Splendor drydock

Does the addition or subtraction of a couple minor Lido restaurant venues really make a difference in canceling a cruise?

This is not a massive overhaul with or without 2.0 additions. It's not going to be a substantively different ship in a short two week drydock.

March is a few days away and still no one knows what exactly is going to be done to splendor? I have a May 26th cruise booked with a final payment date of March 12th. If I don't find out by then or it is a minor dry dock I may cancel.

The ship is NOT getting 2.0 upgrades... No guys, or iguanas etc. it is getting refurbished (new carpets, tile repair, paint etc..) pools are getting re-tiled and the Spa is getting refurbished along with the shops and casino. But no new venues are being added. It is a large refurbishment package, but not a 2.0 makeover. If you were counting on the 2.0 upgrades when you booked, I would re-think. If those upgrades are not necessary then your good to go.

Carnival really screwed us over by pulling out.

They bowed to the competition. NCL and RC sails year round.

Financial decision I am sure, Winter beats the hell outta the ships... They are built for warm cruising... So many issues with the sub-zero temps (a/c issues, frozen pipes, ice banging on the hull in port etc). Plus the weather issues (look at the Anthem of the seas issue) made making the itinerary difficult to achieve and the fuel consumption through the roof.

Its a shame, we always take winter vacation and love cruising that time of year.

RCI and NCL sail year round from NYC/NJ. Don't see them complaining. Anthem had bad luck and ran into a storm. Captain error.

CCL sails out of Baltimore year round as well. That's a cold climate to,

go figure.

I am certain the engine department IS having a some issues, although minor and not affecting visitor comfort or safety, but repairs and extra fuel, they do add up... plus been a pretty mild winter compared to the polar vortex hell last year. CCL ships are NOT designed for those sub zero Temps. .. Baltimore is a bit milder and closer to Bahamas.

I think I can sum up this thread:

Q: Is the ship getting 2.0 upgrades?

A: No.

Q: I'd like to know about 2.0 upgrades.

A: You do know. They aren't coming.

Q: Sure would like to hear from Carnival on upgrades.

A: We have heard. Here's the link. It specifically says no 2.0 upgrades - just cleaning, mechanical, sprucing, maybe casino.

Q: I wonder if there will be substantial upgrades.

We'd dig the upgrades, but understand they aren't coming -- and are happy to know lots of folks have enjoyed this ship for years before the coming (short) drydock. So we plan on enjoying it as well.

We've come to believe cruises are what you make them. And we plan on making ours a blast.

Bon voyage and happy planning, everyone!

I'm with you :) It's a CRUISE !! That's all I care about. Four weeks from tomorrow I'll be walking the gangway and taking my grandson on his Senior Trip, that's all I care about.

This ship already has burrito bar. It may not have the name BlueIguana Cantina on to make it a funship 2.0 feature but does it have too?

Ship also has a pool side grill that serves burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken and fries and such. Again, so what if it doesn't say Guys above it. Does it need too to serve burgers?

Ship already has how many bars? several? sports bar. Wine bar. Night club. Is not having Red Frog Pub, another bar, a deal breaker?

Plus the ship has SEVERAL other specialty restaurants on-board.

Fun Ship 2.0 features is just a name.

Agree! I have been on 7 Carnival cruises, and of those, one was on a 2.0 ship. I can say that it absolutely no difference to my enjoyment of the cruise. Yes, I had a guy's burger or two, and enjoyed them, had a fish taco from blue iguana and did not enjoy. I was ok with the playlist show, though I really do prefer the full production shows more. I went to red frog pub, and was not blown away, still prefer the atrium bar.

I choose my cruises, by price, itinerary and port of departure among some other things, but 2.0 is never a need for me. Ok if it is, but can do without it, and this just me.

My wife and I must be on the LAST cruise before the drydock. We depart Miami on Feb. 28th. I hope everything looks nice...the carpet, pool tile, paint etc. but at this point as long as it floats, I'll be happy. Get me to the Caribbean!!:)

My wife and I just booked the May 15th cruise. We can't wait!

I was wondering...is it even in the realm of possibilities that they might NOT have that crappy American Table menu? We had it on the Liberty last October and to say that it was underwhelming is being generous... We'd sure love it if it had the old menu...but I've heard that all the ships were supposed to have it by now... :(

Just off Splendor Sunday. At past guest party CD Kevin went down list of what would be added during drydock - American Table was not mentioned. (I am also underwhelmed with that menu.) He did say Splendor would be getting Redfrog and Blue Iguana, along with these 2.0 shows: 88 Keys, Epic Rock, 80's Pop, and I think one more I can't recall.

We are on the first cruise after dry-dock. I really like the Splendor already, so Red Frog and Blue Iguana are fine with me.

I haven't sat through a show on Carnival since they took out the live music.

And I'm not a huge fan of American Table.

One bonus for us is that we do not have to wait for stragglers from the previous cruise to leave the ship! Maybe we will get on a little earlier than normal.

You may be right, as the crew is staying on the ship during this drydock to help out, so everything should be ready to go when you get on. Have a great cruise - we did!!

That's my hope :) I have already done my fun pass for our two cabins and choose the 10:30 - 11:00 check-in time for both cabins. I'm hoping we will ACTUALLY be checking in then and proceed right to boarding !!!

No Guys.

Yes Blue Iguana and Red Frog, per Splendor's CD Kevin. (See p4all's post above)

Like Guys, but it's not a deal breaker. Love the special margarita at Blue Iguana at sailaway, so happy about that! Don't care for the new style shows, but really enjoy being out on deck at night anyway, so that's fine with me. Haven't had American Table, but hope whatever menu it is, there are tablecloths...

A previous poster has quoted the CD as recently as a few days ago, saying Red Frog and Blue Iguana are being added. Do you have more recent info?
