Grand E321, 2-person cabin, bed against aft wall (in case someone wants to start an even more finely-grained list!). August 2003.

Crown R747, 2-person cabin, bed against window (upgraded out of it at last minute but caught of glimpse of the interior when fetching my misdirected luggage). July 2007.

Dawn C309, 2-person cabin, bed against forward wall. March 2008.

Oops... Never answered the question.... The beds were on the wall

Thanks Pat!

I have that cabin on the Crown for a 28 day Tahiti cruise.

I heard the view was not obstructed at all and even saw a picture of the "view" on that web page that someone on here put together.

A week from today we'll be in quad room (E501) on the Golden Princess & will post it's configuration. Being a quad it will most likely be against the window & hopefully the upper bunks will be recessed into the ceiling and not protruding from the side walls. :(

I think you may be disappointed. As you see in my post above E424 bunks were on the wall. :(

I found some pictures of the different set-ups. Just to give Sasha's Mom a better idea with what we mean by; against the wall-under window, etcetera maybe we can specify set-up 1-2 or 3.

Just a thought.

Eileen...thanks for starting this informative thread & agree that adding the upper bunk info would also be helpful. :

Hi Frank,

Really appreciate everyone's input. I'm so happy I thought of something useful to others on these boards. I've been helped so much since I joined years ago.

Have a wonderful cruise.

Eileen

The reason I'm asking for the date of the sailing is because when I started this pursuit I called Princess. Love Princess cruises, but hate the fact that they can't answer questions like we are discussing here.

I said they need to update their website and at least show how the cabins are really configured. I realize they aren 't going to do what Theo has done for us. All she could tell me is that sometimes they reconfigure the cabin during dry dock and they wouldn't want to have to change their site when that happens. Don't know if this is true, but apparently she had a call from someone after returning from their cruise, who always booked the same cabin and were furious that "their" cabin had changed.

Caribbean Princess E705, E707 2/2014 - Wall twin beds, actually one against the wall and one in the middle of the room with the headboard against the wall

Note, for those considering a quad cabin, our family of four booked two obstructed cabins for just a bit more than the price of a quad. Since Princess does not discount much for the third and fourth passengers (unlike Carnival and HAL) this was a good solution.

Here is a photo of my parents' obstructed ocean view room on the Star Princess. They were in stateroom E307. They just sailed to Hawaii on 2/18, so I would say this is pretty current :) This room is set up more like a balcony room that an ocean view with the bed being against the wall, rather than under the window.

Thank you for such a quick response. I'm sure everyone will find this so helpful. As I mentioned' date=' you were the inspiration for this thresd:):):)[/quote']

Well, thanks for recognizing me as the inspiration, but you are the awesome person who has taken this on so thank you for doing this.

A thought just came to mind. Why is this an "Obstructed Oceanview Cabin" thing? Wouldn't these bed options apply to regular Oceanview cabins as well?

Presumably any room with capability of 3 or 4 people via bunk beds is going to have the bed in front of the window configuration...isn't it?

I have only seen the pull out of the ceiling bunk beds in the past. Is it a certain ship designs that has the wall bunk beds or just certain rooms on ships that in other rooms have the ceiling bunk beds? Maybe rooms without enough clearance in the ceiling for the ceiling bunk beds.

Sasha's Mom,

Thanks for taking on this task.

It will be very helpful.

Not sure where you're planning to put it....you probably already have something in mind.....but, I just recently made our Roll Call a web page on Shutterfly. No charge for the service. It was very easy and easy to keep updated. If you want, you can take a look at it...the link is down in my signature.

Again, thanks for doing this!

They have these pull down bunks from the side wall on other ships. I remember one on the Emerald, E512 (OV-OB) where my DD and SIL kept hitting their head, since those cabins weren't quite as wide as these sideways Royal cabins. But I notice the Princess website doesn't note whether the uppers come out of the ceiling or out of the sidewalls. Could be a nasty surprise.

Maybe they should issue soft helmets in those cabins which we'll probably soon experience in the Golden's E501 cabin. ;)

Being around South America & possibly having some rough seas my wife wanted a lower deck midship location to reduce the motion for her 'mal de mer' tendency.

I'm happy to do it. I will have to spend some time organizing the list' date=' hopefully tomorrow. Can you give me the link please. I removed signatures from what I see a long time ago. Thanks for the suggestion.[/quote']

Sure... here's the link

https://crownprincesssouthpacific2014.shutterfly.com/

You would be able to make a "tab" for each ship.

Really user-friendly

Here's One

The Golden, Emerald E424 a cabin for up to 4. The bunks were on the wall not from the ceiling. Bunks sticking out from the wall, NOT GOOD, very obstructive & obtrusive. And, I could not imagine how 4 people would fit (squeeze) in such a small cabin.

Is this for the Golden and the Emerald ships, with the same cabin number? Or is it the Golden E424 (Emerald Deck)?

Thanks.

Here is some info for you about the different ships.

The following ships are pretty well identical as far as cabin layouts are concerned;

Golden-Grand-Star

Crown-Emerald-Ruby

Diamond-Sapphire

Coral-Island

Dawn-Sea-Sun

Ocean-Pacific

Royal-Regal (have to wait for that one to be sure)

Caribbean (almost the same as Crown etcetera)

I know there are slight differences in the common areas.
