Food on Royal Caribbean and Carnival

I've sailed on both and they are more alike than different.

As stated, food is very subjective.

Take the same ship and one week, the reports are great, the next week they are disappointing.

My personal opinion??

Buffett goes to RCCL

MDR taste, menu options and presentation is a tie however atmosphere and service goes to Carnival.

Steak House, Carnival

Johnny Rockets on RCCL,, additional cost

Guys Burgers and C-Side BBQ on Carnival ,,, included in cost

We need to book a cruise next May for the Western Caribbean. Which cruise line will offer the "best" dining experience, from those of you who have done both? Thanks in advance!

they are FAR more ALIKE than different and neither would be considered gourmet by any stretch of the imagination. it is mass produced event food.

if you want gourmet/better food, you need to step up to say Celebrity.

If you are cruising for the dining experience, the answer is to go to one of the luxury lines. If you are limiting yourself to CCL and RCCL it is about six of one half a dozen of the other.

Yup, totally subjective but for my family getting off our first RCI cruise a few weeks ago after only 2 Carnival cruises we all definitely vote for Carnival. RCIs FOS buffet is set up better in a bunch of stations virtually eliminating lines but we found not a lot of variety, all the stations were triplicates and desserts were very few. The MDR on RCI may have a bit better quality but less options. Guy's Burgers (included) beats Johnny Rockets (extra cost) by a long shot. RCI FOS (and I think most of their ships?) has a couple of places in the Promenade that were pretty good for snacks - pizza and salads at Sorrentos and sandwiches and pastries at Cafe Promenade which is open almost 24 hours and was quite good.

Many thanks for your help! We want this itinerary in May, so our options aren't as varied as they would be if we had more flexibility. We only have experience with Princess so we appreciate you thoughts on these other two lines.
