We have been to St. Thomas and St. Martin several times but book the Feb 8th cruise just to enjoy the Royal. However, if we were to want to book an excursion from someone other than Princess, how do you know if the company/person is legit? Nervous since there is so much going on in the world.

There are plenty of general sightseeing tours offed on these islands right outside the pier area, if you have been there you must have seen them. Just ask anyone there. You should join our roll call. There are some private tours planned, but believe they are mostly water tours.

As a rule we'll do a private excursion if we know the island(Jamaica, we'd stay on the ship!)The only downside is to remember your time! We've seen enough pax who missed the ship as we were pulling away. Trust me, they don't come back to pick you up!

Check the Cruise Critic Port Boards as well as Tripadvisor. We just did two private company excurisons in St. Thomas and St. Martin last week and both were outstanding.

Definitely go to the Port of Call boards on here and read the reviews and recommendations for each port you are going to. We have always used private tour groups for our excursions but there are definitely some excursions you would not. For example, in Cozumel we will use the ship's excursion to go see the ruins on the mainland bc it is a 3 hr one way trip and is often delayed getting back to the ship.

St, Martin and St. Thomas are relatively small islands and very safe. Highly recommend Bernard's Tours in St. Martin. Great reviews both here and TripAdvisor. You will see and experience the whole island, Maho Beach (airport) is a must see!

Another vote for Bernard's Tours in St. Maarten. I have used them 2 times and will again in December.

In the past we've had good luck for island tours just choosing a person from the crowd of taxi cab drivers at the pier. Just make sure you settle on a price up front.

Thanks everyone. I tried going to the Bernard's Tours site. It asks me to register with password, id, etc. Is that the normal way to reserve their tours. We have only booked excursions through Princess previously and I wasn't sure if registering first is correct.
