I am organizing my first M&G in just over a month, and I am wondering what did you do on your M&G ?

 

There are the classics :

 

Slotpull

Cabin crawl

Gift exchange

 

 

What else ?

During our M&G, I announced any anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, 1st cruises, 1st time on Ncl, etc that roll callers may have mentioned in their posts. We had several long term anniversaries and 2 birthdays (turning the big 5-0). Took about 5 minutes to do and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Especially enjoy the cabin crawl. Always fun to see the different cabin categories.

 

A group slot pull is fun, too. Who knows -- you may win your cruise fare back! One can always dream.:)

That's what I thought too and it seemed to make things go better. Several of the rollcallers said that was the best M&G they had ever attended. :)

There are a few "occasions" worth mentioning...since a few of the folks I am sailing with are active on this board...I will say that I MIGHT do it ;)

I have never organized one so it certainly isn't from experience lol but something that might work would be to go around the room and have people do a very brief introduction as to who they are. Maybe just cruise critic screen names and real names. I have only attended two meet and greet functions on cruises and left them both wondering still who most people were!

Good Idea! We went to a M&G that did that and it worked out quite well.

Fun idea :D We enjoyed the raffle on our Roll Call. Some pax brought something to raffle off and others didn't. No matter, it was fun to watch..., we brought Maple Syrup, just a small bottle in the shape of a Maple Leaf, and it was the 1st thing chosen by a little guy who's Dad had the first ticket. The little guy was thrilled, and so were Mom and Dad. (so were we, made someone very happy)

 

It's all fun, great way to make friends.

I had thought about doing this at our M&G too after announcing the special occasions, etc., but we had a good Q & A with the Dawn staff and then a gift exchange. By then everyone had other plans on the ship.

My husband and I just got off the Breakaway on Sunday. One lady worked very hard for our group. Linda actually arranged it with NCL for us to have lunch together as soon as we got on the ship. They gave us "Taste" all to ourselves. What a way to start a cruise! I believe I heard Linda saying that only four people who signed up for the luncheon didn't show.

Another activity we used on our NCL Spirit Med cruise was a trivia game about the ports and the ship. Folks actually put 5€ in the pot. If they wanted to play and not be in the pot, that was OK. The pot was split 70/30 for 1st and 2nd place winner. Sample questions: what was the original name of the Spirit, what port on our cruise was once known as Constantinople? How many bridges cross the grand canal in Venice? You get the idea. Lots of fun. Final question where are we right now? People trying to figure that one out(a sea day) answer: Henry's Pub. LOL.

 

We also brought small gifts from our home area for gift exchange.

Sometimes when invited, the Captain and/or other officers & staff members do attend and will speak briefly. This is NOT the proper time to voice any complaints about the ship. It's a social gathering. :)

This will be our 4th NCL cruise, and we have never been to a meet & greet. With that being said, I have just recently become addicted to Cruise Critic, so I never knew about them in the past. :)

 

I love all of the ideas that have been posted, and I hope that one gets organized for our cruise in January.

We did a group dinner on a sea night for everyone celebrating a birthday or other occasion. Cagney's gave us a private area.

For the cabin crawl we each put in five bucks and then there was a poker draw in each cabin. At the end of the crawl we were in the DOS on the Star and everyone formed their poker hands. Winner take all!

During the crawl, members were quite generous with snacks and hospitality.

We arranged the slot pull with the casino manager and she comped us each a drink.

You can always as the people in your Roll Call what they would like to do. I am hosting my next cruise M&G in nov and I did that and i got some ideas like bowling and Ice bar (we will be on the Breakaway), lunch last day at sea, gift exchange, cabin crawl, slot pull. I keep the lists updated as people sign up so everybody keeps informed. you can check the link and you will see, look for posting #301 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=44148346&posted=1#post44148346

 

I am not necessarily participating in all of them, but i will help keeping posted and at the M&G helping people to sign up and keep in touch with the print out of the lists.

 

Even if you are not the host, you can openly ask the roll call you are on, what they think and what they would like to do.

I forgot to mention, I also created and email just for this cruise so people can exchange info without having to post their own emails because the junk mail.
