What do your kids do at nighttime?

We're taking our first cruise with our kids. They will be 7, 8, and 10 years old. For those of you with kids close to those ages, what did they like to do after dinner?

My hubby and I like to watch the shows or have a few drinks. I don't know what there is for kids to do after dinner except for Camp Carnival. It is still open then, right?

Our kids liked the shows and my youngest really liked going to one of the Night Owl parties - this gave us a nice "date night" so we could go be grown ups for a bit.

Next cruise: Carnival Breeze June 2014

What is this?

Once maybe twice a cruise there is a late night party in Camp Carnival. Party ends at 3am. Whew....our 9 yr old outlasted us last spring break (2013). This year they cancelled the party due to lack of interest.

I believe it's a $30 charge for the party vs the typical $5 or $6 an hour.

Have fun!!!

Our two 9 year olds went to camp until it closed most nights. Two of the nights they stayed for the Night Owl party (ended at 1:00 AM and I was passed out, dh had to go get them). We also watched a movie on the big screen one night (Hotel Transylvania on Halloween).

When we were on the Breeze every night we went to the thrill theater then Cherry on Top. Then we would walk around. Mine were tired so early from all of the sun, swimming and adventures! (Ages 8 & 11)

Last year my kids hung out at camp at night. Even by midnight one time, neither was was happy to be picked up. They also were fine winding down with their tablets or word search books in the cabin. We ordered room service 2 nights. There's the big screen, ice cream on the lido deck, they can go to the shows with you, etc. Lots for them to do either way.

We hang out, go to family comedy show, variety shows, play ping pong, watch outdoor movies, hang out in hot tubs. Seems like there is always SOMETHING to do. Then turn in about 10 - 10:30 and bed by 11. My kids (9&11) don't do the camp carnival. And that's cool with us. It's not a nightlife holiday for us.

My kids have never done the camp, mostly because they are separate age groups and wouldn't go alone. They do go to shows with us but they definitely got bored at night. All of the comedy shows after a certain time were adult only (I want to say 9 or 10 pm) and since we watched the main show, there was nothing for them to do after it. They are night owls (Guess I should have got them to that party). Karaoke also switched to adult only so they couldn't watch that either and they would certainly enjoy watching their Mom sing. All that being said they spent way too much time and money in the arcade.

They come to the show with us, then we stroll the ship, and then up having some pizza just before we retire. The balcony comes in handy after you put them down.

Up until my oldest was 11 and youngest was 7 they did camp carnival after dinner until 10pm pretty much every night. Now this last cruise they were 13 and 9 and they wanted to hang out with us (family comedy clubs and the shows).

Depended what was going on.

My 10 year old did Night Owls one night.

I know one night we watched a movie with him.

He went to a show with us another night.

I think one night he wasn't feeling well and went to the room to watch non stop Dragonball Z on the TV LOL. He did that two nights actually. I checked in on him. He was asleep early. I think our last cruise wore him out faster.

It depends on your kids. My kids did not like Camp Carnival. After dinner they preferred to go to the show with us.

What time does the show usually start?

My kids don't really like to stay up late and we'll be sailing from our current time zone. I think they're going to be pretty tired for all of the activities/sun/pool during the day, but nevertheless.... I'm just a little worried that they might be bored after dinner unless we go to the show.

We're not "nightlife people", but I don't want to go straight from dinner to the cabin.

Is there someplace to get dessert? We're going to be on the Miracle.

I wish they had the big screen TV on this ship. They don't, right? A nighttime movie would be fun.

The Camps have an activity every night usually at 8:15pm. So, keep that in mind when booking a dinner time. The late seating will interfere with the main Camp activities. And if you book the late night parties, I remember one of them dropped the kids off at your cabin after and another required you to pick them up at the camp.

My youngest has always gone to Camp Carnival after dinner. He's on his own, basically. He's about to be 16 and will still go to Club 02. He checks in with us periodically but ever since he was a young kid he has loved Camp Carnival. I've had older kids who didn't like it, they hung together and then came back to the cabin and ordered room service.

As a person who does not cruise with kids that age , I just wanted to say THANK YOU! Just the fact that you are thinking ahead and trying to account for your children while still being able to enjoy some adult time is refreshing. You would not believe how many parents seem to think the ship is a babysitter and just let children of that age wander around at all hours. Again thanks and I hope you and your kids have a great cruise!
