vplsh Posted July 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks for the information! Our cruise has now gone down $200 and we get our gratuities pre-paid! What a great deal for a New Year's Cruise!!!
partybarbie Posted July 29, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Glad I could help some folks out. I've sailed on the Caribbean Princess once before (it's been a few years) and don't recall having any problems with the ship. As far as the weather, I've sailed out of Galveston in December and it was pouring down rain when we left port, but we had 80 degree temps in the Caribbean. I look at it this way, if I don't have to cook, clean, or do laundry, it's a vacation.:D

beckntom Posted July 30, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Such a coincidence. The day the free gratuity sale started, our cruise price (for 12-6-15) went up to more than cover the "free" gratuities Princess would be giving us. I was disappointed but not surprised. If this is the Caribbean Princess leaving from Houston on 12/6/15, I checked it out yesterday. It the exact same price as the Liberty leaving from Galveston on the same day, only Princess has one more stop, Costa Maya. I called the "big box store" travel department, and after checking with Princess they found the free gratuities was applicable to inside cabins, and the "big box store" has an additional $95 obc on top of Princess's offer. Total was $1,238 for a category 1A, plus free gratuities, plus $95 obc. We almost switched to it, but since we are D+ with RCCL, decided to stay with the Liberty. It was tempting, though. honey8572 Posted July 30, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 30, 2015 thanks for posting this. My TA didn't know about it. My cruise fare went down $1000 (for an Emerald deck mini-suite) on the 12/20 cruise, plus free gratuities, and a bunch of OBC for being in a group. Not bad. It apparently covers other ships, too, my TA said--she's going to call back about other people she has going out of FL over Xmas.:)

Viesczy Posted July 31, 2015 #24 Share Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) I know that folks have complained about the "sales" before, so my voice is going to echo. We're booked on the 21 day B2B from Houston; the price we got on the non-sale is $88.50 less than the "sale" price when factoring in the daily gratuity into our price. AND we got OBC too. Now I'm not complaining about paying less at all! Just sorta kills me how manipulative the industry in general has become. They're going to get X per cabin no matter how many different ways put a bow on it. Edited July 31, 2015 by Viesczy clarity

Now I'm not complaining about paying less at all! Just sorta kills me how manipulative the industry in general has become. They're going to get X per cabin no matter how many different ways put a bow on it. Along with Princess, Carnival and RCI also have gone to what RCI calls "pricing integrity." In other words, the object is to essentially maintain the same basic pricing all the way to embarkation and not have sales which will actually reduce overall revenue. Carnival has stated their new philosophy is to not have last minute deep discounts to fill up the ship. They would rather have a few cabins empty than offering the deep discounts. RCI has said that by not discounting they can maintain the image of offering a higher quality product. They see a need for customers to be retrained to not wait for pricing discounts (that will not be offered in the future) but to book a cruise earlier than in the past. So it is not surprising that Princess pricing before, during and after sales really does not change that much.
