jpm1973 Posted September 10, 2015 #951 Share Posted September 10, 2015 He did clarify - see below. We were told by Laly, the Carnival Care specialist, that we were granted clearance yesterday by the coast guard, but it was retracted due to us not sailing last night. According to her, we have now been granted clearance by the coast guard this morning and are set to sail tonight or early tomorrow. As far as refunding air fare, the refund will be for outbound flights. I tried to edit my morning post, but I had exceeded my allowed editing time set by Cruise Critic. Jackievi Posted September 10, 2015 #952 Share Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I think he meant they originally had permissions to sail yesterday, but it was retracted. However, this morning they were given permission. That is how i interpreted that. I am hoping that is correct! Yes, that is how I read it too, so they will be returning to San Juan either today or tomorrow and able to remain on the ship until Sunday. Yes, thanks everyone, I saw pauleydm's post clarifying it. Such good news! Edited September 10, 2015 by Jackievi further info

pauleydm Posted September 10, 2015 Author #956 Share Posted September 10, 2015 To answer a previous question, we are staying on the ship until Carnival says otherwise. I do want to make something clear, which hopefully will stop some of the back and forth that has occurred. Since we were allowed to reboard the ship on Monday, all information that I have posted has been either announced by the captain, the cruise director, stated in a letter that was delivered to our stateroom or information that I have been given by a crew member, guest relations or a Carnival Care specialist. Most of these posts have been in real time. I do not have a direct line of communication as Crusinkid does, that is why I have not posted information about the damage to the engine room or what repairs will be necessary to fix the ship. I will only post what we are being told and nothing more. As far as internet, I am not using the free wifi. I have better service using my data plan. jam82 Posted September 10, 2015 #957 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Good morning. We got our walking papers this morning. Zone 10 with a flight to our home in Orlando. If you have been following my posts, our intention was to only be flown to San Juan and then stay in a hotel until we can take our original flight back home on the 13th. Guest services said they would cover the hotel expense. Because our flight plans were not what we requested on our form, we went to the Victoria lounge to speak to a Carnival Care specialist to fix our flights. While on hold with the Miami office, the Carnival Care specialist was pulled aside and told that we have received coast guard clearance and will be sailing to San Juan either tonight or early tomorrow. Guests will then be able to stay on the ship until the 13th. I was just informed by the Carnival Care specialist that clearance was granted yesterday, but the coast guard retracted it. However, she was not able to say way it was retracted. Most of the evening last night, we had fuel trucks next to the ship. The letter we received this morning also stated that our air fare will be refunded. So we have received a free cruise, 50% off another cruise, refunded gratuities and pre paid shore excursions and refunded air fare. If anything changes, I will post an update. That's great that they're covering your airfare. Are they letting guests off the ship for excursions today? I hope all goes well with this latest plan and you can enjoy the rest of your cruise. Thanks so much for keeping us updated.

gone_cruisin Posted September 10, 2015 #960 Share Posted September 10, 2015 True it's impossible to know what the full contingency plan is at this point. If the ship can't sail at full power they might decide to go to various alternatives for those sailing 9/13 and onward. That's what I'm wondering. A modified sailing wouldn't be bad. I told the family when booking this cruise, because it's hurricane season, don't book for the itinerary...book for the ship/room. I told the family when booking this cruise, because it's hurricane season, don't book for the itinerary...book for the ship/room. Good thought. I booked for October, and booked for the itinerary + planned excursions accordingly. While a different itinerary would be somewhat frustrating, as long as the missed excursions (through carnival) would be refunded, a week on the ship in the Caribbean is nothing to complain about! I hope it sails this week, hope it sails on full power, and hope it sails on full power to all of the intended destinations!

Well, tropical storm Ericka changed our plans. We missed St. Maarten and St. Kitts. Stayed overnight in PR, went to Grand Turk (a few days earlier then scheduled) and then to Nassau (not to happy about that) but in the end we had beautiful weather and the seas were calm. We had an awesome time! Good Luck hope everything works out!
fourcruisin Posted September 10, 2015 #964 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Latest post from a social media site from CCL. CARNIVAL LIBERTY STATEMENT September 10, 2015 – 11am The Carnival Liberty continues to remain in St. Thomas following an engine fire that occurred on Monday, Sept. 7, while the ship was docked there during a scheduled port of call visit. Guests are in the process of being flown home from St. Thomas. Several hundred were transported from St. Thomas yesterday and charter flights will continue throughout the day today to a variety of destinations within the U.S. based on where guests live. Charter flights are being utilized based on the limited availability of commercial flights. Carnival Liberty will depart St. Thomas once the U.S. Coast Guard has fully completed their activities on board. All future cruises, including the next voyage departing Sunday, September 13, are scheduled to operate as planned. All guests are being provided with a full refund of their cruise as well as a 50 percent discount on a future cruise. This is in addition to a $150 per person credit that has already been applied to guests’ shipboard accounts. There were no injuries to guests or crew as a result of the fire which was extinguished by the ship’s automated suppression system. All hotel services including air conditioning, elevators, toilets, galleys, etc. are fully functional and the ship's normal array of activities, entertainment, dining options and programming are being offered. All guests are being accommodated on board until their scheduled charter flights depart and are free to enjoy the beaches, shopping, watersports and variety of activities available in St. Thomas. We apologize to our guests for this unexpected disruption to their vacation and the inconvenience they are experiencing. Carnival Liberty departed San Juan on Sunday for a seven-day Caribbean cruise with 3,346 guests and 1,150 crew on board.

kublaieod Posted September 10, 2015 #966 Share Posted September 10, 2015 WOW - Over 1K posts. I appreciate greatly what the OP has contributed for us "cruise junkies". Carnival did a wonderful job handling this situation from what the OP has reported. With the volatility of this thread I wouldn't feel you need to be obligated from this point on to report anything. Thank you so much for keeping us in the loop and remaining incredibly objective and understanding.

Been on several cruises that had modified itineraries. Wasn't happy at first but you make the best of it. Next cruise is in a couple of weeks worried about hurricanes but if things change I'm sure I will deal with it. In your cruise contract that cruise line has the right to change itinerary. St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Croix, Tortola are all within a floating distance away. We're on the 9/20 sailing, so have been closely following this thread (again, thank you Pauleydm for the updates). With passengers embarking/disembarking in Barbados, I'm guessing that would be a definite stop. They may change itinerary to a similar one they did a couple weeks ago with the hurricane. San Juan, sea day (instead of St. Thomas), sea day, Barbados, and then whatever they decide after that. ragethjj23 Posted September 10, 2015 #971 Share Posted September 10, 2015 They may change to something better? Î Better for some, but not those that have researched and planned for many months. I have picked every excursion on every island. I would be disappointed if I couldn't do one, for instance calabaza in Barbados.
pauleydm Posted September 10, 2015 Author #972 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Charter flights are still happening today for guests that want to leave the ship and will continue until 5:30. pghsteelerfan Posted September 10, 2015 #973 Share Posted September 10, 2015 ragethjj23, not positive, but pretty sure we'll still be going to Barbados as other passengers embark/disembark there. Itinerary could be altered otherwise but nothing has been said by Carnival yet.
