cruisenuts4life Posted May 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Any thoughts, I am torn between the two, I am not looking for shops, interested in the history of Bermuda. Edited May 25, 2016 by cruisenuts4life
njhorseman Posted May 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2016 St. George. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. Historic buildings, quaint cobblestone-paved streets, etc. Hamilton is the business, commerce and government center of Bermuda, and while it has some points of historical interest, it's more of a modern city. jollyjones Posted May 25, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) St George's is so far ahead of Hamilton in respect to showing you Bermuda's historical heritage, there's no comparison. However, since you are probably going to St George's on the Monday because there are more ferries and you don't want to risk missing the ship by somehow getting stuck up the other end of the island on the Tuesday, don't miss the historical sketch and walking tour in Dockyard - you'll find it starting at the moongate Tuesday morning at 9.30am - look for the soldier in his resplendent red coat and busby. Dockyard may look like a modern cruise port now, but there's so much of interest in the history of why, when, and how it was built by the British Army and Navy in the nineteenth century. DrivesLikeMario Posted May 25, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2016 St. George obviously, but have a back-up plan for any of your days there. We got rained on in St. George. Returned to the ship absolutely soaking wet and miserable.
Barb Nahoumi Posted May 27, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2016 If you go to Hamilton, visit the Historical Society Museum on Queen St. While in St. George, hop aboard the narrated trolley train. The driver will explain the history of many of the local buildings and sights. I think that the adult price is $20.00 for 1 hr. Well worth it. njhorseman Posted June 6, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 6, 2016 I didn't know that there are more ferries on Monday, thanks for input, is last ferry back at 5:30? There is more ferry service to St. George on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday than on Tuesday and Friday, and there's no ferry service to St George at all on Saturday and Sunday. The last ferry back on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday is at 5:30. Here's a link to the schedule: http://www.seaexpress.bm/Documents/Ferry/Summer%20Schedule%202016_FInal%20Web.pdf

MAMATAMA Posted June 20, 2016 #12 Share Posted June 20, 2016 St. Georges is the best for history. If you go at noon you can see the public dunking, its educational as well as fun… I have seen it a few times and try to see it every time we go….( Bermuda is our favorite spot)….The majesty used to dock there, so we are very partial to it…. taxgal Posted June 21, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 21, 2016 We joined the walking tour, which is free and leaves from City Hall (located next to the bus terminal) at 10:30 am daily. We've been to Bermuda five times before; this was the first walking tour we have done. Lead by the Town Crier, it gave us another perspective of Bermuda and took us to several places we had never been before. Price is sure right!
