Colo Cruiser Posted May 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2014 Too much food and lots of breakfast fish. The dinner is better.
Whimsy Posted May 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2014 We have done it 3 or 4 times. Very good and there is plenty for 4 people. There is an assortment of fruit, pastries, quiche, bagels and salmon with onions, capers, etc. Juice and champagne too. The ultimate balcony dinner is wonderful too! Aussie Gal Posted May 19, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) We did it for our 50th Wedding Anniversary back in April when we were on the Ocean Princess. We enjoyed it as it was our Anniversary but we wouldn't order it again, because we weren't impressed with the cold quiches and there were too many pastries. We loved the smoked salmon and the champagne which is really what you are paying for. So if I were to do something similar again, I would order the bottle of champagne and order a normal breakfast from room service. That way you are getting in my opinion the best of both worlds and also the breakfast that you prefer. It certainly wasn't set up to the degree that I have read that the Evening Balcony dinner is organized with a special table cloth etc. We did have good napkins but you also receive those with room service. sherryf Posted May 19, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2014 DW and I are considering doing the UBB on our upcoming Alaska cruise. /QUOTE] We did it in Alaska in 2009 while on our Honeymoon. It was a gift from a good friend. It's something we might not have chosen ourselves, but we didn enjoy it. We were VERY lucky to have beautiful weather for it. Not all Alaskan cruisers are so lucky. Depending on the weather during your cruise, it may or may not be a good option. Of course, if the weather is bad, you can eat it inside, but that might not be as enjoyable. morriscats Posted May 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2014 We have done this several times. We don't like the fish so we substitute omlets and bacon. Once I got eggs benedict. Hopefully they still allow substitutions.
Rare abbydancer2003 Posted May 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2014 We did it once on a California Coastal on the Island Princess. They basically dropped everything off. A lot of food and it was too cold to eat on the balcony. I don't think I'd do it again. I'd do the dinner again with friends.
rollingstone Posted May 19, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 19, 2014 You are basically paying for the split of champagne. The rest consists of what you can get at the buffet. When this breakfast first started, it included crab legs and berries in 1/2 cantaloupe. We were so impressed that we pre ordered 2 for our next cruise. When we saw what they had changed it to, we canceled the remaining breakfast. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Rare geoherb Posted May 19, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 19, 2014 We've done it twice but never paid to get it. The first time was a gift from a friend in honor of our wedding. The second one was another gift. I enjoyed both and might even splurge for it on another cruise. We always saved the champagne and some of the pastries for later in the day. ginabab Posted May 20, 2014 #14 Share Posted May 20, 2014 Hi, I think it's worth trying. We really had fun on the balcony while sailing with all the food set out outside by someone other than us. Next time I would ask to leave some of the included treats out of the mix.
Rare Woobstr112G Posted May 20, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 20, 2014 Tried it once and while good, was way too much food. Since we've been fortunate enough to book suites for our last several cruises, I enjoy the Sabatini's breakfast much more that I enjoyed the UBB.....:):):) Bob
MarKay525 Posted May 20, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) DW and I are considering doing the UBB on our upcoming Alaska cruise. Anyone know what it costs? And is it worth it? Hello fellow Hoosier - my early days were spent near (back then bucolic) Indianapolis. Now I barely recognize the city when I go home. Thanks so much for asking this - and thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences. I've added several comments to my Cruising Notes and adjusted my budget based on what I've learned. Enjoy Alaska - it's on our Retirement Bucket List. Kay Edited May 20, 2014 by MarKay525
