Just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't make it a dumb idea. And who cares how long some of these performers have been around, which some of them are current artists. If it's someone you want to see then go see them, if it's not then don't go see them.

I love concerts and I would consider with the right artist. I don't know that it would be a deciding factor for me in choosing my cruise, but if the ship/itinerary/artist/date happened to line up, I would possibly take advantage.

Wow! I am an adult going with my adult daughter, so should I demand that the club you dump your kid in so you don't have to deal with them is shut down too? Or perhaps since I can't drink I should demand that all bars are shut down to the alcoholic crowd? Of course there is also the unaccompanied teenagers running around acting up with no parental supervision, so should I request a ban on all teenagers? It's not complifrickencated! If you don't like the acts, don't reserve them! But saying they are stupid, and suggesting to get rid of something because "It doesn't suit you" is why this country is so screwed up! All the selfishness on this board is astonishing! FYI I am booking a cruise just for an act, and this performer has several current hit albums and has been a very big deal as of late. He drew in 22,000 fans at the Boston Hatch-shell recently alone! The concourse was full, and people were standing around the place just to get a glimpse! County fairs my foot! Perhaps some people need to stop living in 1964!;)

I am in favor of this change but as for the if you don't want to go nobody is twisting your arm comment, do you know what other options there are if you don't go?

Part of this is good. The rest is condescending selfishness. You like this change, which I don't blame you. But this change is getting rid of things others like for a thing you like. You call them selfish for wanting to keep what they like at the expense of what you like. But you are guilty of the same thing.

 

I personally don't mind the change but I understand why others would not like it. Especially the ones who already had their cruise booked and now it has changed.

 

In the future as long as when the cruise comes out it states which type it is, I will have no sympathy for the them. Unless this goes fleetwide on all sailings.

Just another reason for CCL to unbundle the cruise pricing. I am not interested in seeing musical acts on a cruise, save for a select few that I could probably count on one hand and who will likely never appear on their list of acts. Some people will love this and the sailings with the performers will probably sell out quickly, so it will probably work out for them. I just hope they don't increase the cruise fare for everyone, even if 2/3 of the pax on the cruise have no interest in the musical act for that sailing. But at least they are getting somewhat innovative. Pretty soon they will start charging to go see the comedian shows.....maybe I shouldn't give them any more ideas....

I disagree. Carnival has worn out the Broadway shows concept. I think they are on the right track by focusing on music; however, the artists being offered don't appeal to me for the most part. I also don't like the fact that since the ships will be staying in port until 1 AM that much of the ship will be shut down. That means the casino and shops will be closed that night. I will likely avoid these cruises for that very reason. Yawn.

 

I like the fact that they are also changing their free live music offerings along with the for-a-fee concerts.

 

You have a point there. That would be a huge downside. When the boat is parked, no casino, no gift shop, etc. I also happen to like sailaways in the daytime and during the summer, like to have dinner while watching sunset while the ship is moving. Staying in port until 1 am is not good. Not to mention lots of people will get wasted in port and likely get into trouble and miss the ship for sailaway. Will they do anytime dining for everyone on those evenings as well, as they do on nights the ship stays in port late on other sailings? I would never expect these artist acts to be free but I hope they do not tailor the entire cruise experience around the concerts.

A brand new act has just been added to the line up - The Captain and Tennile, however they will now have to appear separately and on two different ships! :rolleyes: ;) :D

WOW, hadn't thought about the fact that since the ship will stay in port on the "Concert Evenings", everything else will be pretty much shut down. That will effectively KILL one evening of the cruise, unless you spend the extra bucks to see that concert. BUMMER!

While this program makes for great press and hopefully will be successful for them, it's really only a small percentage of their sailings that will have these shows. Where does that leave entertainment on the rest of the ships and the rest of the sailings?

 

Buried in the press release was a small section about "enhanced" cover bands that will be more "choreographed." For me at least, that's been my main issue with Carnival recently - the musicians are fed a corporate set list and pre-recorded background they have to use. No improvs, limited song choice, and bored looking musicians playing the same stuff over and over. A guy with a guitar and recorded backtracks is basically glorified karaoke.

 

I do hope this is a step in the right direction, though, and the Carnival will step up the live entertainment on the other ships as well. I'll experience the dreaded Playlist Production shows in a few weeks for the first time and will reserve judgment until I see them but know I'll miss having a live band with the show.

I must have missed something in reading the press release twice. I didn't see anywhere where the ships would still be in port at 1 am. It just said that the concert would be held "While" the ships are in port. If that's the case, the concert could be held at 5 pm. Maybe I missed it but I read it twice and never saw 1 am mentioned once. And the release said the tickets would cost $20-40, not just $20.

 

As far as going to the concerts, probably not. We are constantly getting free tickets to acts appearing at our nearby casino and have never used them yet.

100 % YES. So much so in the future I would a cruise just to see certain artists ( Jimmy Buffett , hint-hint !!) . We were already booked on the Ectasy in April 2014 and bought our tickets for REO. Great value, and excited to be part of something brand new and to see how the this new program turns out .

Looked at the concert cruises on the West Coast. They start $10 more than the other cruises at the same time. So basically the same cost.

 

But they are in Catalina until 1am. Catalina is CE night. Wonder how that will all play out.

 

Will the bands stay onboard the whole cruise? In Cozumel it's easy to leave via the dock. Catalina is a tender port. Wonder if the ship will return to Long Beach or a special boat will transport them back to the mainland? Catalina is 22 miles from Long Beach, it's in county cruising at it's finest.

Logistically they can return to Long Beach as Ensenada is only 200miles south of LA.

 

Only flying in and out for the shows. Not cruising as passengers. They can take an air shuttle back to Long beach from Catalina.

Will the ship’s departure from the ports change on concert nights?

 

On concert nights, the ship will set sail at 1:00AM. Guests will be allowed to enjoy the extended hours in the ports of Cozumel and Nassau, however due to the fact that Catalina is a tender port and tender operations are not available at night, guests must return to the ship as posted onboard well before 1:00AM.

That would be nice however the idea here is to make more money that is probably the intent of the concert series, any cruise line will only make a change if it makes more $$$$ for the cruise line .If CCL invests more money for better entertainment, which is included in the cruise rate, on the ships is not going to generate revue for the line.

When we do go to a show on a cruise, we go to the casino after. For us, this is a take away. This is not a deal breaker, but having the option of a few hours a certain night in the casino at decent hours has been eliminated. Now if CCL can work something out with Nassau and Cozumel to open their casinos at a decent hour, that would be a plus to us.

The words "enhanced and " choreographed" concern me a little because I don't think Carnival will spend more money on better entertainment on the ships that are included in the cruise rate when they took it way in the first place ,but like you said I'll wait until I cruise this April until I make a judgment .

I thought I saw a post where John Heald said on Facebook that the casino will be open in Nassau but not Cozumel. I thought I read that on here.

 

I get the gripe with the casino not being open, but there must be other things to do. I know, because I don't go into the casino often and I'm usually up @ 1am and later. Not always in my cabin either. And like I said before, this leaving the port late stuff isn't new. I know we left Nassau @ 1am last year. Royal Caribbean pulled out @ 12:30. This couldn't have been the first or last time that happened. Everyone managed.
