We are staying here pre-cruise and I'll need to stop by a store to get water, soda, creamer, etc. before hand? Does anyone happen to know if there are any stores nearby that I could get these things?

Not sure about nearby (walkable), but I think the hotel shuttle is available to drop you off and give you a ride back from dining/shopping in the area. I would call the hotel front desk to confirm these reports.

Thanks John! I will definitely give them a call and check it out. :)

Why are you staying there? A hotel closer to the airport or closer to downtown might suit you better. Personally, I wouldn't go walking around that neighborhood in broad daylight without an escort or security guard.

Just sayin'.....

I suspect it is the free airport and port shuttle offers that attract many cruisers to this hotel.

That may be but who wants to stay in what I consider to be a pretty raunchy neighborhood? There are so many other hotels in Miami, as you have mentioned on another thread. I don't consider Miami to be shady or seedy as BlueHerons does but there are so many nicer areas than around the Jackson area.

There is a Winn-Dixie about a mile away, across the 12th Ave bridge over the Miami River. As hinted above it is not a walk to make unless you are comfortable in tough urban neighborhoods. Inexplicably the City of Miami Trolleys that stop right in front of the hotel pass by that Winn-Dixie but do not have a stop close by it.

The area around the hotel will certainly be a ghost town on a Friday night but they will shuttle you to Bayside in the evening; failing all else you can pick up sundries at the CVS across from Bayside and lug them back to where the shuttle retrieves you. Or just cab it to the port Saturday morning with a shopping stop (won't run much more than the cost of the hotel's port shuttle, which unlike the airport or evening dinner shuttles are reported as not free).

Thank you so much for this! I was wondering if the cost would be similar to just take a cab.

My family and I get into Miami late and as John said, we are just looking for a place to sleep and also for a room that will handle 5 adults and this place fit the bill.

We stayed there in Jan and had no issues with the hotel or the area. We did have one issue with the shuttle, some people did not sign up ahead of time, but were let on, so there ended up being too many people. We waited about half-an-hour for another one. It turned out ok, as the one we took wasn't as crowded as the first.

Hi! We are arriving late at MIA airport and then cruise the next morning out of Miami on NCL Getaway. 3 of us. What is best options for a hotel? We don't intend to see much of Miami before the cruise and are booked at Turnberry Isle post cruise. We will need to use Taxi or shuttle for transport.

Thanks in advance!

The Intercontinental Hotel faces the Port of Miami - about one mile from the entrance. The Epic Hotel is just a block from that, on the Miami River.

The Marriott Marquis is right next to the Epic, again on the river. The Hyatt is just a block from the Marriott but on a busy roadway.

The YVE Hotel is a budget hotel, on Biscayne Blvd just a half mile from the entrance to the port, and the Holiday Inn Port of Miami Downtown is directly across from the entrance to the port (the bridge over to Dodge Island, not the tunnel). Lots of choices, depends on how much you want to spend.

There are also lots of hotels near the airport but who wants to stay near all that noise? In a real pinch, there is a hotel in the airport called MIA near Concourse E Departure level (I stayed there once because of a very early flight - double paned windows shut out the noise), and the Hilton is on Blue Lagoon Drive, just across the expressway from the airport.

Personally, if I had to pick a hotel in Miami (which I don't because I live here.....) I'd stay at the Hampton Inn Brickell, just on the other side of the Miami River in a quaint neighborhood and only about 2 miles to the port entrance.

Ask if the hotel you book provides an airport shuttle.

Arriving late and just want an inexpensive room? Close to the airport with free airport and port shuttles check out the La Quinta East, Springhill Suites Medical Center, Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon and the Embassy Suites MIA. Lots of other hotels near MIA - if a port shuttle is not included a taxi from MIA area hotels to the port will run about $27-30 on the meter.

Those hotels are all great, however the majority of them are at a much higher price point especially during season as you know.

This is one of several hotels we are considering for our cruise next January. We are only staying in Miami for one night so it doesn't have to be fancy. Cost is something that we consider as well as the shuttle service from the airport. We will probably take a taxi to the port in the morning and skip the hotel's shuttle.

I was wondering about where we could pick up a few thing to bring on board. Is there any drugstores or stores to get soda, snacks, wine, near by or is that something you would have to take a cab to get to? thanks

the hotel is often suggested, but I have never stayed there. Plug the address into google maps and see what is nearby.
