Everything.. ESCAPE (live 29 Oct 2015!)

Recommended Posts

can anyone say what the outlet situation is in the room? Are there any USB charging ports? Does the bathroom have a US plug or only Euro style plugs?

We had USB's in the lights on each side of the bed plus 3 US plugs on the desk. I don't recall the bathroom, but I don't remember any Euro plugs.

Rumors only but apparently they A> were hard to keep properly clean and B> possible complaints that they took up too much room in a limited space.

With one exception. The leg shaving bar in the shower is gone. Not sure why they decided not to include it on ESCAPE?

Can credits for the slot machines be purchased using both cash and the onboard account? Do the slot machines provide a cash out receipt when you are done playing or is everything handled through the onboard account?

Yes to all above. You can use your own US cash in the slot machines or take cash advances charged to your room directly at the machine. That way you can pay for it on your credit card bill (or however you pay off your onboard account at the end of the cruise). There is a 3% credit card fee for room advances unless you have attained the casino status of "Gold or VIP", then it is free.

The slot machines do have an updated program on the Escape which allows you to get the money left in the machine when you wish to leave in two ways. If you hit the button to cash out BEFORE you remove your room key or players card, it will print you a ticket for the amount that you can use to play another machine or cash out at the ticket redemption machines next to the cashier booth. But if you remove your room card/players card first, then it automatically adds the remaining money to your players account and the next machine you want to play at you have to log in and have it download money from that account to the machine. This part of it is like Princess, Holland America, etc. have had for a long time.

Dam* it! I was unreasonably happy they thought to include it on the Getaway. Used it every day. Sure it's not NECESSARY, but I'll miss that thoughtful touch.

Sorry I called it by what it is (the fee to cover what NCL is charged by the credit card companies) and not NCL's politically correct term "Convenience Fee".

If your account is in credit there is no CC fee it then becomes a fee to cover a non existent charge.

If your account is entirely set up in cash, you are still charged this fee. It isn't a credit card fee. It's a fee paid to NCL for the convenience of withdrawing cash from your shipboard account.

The main reason that started it was to avoid abuse. CC posts started a run on cash from the casino from non gamblers. That would get 1000s just for the points on their credit cards. Take the cash home and pay off the balance. This was a huge problem with the old NCL card where you got 4 points for every dollar spent with NCL.

Got a survey from NCL about my cruise on the Escape. I've just completed it and wondered if anyone else has done the survey?

I got one after the TA cruise. I also got one after either my Epic or Getaway cruises, can't remember which.

I did tell them we didn't like that the lunch hours were limited (12pm-1:30pm) at Food Republic & Pincho Tapas -- the window was so short it took real planning to be able to eat there for lunch. Also, due to posted hours or crowding, if you weren't careful, you would be forced to eat at the Buffet or O' Sheehan's when you really had other ideas -- kind of killing the freestyle concept. But, I have to say, it wasn't so much of an issue that we will never get over it or that it ruined our vacation -- I mean hey, it's vacation! [emoji3]

Could anyone who has returned from an Escape cruise comment on the overnight accumulation of soot on the aft-facing balconies?

Deck 10, suite 10914....which was about 1/3 of the aft face on deck 10.

Soot = nada. zero. zilch. missing in action.

Yes. We had soot on our day facing balcony some mornings. This also happened last year on the Breakaway. Not a lot, but enough that we learned to wipe down our loungers before laying on them in the morning.

Hi texangal,

No survey here.

Maybe they Don't want to know?

To be honest, I spent too much time at Cust. Serv. daily.....

Trying to resolve issues. UDP, etc.

And this is the first cruise where we Never got a Towel animal

on our bed.

Our Cabin steward was very timid. He didn't seem to want to engage anyone.

Funny thing I found one of the "eyes" you know those Dots, that they put on the towel animals in our bathroom. So I KNOW he must have done some, somewhere.....but never in Our room. Odd.

Seemed less storage in our balcony cabin than in other NCL ships weve been on. I did like the Refrig thou. You could actually put some of your own water bottles in there.

I keep remembering things as I read others reviews.......

Just off the Escape on an aft balcony. We had no complains and a great time!!! Only place we had problems getting in to eat was Le Bistro. But there was 10 of us. We did get in when we did 4 tho.

We did have some soot on our balcony but not enough to complain about. We were on 9. We do like some drawers in the cabin and there were none. Need a junk drawer just like at home!!,

Going back in Feb in same cabin!!!

We too are just off the Escape. We had a fabulous time and we can not convey how important " the vibe " was towards our enjoyment. There were things I wish were different but honestly they were overcome by truly attentive NCL staff and a great ship.
