Flight time--Miami

Hello all, Hope you can give me some guidance/advice.

 

My husband and I are looking at the MSC Divina 8-night cruise, departing Miami on January 19, 2017 and returning on the 28th. We are planning to book a cabin in the Yacht Club.

 

I looked at the number of ships that will be returning to Miami on the 28th, and the list includes Carnival Glory, Carnival Vista, Celebrity Reflection, Divina, and the Norwegian Escape. The Divina and Celebrity Reflection are scheduled to dock at 7 a.m.; the others at 8 a.m. The total number of passengers scheduled to debark on the 28th is 18,825.:eek:

 

Given the above information, and since we would be staying in the Yacht Club and supposedly would be off the ship early (?) with priority disembarkation, do you think we could make an 11:15 a.m. flight out of Miami? I've heard that the airport can be a zoo, even on a good day.

 

Thoughts, anyone? Thanks so much!!!

Yes you do,,,your butler will escort you all the way to the gangway,,,once you walk into the terminal,,all yacht club luggage will be set aside in it's own area away from the luggage belts.:)

Thanks! Sounds like a really nice "perk" and puts my mind at ease that we could make that flight. Am just glad all those ships (and over 18,000 people) aren't disembarking at 7 a.m.!:)

Last year our flight left at 11:15 and we had no problems. We were in the YC as well.

I wasn't in yacht club and managed to be at Miami airport by 7:30. You'll have no problem at all- Msc was great for both embarkation and debarkation.

Hi Bird & Sam, Many people do exactly that and you might find some really great info on this forum, it's got info specifically regarding FLL and transport to airport/cruise port.

...these came from a top TSA management in Washington DC...after we had things stolen from our bags at the Miami airport !

Miami was the worst in the nation for these problems.

Do NOT check your bags curbside...like we did...these somehow go a different route where they have more access.

Remove ALL tags that identify you have been on a cruise ship. These are like red flags that there are nice things/souvenirs inside.

When I demanded they review video footage they said that would NEVER happen unless a national security problem, there is just too much.

I had purchased miniature perfume bottles for a collection. Unbelievably, they left the boxes & took the bottles. guess they fit better in their pockets that way. I offered to send those boxes so they could get finger prints...they said the majority wear gloves.

We were on the way home so my husband put his shaving kit along with his medicine in his checked luggage.

They actually took his pills & left the prescription bottles.

This was a few years ago but I still remember to well the feeling of violation. We did lose a few other things. And, no....they never did compensate us even after 6 months of filling out numerous papers & talking to many supervisors, so do not waste your time if this happens to you....you will get nothing.

Now, ANYTHING i really care about goes in my carry-on. I had never thought of souvenirs before.

We did! We made an 8:45am flight when we debarked the Divina a few weeks ago! We used self assist debarkation and we used Uber for our transportation ($31 for our family of 4). It was one of the absolute fastest and most efficient debarkations that we've experience in years. We were off the ship at 7:00am and in FLL by 7:45am. I can't comment about the Southwest terminal, but at the Delta terminal, there were ZERO lines that early in the morning. We literally walked right up to the ticket counter and through the security checkpoint with nobody ahead of us.

 

To the OP: On the day of our return, the Carnival Glory, Carnival Sensation, Empress of the Seas and Norwegian Escape were docked along with us. Empress arrived first, followed by the Divina, then Glory followed by the Sensation and Escape was last. We watched from our balcony [emoji3]. But every ship was docked by 6:30am when we left our stateroom. The cruise terminals are independent of each other, so what's going on at the others has little impact on what's going on in yours.

When our bag was stolen on our way to our Alaska cruise a few years back, we received $2,300 in compensation from the airline and the insurance company which covered the stolen items, the new items that we had to purchase, as well as additional money for the inconvenience. But before I filled anything out, I read about our rights in these situations. When I sent my documentation to the airline, I made it clear that I knew what we were entitled to, even naming the controlling agencies and laws governing this kind of situation. Don't know if that's what made the difference, but we received back every penny that I expected and more.

Miami Airport is a cesspool at best. Put nothing of value in checked luggage. Keep it in your carry on.Other than wearables, they will steal anything given a chance.

Travel insurance paid for what we had to purchase in Seattle to replace what was stolen. The airline paid for every stolen item that we itemized in the claim. And they gave us an additional $600 on top of everything else, with or without insurance.
