When we got to our room on last cruise, there was stuff in bathroom, they had body wash and shampoo on in the shower so you didn't have to bring it , well, wife brought her's, is there stuff like that on this ship ??

Well, if you wife is anything like me, she'll want to bring her own shampoo and conditioner....I hate the stuff they put in the dispensers. ;-)

Yes, she brings all of her "crap" as i stated ... lol :D Me, it doesn't matter ....

Long as they have coffee I'm good ....

Last cruise was on carnival, there was all kinds of stuff in room, lotions, floss, razors, other crap also that women like ..

Find something missing in the bath - ask your cabin steward ?

In the haste to make your cabin up between cruises something might have been missed just ask !

Usually these are the commercial samples put out by the companies trying to promote their goods.

In the showers you should find shampoo and a body wash lotion - if empty ask to refill it.

Use as much as you like - the cruise line gets it in 55 gallon barrels and don't expect miracles - LOL !

Some family of ours cruises on ncl from boston, they say the casino is pretty "tight" ... true/false ??? when we sailed on our previous cruise, we never seen any big winners ... we usually just play a little slots .. and that stupid game where you sorta shoot the quarters up and the arms sweep back and forth pushing quarters off the ledges ... we spent almost 50.00 to win that t-shirt .... lol .... :)

I'm sure we will have fun, but like i have said before, this will be only our second cruise, but, i believe that there will be a review by mitsugirly(kim)

She is in charge of our meet and greet, and there is quit a few of seasoned cruisers on this cruise .. We just dont have much to compare it to as of yet :)

We want to cruise now like 2 or 3 a year ... they got us, hook line and sinker ...

am booked on the Sun in March; as I prefer smaller ships I am looking forward to the Sun. I am curious to see if I still prefer her over a much newer ship like the Getaway I am sailing next month. As long as the Sun is not totally worn out I think I will prefer her over the bells and whistles of her sibling.

I do want to hear about the tariff restaurants on the Sun, are they of high quality, are they in demand requiring reservations before the cruise?. And finally how is the entertainment on board. There is much talk about the shows on Breakaway and Getaway but not on the older ships.

The day the Sun was christened, the Star was also christened is a joint ceremony. I think of them as fraternal twins with no resemblance......so I just booked the Star out of Tampa for the same itinerary in Feb 2016. Will be interesting to compare:rolleyes:

Will wait to see more postings on the Sun:cool:

I am booked on her March 1,2015 sailing out of Tampa. Got the cabin I wanted above the bridge overlooking the bow and a quick walk to the pool. I prefer smaller ships so the Sun should do me fine if......if she is in good repair. If NCL is letting her really show her age...worn carpets, stained furniture, and rust...I would be disappointed.

Because I am sailing Getaway late Nov, will the Sun's age play an issue??????

I realize the two ships are totally different in their amenities, but the condition of the Sun has me wondering.

Any comments on her appearance?

I do not need much, a clean bed, a hot shower, some food, a good barman and friendly passengers. I am truly hoping I enjoy the Sun over the Getaway.

Another question.....how is the gym, steam and sauna. I am an early morning gym person...before breakfast. How is the gym equipment...in good repair?

Are the steam and sauna coed or separate for men and women? I find a steam to be a true luxury I can have at home. The gym rids me of the calories, the steam gets rid of the "beverages":D

Oh, are the specialty restaurants like Cagneys as good as on NCL's newer ships? Thinking about the premium dinning package......has anyone purchased it on the Sun? A pleasant experience or just so so?

Thanks

Tom

I'm on the week before you. Can not wait. We have sailed once before, but it was with RCI we were on the Freedom. She is a really nice ship. But I am really looking forward to trying a smaller ship.

Already a lot of info in this thread. I was on the Sun in Sept and posted several times about various things about the Sun. Thought it was a great ship and had a really fun time, especially being in the Newlywed/Not-So-Newlywed Game and the Hubbard Glacier was amazing.

I'll be on the Sun in about two weeks. I plan on posting a review unless I see some of the board trolls continue to flame posters because they don't like their writing/photo style. I'm going for a fun vacation, not to nitpick the ship/crew. :D

I will look forward to your review no matter what the style...:) We are sailing Dec 7th. We like the small ships and loved the Star, hope we love the Sun too. I saw that thread the other day. People should be happy that anyone takes the time to post a review. You don't like the style, don't read it and move on...

Don't worry about the trolls, no matter what, we will always have those.

At any rate, there will be those who will enjoy and appreciate your's and other reviews.

Hoping someone getting off the Sun in Tampa tomorrow can be enticed into posting some of their Panama Canal freestyle dailies. Doing the reverse in April and would like to see what type of activities we might look forward to.

Just got off the 11/2 sailing to Western Carribean and will comment on a couple issues. Smoking was limited to deck 11 and deck 12. Deck 11 smoking area was by the pool deck, 6 tables with 4 chairs each, making finding space challenging just about every day of the week. The area was in the corner of the deck by the gym. On deck 12 the smoking area was less crowded but unknown and difficult to access for mobility challenged individuals. 2 elevators to the deck but then a 2 inch transom to gain access to the open deck from either of the restaurants. It is behind Cagney's and las temblas, and above the Great outdoors acccessible by stairs. Only smoking areas on the ship other than the casino, which was limited to the machines and tables. there were ashtrays on the Bar but by Tuesday they were removed and smoking was not allowed there.

