curlygirl18 Posted October 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2013 I hope so!! I generally only cruise during the winter months and right now can't do longer than 7 days. It would be nice to not start my cruise in a cold weather state since one of the reasons I cruise is to escape the cold. I'd love a to leave a florida port and hit Bermuda, maybe since the law is changing this might happen. fingers crossed.
RYMOMA Posted October 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2013 bermuda in the winter?? as in a November to April time frame??? i doubt it.. Hamilton shuts down in the winter we ended up there last year in November and not much was open.
mitsugirly Posted October 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2013 You do realize Bermuda is "up" from Florida right? So escaping and going to warm weather won't happen during the winter months if you are going to Bermuda from Florida. That's why they don't have any of the ships going to Bermuda during that time. :)

You are missing out then, I have done the 10 nighter out of NY multiple times in January and the weather has been perfect down there.
punkincc Posted October 9, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 9, 2013 Average January temp for St Thomas is 84, St Martin 72-86, Nassau 77. Like Hawaii, temperatures don't fluctuate that much.

I agree. Eastern Caribbean is fine in January. However, don't do a Florida/Bahamas itinerary at that time. January 2010 was exciting, with 28 degrees in Charleston, SC, 45 degrees (!) in Key West, 65 degrees in Nassau and 70 degrees on Coco Cay. I have a very nice sweatshirt from Key West now. A friend was getting ready for a cruise out of Port Canaveral that same week and found a new use for his medical insurance card -- when you rent cars in Orlando they don't come with ice scrapers! Bocadude85 Posted October 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 9, 2013 Thats not a common occurrence in South Florida. This past winter we were in the 80's during most of January.

Delaware Alan Yeah - we actually had snow (flurries) a few times that year in SW Florida. Jan and Feb can be really cold - too cold to chance a cruise, unless it's Western Caribbean. Well, unless you like 60-ish degrees. That's not cruising weather to me! Even in December it can be cold. We went to Discovery Cove at the end of December this past year and froze! mafig Posted October 9, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 9, 2013 A few years ago Costa had two cruises from Florida in April. We went and the weather was very nice .... high 70's. The water was very cold, however, if you wanted to go swimming. I saw lots of people in wetsuits. Royal Caribbean has three cruises next year from Florida to Bermuda. 10 day itinerary ~ June, August and September.
mitsugirly Posted October 9, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 9, 2013 I'm just wondering what the difference is between cruising the Eastern Caribbean and the Western Caribbean in the winter months? I can't imagine it being any different temperature wise and we have cruised western several times in the winter and it was hot. Why would someone say not to do Eastern in the winter?
spidybabe Posted October 9, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 9, 2013 Never had bad weather cruising from NY in Jan to either carribean or florida. In Florida we were able to enjoy the beach there and at the out island without problems- weather was great 82-88 degrees everyday. Before we left I kept warning my dd that it may not be warm enough to swim, but the weather g-ds were with us. Never had problem in carribean except sometimes too hot and humid (we aren't used to it in the middle of Jan) Safe sailing
emcelh Posted October 9, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 9, 2013 It's all relative. If you're coming from the Northeast with temperatures below freezing, having temperatures in the 70's or even high 60's might not seem so bad, even if it isn't exactly beach weather. I think some may be thinking of the Bahamas, which is not much farther south than Florida. If there is a cold snap, it can rarely get cool in Florida and the Bahamas. The Virgin Islands, St Martin, etc are all much further south.
jdvmd Posted October 9, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 9, 2013 Caribbean is fine. Bermuda would be too cold, however, for the kind of itinerary you are proposing, OP.
bingo3 Posted October 10, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 10, 2013 Bremuda is in line with the Carolina's and gets similar weather in the winter, minus any snow, but is colder than Caribbean ports. Their water is even cold to me in May, early June, just like our beaches. debbie
3DBeach Posted October 10, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 10, 2013 I would love to cruise to Bermuda one day but would prefer to go from a FL port as opposed to from NY. We like to either go down a few days before or stay a few days after the cruise and having lived in NY for 28 years I'd rather go from FL. LMaxwell Posted October 10, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 10, 2013 I would do it! RCI's 10 day itinerary doesn't work for me. It starts on a Monday and basically requires TWO full work weeks off. I don't need to go to Charleston that bad....and I can DEFINITELY live without Nassau. Why a Bermuda cruise needs to go to Nassau I don't know. But if they ran 7 day cruises from Florida to Bermuda I would go. By they I mean NCL, RCI, Carnival, whoever. I have never been there and leaving from FL means not having to fly!
