How much Tip should I give for Room Service

On our recent cruise the casino & PSD ran short of dollar bills & drastically limited how many they'd give so try to get them early. I might bring a roll of dollar coins for our next cruise.

You bring the dollar coins if you like.

I brought on a couple of rolls of the gold presidential dollar coins a few cruises back and the staff loved them. I usually just supplemented my tip with one (or more) of them and they were quite intrigued. I saw several showing them off to other staff members and on the last evening I asked my favorite bartender which she had rather have and she said the presidential coins.

They can easily exchange any currency at their onboard bank if they desire.

The tip for room service is included in the auto tip.

Below is the Princess statement on gratuities. Can you point out the place where it addresses Room Service, an optional choice for passengers?

"To simplify the tipping process for our passengers, a discretionary gratuity of $12 per person for mini-suites and suites, and $11.50 per passenger in all other staterooms per day (including children) will be automatically added to your shipboard account on a daily basis. This gratuity will be shared amongst those staff who help provide and support your cruise experience, including all waitstaff, stateroom stewards, buffet stewards, and housekeeping staff across the fleet. For your convenience, this gratuity can be pre-paid before you sail by calling 1-800 PRINCESS and referencing Special Services item number 0597. Pre-paid gratuities may be added up to 6 days prior to your departure.

A 15% gratuity is added to bar charges and dining room wine accounts. This is shared amongst the beverage staff and their support staff. We know you will find these services onboard exemplary.

Casino dealers and Lotus Spa® personnel do not share in these gratuities, as not all passengers utilize these services."

I would think Room Service would fall in with Casino Dealers and Lotus Spa personnel since not all passengers utilize Room Service.

That is my interpretation and I will continue to tip for Room Service since to me it is an extra, optional service that I use.

They are covered under wait staff, and that is what they, and passenger services have told me.

I don't understand why Room Service would be supported by all passengers through the daily auto tip when it is utilized by only a few passengers.

It seems Princess needs to add that clarification to their explanation for the daily hotel charge.

We always tip room service when they deliver, if they get double tips then so be it. They work hard and deserve it.

I agree with this completely!

When I read the Princess blurb I don't interpret it as saying room service folks are included.

They will most likely be part of the pool of waiters and room stewards just having extra duties shared out, there may be a few dedicated in the room service galley for the overnight shifts, bet they all awap around over time.

Not everyone eats in the buffet, but buffet staff are included. Not everyone eats pizza, but the pizza staff are included. All passengers eat, so everyone is utilizing dining staff of some sort.

I've never ordered room service, but if I did, I'd probably tip anyway, because I'd appreciate being able to have the food delivered to my room rather than having to go get it. It's unclear in the Princess policy whether this tipping is necessary or not, but it's still a nice thing to do.

Same here. I can't imagine having my breakfast delivered each day and not tipping. Having breakfast in my stateroom or on my balcony every day is a highlight of my cruise, and I show my appreciation with a tip.

We always tip $2-$5 for room service, depending on the amount we order. Coffee, juice and rolls in the morning get $2-$3. Larger orders get a few more dollars. On our last cruise they were very prompt.
