We are also leaving on Saturday, on the Fascination out of Jacksonville. Scheduled to be in Half Moon Cay on Monday 8/31 and Nassau Tuesday 9/1. I guess even if we make it to both ports it looks like we should expect rain? Kind of a bummer. :(

You will be safe and maybe just a few rough water days so pack plenty of seasickness meds or get the patch from Dr.

In the future if anyone is that concerned about the weather this time of year I would NOT book a cruise as it is the high season for hurricanes ;). Or make sure your get travel insurance to cancel for any reason and that way you can cancel if too anxious.

I live right on the east coast of Florida, so hurricanes are no surprise this time of year.

For everyone traveling to meet your ship, be careful. We will all have a fabulous cruise despite A LITTLE RAIN AND WIND. Yes, the power of persuasion. :)

Anyway, as one person mentioned for nausea, lemon and ginger ale.........ginger ale is fabulous. Also, the little magnetic bracelets that the ship sells for $10, believe it or not.......THEY WORK! They are pressure point bracelets and worth every penny. My feeling, if you need them they are great to have on standby. One thing, if you even think you'll have a problem, put them on because once the feeling of seasickness starts coming on the bracelets WILL NOT stop it. Trust me! I've never needed them on a cruise ship, but on the little gambling boats and they worked!!!

Happy, safe sailing to us all!!!

We are on this sailing too. My only hope 4is that we go Somewhere! As long as we can get on the ship on Saturday - I'll be fine with any or no ports! Cheers will become more economical!

I keep thinking Carnival stands to lose a good amount of money if the cruise gets cancelled, so they will do everything possible to get us on and keep us out of harm's way.

My biggest fear is flying into Orlando on Thursday and being marooned there for two weeks until my flight back to NY on 9/9 if conditions deteriorate.

We are flying in tomorrow too. At least we are ahead of it but I have to say I'm a little worried.

St. Kitts would have been a new port for us but oh well life sails on. No clue when we would do Nassau or half moon, Friday Saturday or Sunday could all work

We're on the Conquest out of Ft L on the 31st. Well, supposed to be on the Conquest on the 31st. Please do keep us updated on when the ship will arrive - as I'm thinking you are going to get an extra day. Stay dry and keep the ship shipshape for us please......

Flying into Miami Friday morning to board the Carnival Ecstasy bound for the Bahamas...Not looking to good so far but no word yet on cancellations. I did call Carnival yesterday and they said there wouldn't be any decisions made till the day before

Thanks, I keep telling myself that but I suffer with anxiety so this is making me worse. As long as we go somewhere and manage to board I'll be happy but as you say there Isn't anything I can do about it anyway.

I can totally empathize. I have mild anxiety too. I keep telling myself don't worry if I can't change it. My family knows my anxiety and just allows me to do what I have to do, and my DH offers me a drink ;).

The captain knows what he's doing, and they get better forecast data than we could as far as potential storm paths. Worst case scenario (my favorite way to calm down) you may have to skip a port. I say have an extra cocktail, try to relax, and most importantly...have fun! :)

Let us know how your trip went.

Rather agree with you and don't think you intended it in an ugly way... nor do I.

People who book during hurricane/tropical storm season (especially Aug., Sept., Oct) need to be flexible. If not knowing If, When, or Where the cruise will actually go is causing anxiety ... it is not a good time of year to schedule a cruise. :)

So long as the casino, bar and buffet are open, I am good.

They don't cancel the cruises too often (I think one of the last ones I remember actually being cancelled was a Baltimore trip when Sandy blew in, could have been the Pride and the passengers were on the ship enjoying a DOD...my brother was one of them...) and will keep you safe as long as you are flexible on the ports should there be changes.

We are on Pride departing Sunday from Baltimore. Hoping by the time we get down south, the storm will have passed. No sense worrying about it, they will keep us safe and better than being at work!

If it turns north before Monday, you might have some rough weather. If it goes across the southern Peninsula on Monday/ and you're stopping at Port Canaveral first, you'll probably miss it.

I'm leaving on Ecstasy Friday... We will see where we go... :)

Maybe Nassau, maybe somewhere else... Hey the ship is the destination :D

I will be on that cruise with you.....

We should have no problem leaving Miami, but coming back on Monday is going to be an issue. My guess is that we will probably go to Mexico and then float around until the storm passes. Might get an extra day!

If it's over the Bahamas early Sunday and appears to still be heading toward Miami, you'll probably see ships trying to leave as early as they can since it's better to ride out a storm at sea than tied to a dock. If they think there is a safety issue, they'll skeleton crew the ship and either cancel or shorten the cruise on Sunday. If the storm is turning north ships might be able to get out with a hug the coast southern route. If it's heading straight on, they could sail north then east to go around as the storm's northwest side is usually the lesser intensity side. Might miss a early port. Again though that'll be a call closer to Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Ok, ive been looking over the models and European models too and Erika can't seem get organized. lots of westerly wind shear aloft high up blowing cloud tops off to the east. Why they think Erika will reach Hurricane strength and stay a hurricane up to just before Florida coast I just don't see it. It may hit hurricane strength but just barely and probably fall back to tropical storm quickly. I See it just barely hanging on to tropical strength and probably falling to tropical depression as its crossing the Bahamas. I'm pretty sure all Saturday sailings will leave port and head straight south around the end of Florida and then around the west end of Cuba and then Eastern Caribbean cruises will head along the south of Cuba towards St. Thomas or Maartin and other eastern ports. Western Caribbean ports I wouldnt think Carnival would change anything cause the storm wont effect that area. as far as if anyone's eastern ports get cancelled, moved to a different date or a different ports that of course is up to Carnival. I just look at the weather models and make my own forcast. I've been pretty good at it in the past.
