Just back from Quest

I think perhaps some people are taking my post out of context. I never said at any time that I went hungry or was short of food and the crew were mostly fantastic. I was simply expressing the fact that I found certain things not up to the standard we were expecting from azamara considering that it is not a cheap cruise line. I will think twice before putting any more posts on this board as some of the replies, I think, are uncalled for.

 

Another small gripe is the glass wear. This is equivalent to the standard you would receive in a local pub. At lunch red wine is served in exactly the same glass as white wine. When we asked if we could have the nicer wine glasses we were told that they are only used if you PURCHASE wine.

 

I agree 100% on the glassware. The special restaurants use nicer stemware at least.

 

If you think this group is tough, I dare say don't venture to the other "luxury" line boards where any criticism of that brand is...well..perhaps best left unsaid.

I never received nibbles on Journey - didn't know they were an option. I didn't find the drink service particularly good especially at the pool. I think OP makes a good point and should not be lambasted by loyalists. If Azamara is a self titled,luxury line they should live up to their name.

I had great service msot days at pool- but i did put in wriitng we needed more attention on deck 11 and msot days that was better until 3 pm when shift changes.

I think this thread shows that all of our experiences differ. When in the Looking Glass playing trivia we were always given nibbles with our drinks. Quite honestly though I didn't want the extra calories but my team mates enjoyed them.

Well this has been quite an interesting post for me to read. I can't say I've ever been offered nibbles with drinks on the Quest or Journey. Or on X or RCI, though there are nuts laid out on some on the bars in some of the X ship lounges, but that's not the same as being served them with your drink. Maybe I've never paid attention? Personally I'm with Hazel--I don't really care for snacks with drinks and as such I've never requested them or missed them if they don't show up. But is it considered usual and customary to serve them (in which case Azamara would be remiss not to)?

From my experience it does seem to depend upon venue and indeed the bar server. We'd have evening drinks in Looking Glass on Journey and always had nibbles, whether it was a small jar of nuts/dried snacks or the Feta, olives and peanut selection (bar server Dale was always quick to put them out). This has also been my experience at the Discovery Lounge. Not so much at the Sunset or Pool Bars. If there has been any gastro-intestinal illness this has affected the dishing out of nibbles too.

I had a wonderful cruise on Quest last week, but can confirm OP's remarks are correct. The difference from our last cruise on the Journey was noticeable. The pool bar crew seemed to lack that little last touch in every aspect. Not that the service was bad, but it didn't have that little extra.

We asked the bartender for some peanuts and got the "wrong" answer, as he told us that there was not any peanuts,- the ship was emty for peanuts. I met Jonathan, the Food and beveraage Manager shorly after, and asked him: " Have you really run out of peanuts??" He looked at me and thought I was pulling his leg. He imediately wanted the whole story and got it. One minute later he returned to my table with a jar of peanuts and said: "I have to go and sack someone", - I don't know if he was ironic or boiling mad:cool:

I am a great fan of Quest, but do agree with you 100% on the glassware. Wine does taste different depending on the size, shape and kind of glass, that is why there are so many choices in glassware. I am also disappointed that the red and white wine glasses are the same ( and not very good), although I do understand there is a cost factor here. As another poster stated, the wine glasses used in the Specialty Restaurants are much improved over the standard, and provide a more enjoyable drinking experience.

On Quest a couple of weeks ago we only visited Windows once, for a pre-dinner drink, and nibbles (cheese, olives etc) were brought to our table without requesting them. We also had cashew nuts in the casino bar on a few occasions.

 

I agree that bar service on deck wasn't much in evidence, but then we tended to use the loungers on deck 11. They did bring glasses of iced water up there quite frequently though.

We were on the Quest at the end of June, Athens to Venice, and almost every evening were offered or just given nibbles in the bar. Also, my friend and I drank red wine and the I'm sure that the table glasses were exchanged for red wine glasses for us at the lunchtime buffet, as they definitely were for the evening meal in the mdr, with the original glasses used for white wine for my wife and her friend.

 

When we dined in Prime C, the glassware appeared to be superior and seemed to make the wine taste better. Perhaps it was just the occasion!

 

We are back on the Quest next month and will take more notice of these things, but I would agree that the waiter service could sometimes be a little slow, even when the bars were quiet.