Even with the ship being built this century, it doesn't give a lot of consideration to the ADA, toilets in handicapped bathrooms are regular not elevated. Handicapped bathrooms are located in Crew hallways and again have an elevated entrance/exit maiking it painful for wheelchair and scooter usage, if they have very limited ability to walk. most of the transoms were covered by metal and created bumps, scooters and wheelchairs with hard wheels had trouble negotiating these as well.

Welcome back! Thanks for the feedback. Do you happen to recall what night the Chef's Table dinner was offered? And whether or not they were offereing the BAGS program in Tampa?

I just read through this thread and didn't see anything about the Champagne Bar. Does anyone know anything about this? NCL's website says it's know for vodka, caviar, pate and foie gras. I'm not a vodka drinker or like caviar much but I do love pate and foie gras. Is this included, is there a cost, and do you need to order a drink to get it? Anyone been there or know about this bar?

Thanks!

I was also on the same cruise as you and like to comment on some of what you wrote.

On the smoking I can't comment since quitting 5 years ago but I like to address your remarks on ADA; first of all even though the majority of passengers are Americans the ship like most ships that sail from US ports are not registered in the US the Norwegian Sun is registered in the Bahamas, Nassau, therefore they argue not bound to conform with the ADA (Americans with disabilities act) the doorways around the Ramblas bar that lead to the balcony or open deck are water tight doors and need that high transom to keep water out when sailing in rough seas.

I can't comment on Handicap bathrooms throughout the ship since I didn't have a need for one.

I'm not a disabled person neither is my wife but to our surprise when boarding we were assigned a Handicap cabin #10105 it was twice the size of a regular inside cabin, the toilet appeared to be higher than normal and surrounded by hand rails, the shower has a flat drain that surrounds the shower area to allow a wheel chair in, it also has a folding bench attached to the wall, the whole inside of the bathroom is surrounded by hand rails.

Despite all the problems you encountered I hope you had a great time, this was our first time on Norwegian and truly enjoyed the experience.

Well, cruise was pretty good by our standards .. some little minor issues, but all in all it was a fun time .. we had a meet and greet on the first morning, wife exchanged gifts as did alot of the ladies .. we met alot of the crew, then it was off to the poolside bbq .. lol. We are early risers and we ate breakfast every morning in the Moderno ... we were there at 6:30 am. every morning, first 3 days wasn't busy at all, then people start to find out about it ... (so, keep this a secret) :) We only ate lunch on sail days on the ship,(the bbq) and on embark day we ate in main dining room for lunch in Tampa port .. try the peanut butter cheesecake (only avail for lunch) order 2 pieces .. lol

The main dining room menus are pretty much the same between both main dining rooms, looks like they drop 3 items and add 3 items each day ..We come to believe they do this to make you consider a specialty restaurant .. we ate Italian restaurant 1 evening, I ate steak in main dining room 4 times, rib-eyes and 1 night NY strip .. and wife ate a variety, Rosemary chicken, salmon, rib - eye, Mahi-mahi , and we ate in buffet 1 night as well .. alot of times we ate desserts in buffet after dinner in mdr (would rate food, service, and presentation ) an 8 ... or so :)

We did excursions all 4 days, Maya key -- was nice, snorkeling was good, water was clear, food was good for lunch, and bucket of 6 local beers for 15.00 ..... Then we did Barrier Reef & Snorkel Island Beach Break ..

snorkeling was real good, i have pics from both places, part of that excursion is going to Starfish Island .. i found 2 starfish, and this is/was Bannister island ..which is real nice , nice and clean, drinks are 10.00 though .. but the gift shop has Marie Sharp's Belizean Heat hot sauce in a 4 bottle gift pack ...

we bought it and that's only 2.50 a bottle, cheapest we seen it elsewhere was 16.00 and higher .. Then Almaplena, in Costa Maya .. We only seen 2 other couples there .. picture sitting on a 400 yard beach or so and someone bringing you drinks (in a glass glass) (frozen or on the rocks) ... was like the corona commercial ..:) Then in Cozumel we were off to Nachi Cocom , and all of you here know all about this place ..

The shows were real good, Comedian was real funny, cant think of his name though .. someone will chime in i'm sure.. we also like to go to karaoke and laugh at some and applaud at some .. pools were always clean and the hot tubs are HOT, showers were hot and actually too much pressure if you turn em on all the way ...

Thanks for the information. You say you did the Barrier Reef & Snorkel Island Beach Break. Did you leave at 12:30pm? On our cruise that time is the only option, sort of waste the morning

Ours was at 8:00 am, I booked all early excursions ... was a good reef . but if yours is late, that wont give you much time at starfish island ... you can go to port , and get back to ship, tenders run i think every half hour ...
