CasinoCruzGirl Posted February 5, 2016 Author #26 Share Posted February 5, 2016 This menu looks exactly like what was on the Star back in April. I was sad to see the pot pie gone. It was a favorite of mine when I was on the Epic. However, being from Flint, Michigan originally I was so excited to see a coney dog on the menu. These were a staple when I was growing up. In my experience everything I tried from the new menu was good. I am not sure if NCL has been testing new things among the different ships in the fleet. I understand to continue to bring a new and exciting cruise experience they must make some changes. Some will like them some will not. Also, these new meg ships cost money so I expect and understand that some changes with prices and gratuities will change. I think all the lines change them and charge more over time. I still think cruising is one of the best vacations out there for what is included and the ports you can stop in. For myself I love it. Someone told me. I will try and find a menu
Rare Dorhead1230 Posted February 5, 2016 #27 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Someone told me. I will try and find a menu Hopefully after this cruise, people will start posting some of the new ones. I am sure it's similar, at any rate! I guess my just OCD kicks in and makes me wonder if it's exactly the same lol.

LrgPizza Posted February 5, 2016 #32 Share Posted February 5, 2016 My fav thing on that new menu were the chicken wings. I thought they were so much better than any I've had there previously. I had a hotdog, and wasn't a huge fan, but I've never liked Nathan's, so not their fault. The fajitas made a good late night snack. I missed the cheese sticks. fshagan Posted February 5, 2016 #38 Share Posted February 5, 2016 And yet the entertainment on the Gem is EXACTLY the same for years and Rock of Ages is still on the Breakaway. And I consider that a BAD thing. You want entertainment to be refreshed. When the contract is up for Rock of Ages it too will be "taken away" and replaced with something else. Listing the "loss" of Blue Man Group but not the addition of the show that replaced it is deceptive. It should be removed from your list. Yeah, every kid knows the King's Foundation and no idea what Nickelodeon is. I'm sure the loss of the themed Pajama Jam with what replaced it (nothing) is winning over children by the hundreds. King's Foundation is an award winning children's program non-profit that has contracts with the US Military and many, many museums. I'm basing my opinion on what parents of children have said; they much prefer the new programs which are consistent, and always available on every cruise (and not suspended, as Spongbob was when the weather got too hot). This is another contractual entertainment option that reached the end of its contract and, in this case, was replaced with a superior offering that NCL had been testing for a few years. List is completely accurate. It just rubs you the wrong way because it's true. Cognitive dissonance is a serious problem with the cheerleaders and shills on this forum. You notice I took issue with exactly two items on your list that are NOT accurate. That doesn't make me a cheerleader. It makes me honest. You can't list as a "loss" something that was replaced with something equal or better. You have been notified of this several times, yet you continue to publish the list frequently. You should correct the mistakes and continue publishing the list as you see fit. But to keep including items that are plainly not "losses" calls into question the entire list, because it makes you look unreliable.
DMH15 Posted February 5, 2016 #39 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Considering all the changes in the last year... Nickelodeon gone Geoffrey Zakarian gone 18% gratuity on specialty dining DSC raised twice drink prices raised 18% gratuity on drinks 18% gratuity on food/coffee purchases ( Java Cafe/Carlo's/gelato etc) Asian Noodle restaurant complimentary but reduced menu Hippo Slide on GSC gone Fireworks gone UDP is now SDP UBP used to be for everyone in room, but now it's just first two passengers Room service $7.95 except for a much smaller limited "continental breakfast" Blue Man Group gone Now pay taxes on "free" UBP/SDP No more kids pricing in specialty restaurants Port times shortened on a number of itineraries "for your convenience" No more free Cirque or Illusionarium on first night with dining package Margaritaville on Escape is now a la carte. Used to be included. Cancellation policy got much worse. Yeah, it's nice to see a positive. And yes, after I take this cruise that I booked since July, I'm taking a break from NCL. I'm taking my business elsewhere. Ok. Now I will play devil's advocate. Changers: Asian restaurant is now complementary. Even if you are not in a suite you can choose to have a hot breakfast in you cabin. Yes, there is a charge but previously not an option. Tired of buying all those drinks in the past? You can now get unlimited as s perk or for a cost. Like specialty dining? But do not want to pig out? You can eat less and save money. NCL instituted an unlimited wifi option in April 2015. I loved it. I could care less about Jeffrey Z, Sponge Bob or guys with green faces. I always tipped at least 18% in specialties or at bar anyway. I love the crew. DSC went up. It should. I am in Accounting. The cost of employee benefits go up too. It is not just salaries. Food and drinks prices go up. My restaurants at home raise prices. I am sure NCL's food costs have gone up too. Was there a hippo and fireworks? I never noticed. So UDP came and went? The new SDP means people get a mix of specialty and complementary meals now. It does not take a genius to know UDP meant a lot of people wanted to eat specialty all the time which meant some could not get in. I am sure there are more. Some of us are just fine with those changes. I will concede that shortened port times is the one thing that bums me out.
