Would you cruise on a ship with no pool?

I have used the pools a few times, and they were quite refreshing. I remember on one cruise that the seas were so heavy that if you were in the water you could get out onto the ledge without ANY work at all! Quite a lot of sloshing that day.

I don't think I would go on a ship without pools because I believe that having pools helps to bring a lot of diverse people and ages onto a ship. I love being around a variety of people, and I think if the pools were eliminated, a lot of the younger people and people with wonderful children would not cruise on that ship. Just MHO.

I have never used the sess pools or the vomitus hotubs. LOL ;)

I watch the color of the pool turn from crystal blue at 6am to mud pie green /brown by 4 in the afternoon. (no thanks.) This also goes for the Solarium Pool because as always poopaloopas get brought in their swimmies by their parents, even against ship rules and guidelines.

I prefer to sit on my balcony or the deck above pool deck.

The feces fandango in the green pee pool is not my thing.

Folgy, you crack me up!!! I needed a good laugh today.

We don't go to the pool area. Neither one of us has ever been much interested in sunning or swimming in pools. I do enjoy swimming in the ocean because I enjoy the waves, but once I'm done swimming I go home. I don't lie on the beach to sun. A cruise ship without a pool area would be no problem for me.

The pool area is a big part of cruising for many passengers. So I say let them have their pool as long as I can have the gym, the putt putt golf and the basketball court.

I dont like public pools at all. I dont even like to use the hot tub at the cabin we always stay in for our usual winter vacations.

You dont know how many dirty a$$es have been in there! I am kinda a germaphobe.

Besides, didnt you know fat chicks dont swim in public!:D :p

We love the beach but do not use the pool at all. If we want to sit in the sun we will use our balcony or a quiet deck area. We won't use public hot tubs because I can't stand the thought of all those germs. I was thinking about how expensive it must be for the maintentance of the pool, hot tubs, towels, staff, etc. I kind of wonder how much of the cruise fare subsidizes these.(I do realize that ships try to offer something for everyone) Just curious-does anyone else not use the pool or are we the only ones?
I would not book a cruise without a pool onboard! Judging from the crowds that always surround the pool, I suspect I'm in the majority.

I seem to be in the minority here. I love the cruise pools and use them daily on sea days. Besides, where on earth would they have belly flop contests? :p I NEVER go in hot tubs. They were the cause of legionnaire's disease on our cruise to Bermuda on the Horizon approx 10 years ago. <shudder> I thought I would like the solarium pool on the Rhapsody but it was wayyyyyyyyy to humid. I'm glad there are different activities for everyone to enjoy.

We would never book a cruise without an enclosed covered pool and hot tub area (ie a Solarium), that is adults only. We have a pool and a hot tub at home, but on vacation we don't have to take care of it and can really enjoy it, and germs???? You are exposed to so many more germs in the buffet or on the stairs.....no children are allowed, so no feces....!!!

Ah, but don't the fish poop in the ocean? ;)

No offense--and I'm just curious... are you suggesting that passengers who choose not to use the pools and hot tubs are 'subsidizing' those who choose to use them and that there should be an extra charge for passengers who wish to use those facilities?

It was just a thought or observation. I think there would be an uproar if cruiselines did charge for them. There have been so many threads about the charges for the specialty restaurants, drinks, etc and how these charges keep fares down for the rest of us yada, yada. Why do they charge for a yoga class or wine tasting and not for the pool or gym? These certainly cost an awful lot to build and maintain. I just wonder how the cruiselines decide what should be revenue producing and what is free. I never see tons of people in the pool but rather see a lot of people laying around the pool and hogging chairs. I would give up the pool or gym on a ship in a heartbeat if there was better entertainment or all the food could be as good as the specialty restaurants without an extra charge or drinks could be free. I know this is unrealistic and would never happen. (Maybe there should be a cruiseline for couch potatoes-instead of Richard Simmons' "cruise to lose" maybe there can be a "cruise to snooze and booze" -lol) As far as those who talked about germs in other places, you can wash your hands in the buffet or after touching railings or other public objects. The difference and danger in a pool or hot tub is getting water in mucous membranes such as splashing in your eye and mouth. Once it touches these areas you are contaminated.

And we all know everyone always follows the rules ;)

It's not only children who have accidents though, I did see a Solarium pool closed once due to a senior citizen's fecal incident.

I don't like pools or hot tubs and haven't been in one in years. But I don't care if they're on the ship or not. For that matter, I've never set foot in a casino*, disco* or bingo session either, but it makes no difference to me if they're offered on board or not.

*Actually, I should amend that to read "on board a ship" because I used to be a blackjack dealer a couple decades ago (in 1981-82) and I was quite a disco girl at that time too :D  . Ah, the good old days of youth when I would go to bed at 6 am, sleep until noon, go to university in the afternoon, and back to the casino at 9:00 pm. And managed to get great grades too!! But I digress... :p

Got to have those pools! I'm one of those who spends sea days by the (aft adult-only) pool and thoroughly enjoy it! I do take a dip now and then, and love the fresh-water pools on HAL. I also can just stand under the poolside shower if I get hot. Without a pool, it's kind of like going to the beach where there's no water....just pretty sand. I think it's just the ambiance for me, and just knowing that the pool is there.

The pools are kind of like a campfire or fireplace. They give people something to gather around. Don't forget that for some, this might be their only opportunity to go into a pool all year. I only take a brief dip in the pool the morning of port days when we have the pool all to ourselves.
