Everything.. ESCAPE (live 29 Oct 2015!)

Recommended Posts

I rang NCL Europe to book the 2 nighter from Hamburg & the 1 nighter from Southampton yesterday & the agent was very surprised I was thinking of taking children.

I asked if it was because he thought it would be a 'booze cruise' & he replied probably yes. He said he'd had quite a few bookings, mainly from Germans happy to have a new ship sailing from Hamburg, & no-one was taking children.

Has anyone been on a 2/3 nighter before? Are they that bad for people getting really drunk?

Thanks,

Michelle.:)

We're taking our son, but I have to say that I'm not expecting many kids onboard.

One thing about this trip is that it will be during school half term in the UK, which hasn't been the case lately for these short cruises in Europe. I see it as a good opportunity for our son to see the new ship. We are going fully prepared to have to entertain him ourselves though.

I imagine the one night CTN will be very much a boozy trip for many. I certainly drank more on the one night on the Getaway than I ever have in a day on a ship. If you just have the one night then I think there is more of a temptation to really go for it.

Still, at least our kids will have at least one other family onboard. I wouldn't expect too many more, but you do never know with it being half term.

I just booked the three night Hamburg-Southampton, and noticed that on my confirmation it says this for the third day:

SHIP ARRIVES AND OVERNIGHTS IN SOUTHAMPTON (LONDON), GREAT BRITAIN

I'd be very surprised if this was the case, but it's worth noting. The website still says the ship leaves at 5pm. Given that this is also being sold as a one night CTN I can't believe they won't go for a sail around the channel for a few hours.

Welcome aboard. We may get lucky that that NCL will do their new production shows (whatever they may turn out to be) on the mini-cruises. They did so for Getaway which was a pleasant surprise.

I'm pretty sure NCL wants to get out into international waters to save us the tax and open the casino and duty free shopping. :p

*Edit: Correction from Keith that they will charge EU Vat on the Hamburg to Southampton 2-Day leg of the journey

I don't think we will be saving any tax. It's all EU so I think it will be charged anyway. On the third day it will be a UK to UK so the tax will be charged all the time and will be at 20%. I'm not sure about the first two days though. I assume we will pay German VAT at whatever rate that is.

I don't think the duty free opened on the UK leg on the Getaway, but yes they will want to get the casino open I'm sure.

Thanks for the correction Keith. I forgot about the EU VAT for the Hamburg to Southampton leg. :(

I want an aft cabin on Escape. Can anyone guess which decks might have the bigger balcony? I know on BA and GA it's 9.

REALLY hard to tell. 😳

The deck plans for the Escape are different for the aft penthouses - compared to the BA and GA. The balcony spaces are at least shaped differently and might even be smaller - compared to the BA/GA.

We had the same problem picking our cabin on the BA. It was in early construction with nothing but the deck plans for information. 😁

We went with 9 - making some educated guesses and it did turn out to be the best!! But....when you've got nothing to compare it to - it can be tough.

For the Escape we went with deck 9 - again. Going with the general rule that the balconies tend to get smaller the higher you go because of the slant of the aft.

Still anxiously searching for any info on the Escape aft penthouses - and how they are similar/different to the BA/GA. 😜

So when can expect some news on escape ??:)

Good question!!

According to our PCC - they still don't have an brochures or information to provide. 😳

She's not sure when they are going to get the brochures. Just keeps saying "soon". 😑

At least I can see my cabin, if I look closely. Will maybe move aft when I see pictures.

Well I was hoping to get on the Getaway but the dates weren't good this year and we got married and went on a honeymoon cruise.... So next year, definitely hoping to join the Escape 2 night cruise from Hamburg as thinking of combining that with a few days in Berlin.

i really want to get that new ship small and vibe as sailed on the Epic 2 months after her maiden voyage so here's hoping! :)

Let's choose some new water slides.. http://www.whitewaterwest.com/

Which ones would you like to see on Escape? ;)

Have often thought a lazy river would be the ideal way to spend a sea day on deck. Their Extreme River looks fun, but, might be tough to hold onto my frozen concoction! The Aqua Loop looks like fun, too!
