Reflection - nfl games on sunday?

We will be sailing out of Maimi and are big NFL fans. Does anyone know if/where the NFL games will be shown on Reflection?

I trust it is too much to hope that Celebrity actually has the NFL package, but perhaps will show games on FOX, ESPN, etc........? What about the Monday night game?

Thanks for any information. Would HATE to miss our Chargers as they are actually playing Miami on the Sunday after we sail (poor timing on our behalf to miss the game).

Thanks for any info!

Hi:) I can give you my experiences. Each ship seems to have their own

way of doing things.

Reflection has a bar in the casino with 3 screens. There has been

football show on them before.

I will say in all my years of cruising during football season, I have never

seen "THE NFL PACKAGE".....

If there is a specific game you want to see? Ask about it after you

board the ship.

Celebrity gets their "NFL FEED" through ESPN but the games are the

ones shown on CBS/FOX.......as for Monday night, since that is an ESPN

program, yes, there is a chance that will be shown.

Now, I know other folks have posted different experiences from mine

as this is a question that comes up a lot during football season.

But I will say, if the game is a "Can't Miss" for you... Then I would DVD it

from home because there is a chance you will not find it on board.

They do show the playoffs and the Superbowl as I have sailed during

those events over the years.....much different than a regular Sunday.

They normally have a full set up of food, etc.......BIG SCREEN, etc....

Also, since you sail on Sunday, remember sail day is always busy.

I don't know if your game is at home in S.D. which would be late

on the East Coast.......that would be sailaway/muster/etc......

Anyway, good luck...you need both, the Broncos and Chiefs to start

losing since you are in the same division;)

PS Hope you have a great cruise:) oh, and I have seen them on the

tv in the cabin before as well.

Hi Lois - thanks for the helpful information. By NFL package - I meant the DirecTV/NFL football package you can buy.

Hopefully we'll get lucky and get the game on. My DH is in a fantasy football league - so he likes to get the scores, etc. I'm sure it will all be OK.

I do remember being on a cruise over Superbowl on a HAL ship and they did a big event for it - lots of fun. I wouldn't expect anything like that for regular season games, just hoping they have a viewing area where we can get some drinks and watch a game.

FYI - well the Broncos loss to Indy helped a bit - but those Chiefs seem pretty good this year.

Hi....no, there are no TV packages to buy, Direct TV, NFL Package,

or anything like that.

If there are games on and you want to watch? As I mentioned,

you can sit at the bar in the casino.

No other "viewing areas"..........

The only games they might show are ones on ESPN Deportes, usually one game on Sunday. They might also show the Sunday and Monday night games.

Cruise lines cannot afford those NFL Sunday Ticket packages because they would have to pay rates based on the potential number of persons watching.

I'd also imagine you'd be able to view in your stateroom if its on tv in the casino. Celebrity is probably missing out on some nice drink sales revenue by not tapping into the NFL's popularity.

You might think so but I have walked by the Casino while a game has

been on before.....seems they are not missing out on much. Yes, there

were people sitting there but not enough to make a big difference.

It seems once folks board the ship, they prefer other venues;)...like

being outside:D

And yes, if the games are on, the tv in your stateroom carries them too.

To add to what Lois said, they won't show anything before sailaway so that pretty much kills the 1:00P.M. games....

From my vast experience of sailing during NFL season, I can offer my best guess. At least in your cabin, you'll get a 1pm, 4pm, and 8pm game. There's very little chance of Chargers/Miami being the 1pm game as the ship probably gets the TV feed from the most popular matchup as dictated to them by the station. Your only chance is getting local Miami TV before sailaway, however Miami rarely sells out and so game would be blacked out locally. Bring a radio with headphones and find out the Dolphins station. Game will end around time of muster drill.

I've had some luck watching the outdoor screen of nearby Carnival or Princess ships when docked prior to sailaway....the things I do for fantasy football....I'm taking a January cruise specifically because the weekend playoff games are sea days which won't interfere with port excursions.

You'll also get the Monday and Thursday night games too.

Hey..we leave on Sat, so you will be fine for Sunday games. :-) go LIONS. :-)

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Forums mobile app

I wish that the Lions would go. Go to LA and then they could be called the Lion Kings of La La Land and hopefully we would then get a real NFL team.

WOW:eek:....you have seen the Thursday night game on board? That

is amazing since it is through the NFL Network....you have seen

way more games than most folks since the 1pm/4pm games are not

"a given" that they will be shown.

You should have no problem getting sports. On out last cruise, I was able to watch MSU basketball over wifi, through Time Warner Cable.

THe games were on in the bars too.

What bars are you referring to? I would say 99% of the bars on Celebrity

do not have tv's.

Are you guys saying, basically, that the "sports" bar is in the casino on Reflection? That would be a bummer. Does Michael's Club, the beer and whiskey bar, have tvs? Unrelated but do the bars have bar snacks?

We usually cruise with Packer players in March, so no NFL to worry about, but NHL, sometimes.

Spartan, the only time we sailed during NFL season was our Panama Canal cruise. Had to set my fantasy football lineup for 3 weeks ahead of time, to be sure none of the players were on bye while we were gone. I took a beating those weeks. Hope your DH isn't in a money league.

Lois:

We saw it on our Summit cruise last year but it was a special circumstance. The cruise was out of Bayonne to Bermuda, it was opening night on that Thursday and the Giants were playing Dallas. Since so many people were from New York they set up a buffet and a bar in the conference room and got the feed I think from the NFL network. It was a lot of fun, no commercials until some got drunk. Wife and I left at halftime as we have seen too many bar fights in our day.

Hi Don:) hope you are doing well. As for that particular game? It sounds

logical it would be shown....due to where the cruise started from;)

Hi, Michael's is now considered more of a craft brewery place

but I think there is 1 tv (behind the bar).

Celebrity's ships have not had sports bars in years.....the last one

I remember was on Millennium in 2012. I watched playoff games up

there in Jan 2012.

She no longer has that area (it was up on 12) but when she was

"Solsticizied" it was removed.....it is now a restaurant.

Oh to answer your question.....yes, for a "regular Sunday game"

The tvs in the Casino are where it would be a "sports bar"

There are 3 tvs on the wall....it is set up that way on all the

S class ships, not just Reflection.

The only bar with TV's is the bar in the casino that serves as the sports bar. Sometimes you may be able to get games on the TV in your cabin. It all depends on the feed that the ship is getting. I don't remember if Miichaels club had TVs but if any did they would be the only other one to have them.

The cable only runs a certain distance then the ship has to drop it.

The satellite feed depends on the area that they are in. I have seen some games that were being broadcast with Spanish speaking announcers.

Bars usually provide some kind of munchies such as mini pretzels or a mini cracker peanut mix. Found that they usually only supply it to those that order a drink.