LrgPizza Posted February 5, 2016 #40 Share Posted February 5, 2016 "18% gratuity on drinks" should say that the gratuity raised from 15% to 18% after remaining the same for many, many years.
Sizzlechest Posted February 5, 2016 #41 Share Posted February 5, 2016 And I consider that a BAD thing. You want entertainment to be refreshed. When the contract is up for Rock of Ages it too will be "taken away" and replaced with something else. Listing the "loss" of Blue Man Group but not the addition of the show that replaced it is deceptive. It should be removed from your list. It's not deceptive. It got replaced with a cheaper alternative. It was a downgrade, not a refresh. Blue Man Group was extremely popular on NCL and people were sad to see it go. Conversely, nobody is champing at the bit to see that generic dance show "World Beat" (or whatever it's called) on the Gem. The simplest reason why things are the way they are is because The Blue Man group was expensive (because it's popular) but the stale shows on the Gem are cheap. In light of all the cost cutting from the list, it's not hard to see why The Blue Man group is gone. I heard Disney Cruise Lines was planning to get rid of all their character themed entertainment on their ships and replace it with the King's Foundation because of its monstrous popularity with children around the world. It's hard to argue against it since my own child has a King's Foundation backpack and t-shirt. Ask any child about the King's Foundation and their eyes light up with glee. Thankfully NCL swooped in and stole them from those suckers at Disney. NCL 1, Disney 0. Opinion is by nature subjective. You can say that you think hot dogs with ketchup and chocolate sauce taste delicious and hate movies like "The Godfather" and are completely entitled to those preferences. However, you cannot project those personal preferences onto the majority. The Blue Man Group has been around since 1991 and is still popular to this day. You may not like them, but the majority of people obviously disagree since they still continue to perform across the world. You can't pass some second rate sports organization off as an "equal or better" replacement for a multi-billion dollar entertainment juggernaut like Nickelodeon anymore than those vomitous hot dogs. Then again, on this forum...
SuiteCruiser Posted February 5, 2016 #42 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Perhaps we can get back to the menu? If anyone is on the Breakaway, can you please post it? Rare aubreyc1988 Posted February 5, 2016 #43 Share Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) I went on the escape earlier in Jan Service and food was pretty bad in o Sheehans. I actually thought the buffet was better in quality and much faster. When I ordered the bbq burger, there was the tiniest amount of bbq sauce, but I could see if made properly that would be good I hated the nacho chips. Gross gross gross on so many levels. Half the chips are soggy and half crispy, cheese is so icky, I would t waste any calories on it. My husband had the wings and said they were good. The desserts were not good. I used to like them in o Sheehans but in the escape they tasted different. To me, O Sheehans is supposed to be pub style but I didn't find the new menu to so. I felt like it was more pub style before with the mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, etc Also, several sea days they didn't open until 1230 for lunch. I don't know if this was unique to my sailing, but 1230 is too late for lunch!!! Buffet had a small selection out, but they weren't doing the full buffet until 1230 and both taste and savor were also not opening until 1230. Thought that was strange. I also got up in the morning once at 6 am and went to o Sheehans for coffee and they were not open, thought it was a 24 hour venue and was surprised at 6 am they weren't even serving coffee Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited February 5, 2016 by aubreyc1988
ExpatBride Posted February 5, 2016 #44 Share Posted February 5, 2016 This menu was on the Star last June. I was disappointed to see the (old?) menu on Epic last month, and was not impressed with how difficult it was to get a veggie burger or a meatless salad. O'Sheehans saved me many nights on the Star when the MDR vegetarian item was inedible or inadequate.
hpecorari Posted February 5, 2016 #45 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Too bad they took off mozzarella sticks. They launched the new menu early last week. They should have removed the cabbage soup as there is enough gas on board. LOL - coming from Frank n BEANS! Harriet
janpo Posted February 5, 2016 #46 Share Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) We ate twice at O'Sheehans last December on the Jewel. The service was bad both times and the food not so good. People sitting next to us one time had even worse service. They ordered drinks at the beginning of their meal and still hadn't gotten their drinks by the time their meals were half way done. Surprisingly, the buffet had much better food. Edited February 5, 2016 by janpo
hpecorari Posted February 5, 2016 #47 Share Posted February 5, 2016 But when you are making a list, and you want to keep whining about it, you aren't going to take anything off the list even if it's wrong. The list was ABOUT changes. One shouldn't REMOVE a change anything because they think it's 'wrong' or because they 'like' the change. A change is a change - and if that's what the list is about, 'CHANGES' all changes should be on it. You, nor I, have to right to decide what change goes on a list. And the way I read you're post YOU are whining about the change list! LOL Harriet
Trumpster Posted February 5, 2016 #48 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Nothing worse than the mentioning that the buffet was better than Osheehans. Reports of poor service on different ships is not encouraging. Unfortunately the glowing reports from some are completely offset by crap out reports by others. NCL does not engender confidence.
