Seems Royal caribbean is still losing bookings,because of smoking band.

First, this non-smoking issue, in reality is a non-issue. Here in Ohio, bars, resturants, casinos, public bldgs., and even some state supported universities are non-smoking. For a very, very short amount time was a down swing in business. However, when everyone figured out that the law wasn't going to be changed, it has been business as usual, and boy am I glad. Every time I went to a bar for the smoking ban, I had to take off my clothes and take them to the laundry room, since they reeked of smoke. The same will hold true for RC fro a business stand point. Maybe, they will take a small hit initially, but soon after things will be back to normal.

 

Secondly, I ran out of popcorn reading all of these smoking threads, so I had to finally reply. :) Good thing DW is getting home form the store with more Reddenbocker's.:D

 

I have to agree with you there. One of the things I loved about London was going out at night to a pub, not having to deal with any smoke, and not stinking of stale smoke after we left for the night.

Wrong again. If that were true they would still allow smoking in the Casinos on Celebrity ships. Mark my word, smoking will be banned in the casinos on Royal Caribbean ships and sooner than most think.

 

They just have to take small steps, one step at a time, to ban smoking here and there until eventually no smoking anywhere on board. And the time will come when people will say, almost in an astonished tone, people used to smoke on cruise ships?

 

Just like they say…

people used to smoke in Hospitals?

people used to smoke in grocery stores?

people used to smoke on airplanes?

people used to smoke in restaurants?

people used to smoke in the workplace?

etc, etc, etc.

My wife and I are both smokers and balcony snobs. We sail Celebrity and RCCL. We are gamblers as well. On Celebrity we get inside cabins and dont go to the casino. We will continue to cruise, just in inside cabins now instead of balconies. If RCCL cuts out smoking in the casino, they will lose money from us. They are not losing customers like us, just revenue from us.

 

And they gain the revenue from the sold out balconies and the non-smokers in the casino.

 

Funny that you are gamblers but won't go in the casino on Celebrity because you can't smoke? Smoking keeps you from doing things you enjoy?

I did not say that it would. My point was that right now there are plenty of smokers to keep it full.... and make me walk through as fast as possible when I am in too much of a rush to take a route around it.

Agree. With a ban the smokers would be replaced by non-smokers who like to gamble but can't stand the smoke. Most of the people on any given night in the casino (when I have been onboard) are not smoking in there. It is the ones who are smoking that are the problem. When the casinos become non-smoking on Royal Caribbean there will be far more people happy about the ban than not. And as stated, the casinos will remain full.

We just got off the Allure on a B2B, and the Oasis the week before and in all three cruises, the Captain said we had over 6,000 passengers. Since the regular posted capacity is 5,400, I can't see where they are losing bookings. I can't answer how the smokers are spending their money, but there were plenty of them on the ships.

Uh, the policy has not yet gone into effect.

I am very allergic to cigarette smoke - We just sailed on the NCL Sun and the only place it bothered me was in the Casino, so I stayed out of there. There was very little smoke anywhere near our balcony, and it did not bother me at all on the pool deck. Sorry smokers....I'm all for a ban "band" on smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!on smoking!!!!!!!!!

 

Why are you sorry because you are for a band/ ban on smoking.You have your opinion others have their opinion.Yours is no more important then anyone else. :D :) Have a clean air day.From a non smoker.

I did write them, and spoke with them on the phone. I also know they review this forum and use what they read here and other forums to assist them in making their decisions. After 10 pages of posts on this thread why do you have such an issue with me simply saying I am disappointed?

I walked through a half empty one on my April cruise on the Jewel. Formal night, no smoking. They ended up moving one table into the sports bar and opened the slot machines next to the sports bar for smoking that night. Is this normal? probably not, but I did see it.

To be fair, it's really awesome to have the room without people actively smoking in it. HOWEVER, the room still seriously stinks. When we sail a ship that is new to us, I usually try to hit the casino before sailaway for some photos. It's empty and there aren't people smoking actively in there.

 

The casino will have been closed for 1/2 day at that point. I'm not sure when exactly they close on the last night of the cruise but I'll assume it's by about 4am or so. This is probably between 3-4pm the next day.

 

That's almost a full 12hrs of smokefree air, cleaning the room, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing, the air circulating freely... you get the picture.

 

The stench of cigs will still almost knock you over dead in there. It is quite foul for a nonsmoker. I take my photos very quickly and bolt.

I had to laugh on a recent cruise on Oasis, My wife and I smoked in the smoking areas outside on decks 15 & 16 and was amazed at the amount of people walking through with towels round their faces and the look of disgust on their faces to the people who were smoking.

 

Even having designated smoking areas on a ship seems to disappoint a lot of people, even though they have a 95% smoke free ship. These people could have easily walked around the smoking area without making them go out of their way.

 

Some people really need to get a grip.

It's not really paranoia -- many people look "down" on smokers. Smoking is becoming a socially unacceptable activity and smokers will have the deal with that.

There are countries where smoking is actually acceptable. Smokers have to deal with this too. :p

 

I am rather a happy smoker than a miserable non-smoker being paranoid about whiffs, e-cigs with a red tip, sniff policing everything etc

They give us a section to smoke in that can easily be walked around but still they have to express their displeasure. On a recent Explorer cruise I was in the cigar lounge when this soccer mom type stuck her head in and said, "It stinks in here!" Nobody asked her to come in there. There was no question that it was a cigar lounge. She just had to make the comment. All I want is a place inside, where I can enjoy my cigar in peace and not bother anyone and certainly not be harassed by non-smokers. Is it too much to ask? Now, for the second time, can we please put this topic to rest? That is after all the non-smokers have their "go" at me!

Not always, but occasionally this happens because of poor signage. Someone may unknowingly walk into a smoking area. They may not be curling up their faces AT YOU, but at the smoke. Smoke is quite offensive smelling to many nonsmokers.

 

I always go back to comparing a fart to cig smoke. Most times you're cool with your own brand... it's when you have to smell someone else's that you get irritated.

 

Also, neither a fart nor smoke understand to just stay in one place. Sometimes smoking areas are just poorly placed. The smell wanders off to places it isn't welcome. Once I was on the deck about 50' from the smoking area and the winds were just right and blew the smoke straight to me. It wasn't fun. I'd worked hard to find those chairs and then it was smelly.

 

I don't blame the smokers for that, but the properties of smoke. If smokers could smoke with controlled smoke that stayed where it should, I think 99% of nonsmoker's problems would be invalid.

 

Sadly, you can't make smoke obey.
