Not that I am complaining but we have ended up with $1000 obc on our upcoming cruise, we have ubp and already booked and paid for our speciality restaurants. if we don't use all this credit do we lose it or is there a way to claim it at the end of the cruise?

Depends, there are two types of OBC; refundable and non-refundable.

Most OBC given by the cruise line is non-refundable.

If it's non-refundable, spend it on the spa, the gift shops (watches, sunglasses, jewelry, etc), Future Cruise Certificates.

It's a shame NCL doesn't sell Apple products like Celebrity does, nothing wrong with a free iPad with that amount of OBC. :D

I have the exact same issue. We have OBC's from NCL and from our TA.

When we booked; our perks included the UBP & the UDP. I am going to call the TA tomorrow to find out exactly what we can (or can't) do with the OBCs. I would assume that if you don't use it...you lose it? I want to know if we can use it towards our DSC? I've tried researching and I get answers both ways...yes and/or no:-) I will post tomorrow after I speak with our Travel Agent. It seems that there are refundable (I would assume these are ones that have been paid for with cash or cards) and non-refundable (that are basically paperless credits).

Anyone else have any info?

Cheers,

Sandra.

Non-refundable credit is what NCL will give you for booking promotions, etc. If you have anything left over, you will not receive a refund at the end of the cruise.

If anything runs like it did in the past....NCL will use first the REFUNDABLE credit against your account, so make sure you keep track of what is being used.

If you are doing extra tipping at the end of the cruise you can always "buy" the gratuity vouchers and that can be used against the non-refundable type OBC.

We always buy Future Cruise Credits with ours. If you are on a ship with the new program, it seems you will get some additional perks for you next cruise(s) if you book your reservation(s) while on the ship. So, plan ahead!

The OBC from NCL is non-refundable and you must use it. Not sure about the OBC from your TA. So it's good to ask.

You can't use the NCL OBC for DSC, but you can use the the OBC from your TA for that.

What a great problem to have!!!!

If you are on a ship with Howl at the Moon, buy drinks for the performers. We had a guy on the last night of our cruise that was buying drinks like crazy for the guys playing (including performers from other shows that were playing some and hanging out). We assumed that he had a bunch of OBC to use or just really, really appreciated their entertainment. :D

On that last question on using in the casino, the question is (was) yes - with a 3% fee - drawn funds against your stateroom account at the casino cashier, some of our veteran CAS players has the steps written out - search for that, updated within the last 3 months. You can then cash out the unused slot pay money and/or chips at the cashier - and walk away with the remaining cash ... just don't lose it all "playing".

DH usually spend it at the duty-free shops for cosmetics & alike, so that can be a good option for OP depending on the tax status of returning travelers going home to the UK - same with cigarettes & liquor, as we usually gifted them away. Another use - portraits at the photo studios & maybe even a digital camera on sale (always know/check the retail prices on land first, selections are limited) Those Citizens & Seiko watches on "sale" can be a decent buy, not really saving a lot but it's comparable to buying them close to retail when Macy's put them on sale, which is practically every week ...

For disembarkation, if not already purchased & flying home directly, airport transportation/shuttle - airline flight schedule permitting, can be used.

As others said, most of the OBC if not all issued by NCL for these promo are non-refundable, those from independent TA's are usually refundable - check your sailing details under MyNCL dot com as they should be listed as non/refundabe, or go to Guest Services soon after embarkation/sailing or on Day 2 to check.

You could also try canceling then rebooking your specialty restaurants once on board and get the credit on your credit card.

Even though the original charge was to credit card, refunds for cancellations are to the shipboard account.

I spoke with my TA this morning & all our OBC's (hers and NCL) are non-refundable. And she said they cannot be used towards the DSC. I'm not too worried; we have $500 OBC and I'm sure between the four of us we will manage to spend it!
