Trying to find out everything you all know about the Sun

Just off the Sun on 9/15/2014. Ice bucket in cabin, steward kept it refreshed. I took on (1) 12 pk of Coke, with a luggage tag taped to it, went with our 2 bags of luggage, (boarded at Whittier). Also had steward empty mini-bar, so I could keep sodas and other stuff cold in there, like bottle of wine, small milks, bottle of water, etc. TV was flat-screen. I also brought 32oz of rum divided into 3 rum runners, worked fine. Anything else, just ask.

It seems that the option of sticking a luggage tag directly onto a beverage pack is specific to the port... last year they were not allowing that at the Port of Tampa. But others reported that they were allowing it elsewhere.

uhoh, guess I better have a plan B for our Panama Canal departure next April!

Strange, we sailed the Dawn last November and had no issues "checking" our mixed case of soda and water

We were wondering what all you can spend your on board credits for on the ship, we got a small obc when we purchased cruise, last cruise, we spent some money on ship, first they took it off of obc, then mastercard -- lol :)

Things we are wondering about is like drinks,in bars and poolside, soda purchases in dining rooms, gifts/jewelry/liquor purchases in duty free shops ???

If so, think we will bump it 2-3 hundred before we sail ...

Reason we ask is, we here this, that, and the other .. The people that have sailed NCL Sun will know ;)

I used my OBC to buy pictures. I really didn't spend any "real" money on the ship and it was like I got the pictures for free. :)

Most OBC's, from NCL or your Travel Agent can be used to offset almost any charges applied to your Shipboard Account, with the exception of the Daily Service Charge, (DSC).

So if you had a 7 day cruise as a couple and a $100 OBC and never used your keycard for Bingo, Deal or No Deal, drinks (soda, alcohol, beer), ship photos, etc. You would lose that $100 and get a $168 dollar Daily Service Charge, (DSC) applied at the end of the cruise. But most people will use at least some of what I listed. We did very little extra, but still my wife played some of those games and we paid for 1 ship's photo, so we used our full $50 OBC.

If you are lucky enough to be in a suite, make sure your butler is Randy, I swear he can read your mind, we never went without anything, he was very courteous and non intrusive, I will book a cruise again just to have this guy around

Can OBC be used for excursions?

Well, seems prices went down and we got an upgrade i guess, from Oslo deck, to midship deck 8 .... Whats on 8 ??? closer to most stuff now i guess, have to gather more info from all of you ..... :)

We got an upgrade on our Alaska Cruise earlier this month from Oslo (6a) to Deck 6, Oceanview, Starboard Forward and it was great. On Deck 6, you could walk all the way from the front to the back indoors, then take the aft elevators to 11 for Moderno, Buffet's and Sports Bar or 12 for Las Ramblas, (we went almost every night for Karaoke). Also the MDR's were just one deck down on deck 5, with staircases right by them, easy descent for dinner.

I don't think there is much at all on Deck 8 except cabins. Deck 7 has the Casino and shops, Deck 6 is the night club, Dazzles and the showroom, Stardust.

Deck 8 is all cabins but it's deck 7, especially aft that you may want to explore. Deck 9 is all cabins as well so no worries there.

Here's the link to NCL sun deck plans: http://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/sun/decks/2/7#tab_detail

Hopefully it works ok. I know some can't open sites though. I find going to the ncl site easier to see where there might be problems on the decks above and below.

Cheers

We really want to thank all of whom here that have participated on this thread, we believe with all the advice that all of you gave us and others as well, will make our upcoming cruise alot more enjoyable .... we still have to explore all the spots that were mentioned, but all the little secret spots to eat different meals at different places i'm sure would have taken us 3 or 4 days to find out ...

Thanks again, Cyndee and Jeff .. :)

We are on the same cruise as buccaneer. How do you get an upgrade? Do you have to request one (if available). We booked thru a T.A. Does that matter - do we notify her that we want an upgrade? We currently have a midship inside on Deck 8 but would gladly take an outside for an upgrade - even an obstructed view. Thanks

When we booked our cruise originally, we contacted norwegian and the person we talked to was a Senior Personal Cruise Consultant

now, this has been our contact throughout everything --

all we did is go to norwegians website, did a mock booking of the lower price, then i emailed her, she emailed me back in like 15 minutes, she contacted her supervisor, and then like 2-3 minutes later, we got a cruise conformation for reservation -- and it shows up imediately on your vacation summary .....

if you dont have a consultant, i can give you mine ... will have to after work, cause i cant go to my email at work -- (security reasons)

I booked thru a large online cruise discounter TA. I kept track of the prices and when it dropped, contacted my TA Rep and asked about an upgrade. He put me on hold and then told me he could upgrade me from inside to oceanview (partially obstructed) no additional fee, I said fine. BTW the "partial obstruction was nothing in my mind. Deck 6 Promenade deck with the running track and our 3ft wide porthole lined up perfectly with the center of the larger oval opening outboard of the open deck/track area.
