride is leaving Baltimore soon and I may have to explore rccl as a replacement. Now all I hope when I do, all you folks screaming pay a little more to get far superior experience, prooves right. I hope im blown away by my slightly smaller cabin and what must be plush deck chairs and food that should be featured on Food Network. Haha nay-sayers and the age of entitlement crack me up.

While im annoyed at their decision to pull pride, and wish they were replacing her. What I can tell you is... Carnival is not in any danger of losing market share. If anything they will continue to introduce people to cruising and those that feel they need to graduate to bigger and better things will and those that are happy will continue to sail. Thats just how the industry works.

Hi welcome to the Carnival board. Glad to see you posting about the new Carnival Vista.

Please do share how NCL planned and built the Breakaway with no lag time? I know I first read

about it (hey I am slow!) in early 2011 and they had her sailing by 2013! Holy cow!

Every cruise line has periods of time when the pace of new orders slows down; ALL cruise lines do it to varying degrees. Its the nature of the beast so to speak.
