Haven Access for Non-Haven Passengers?

I'm thinking about upgrading from an M9 to an H9.

My DH and I are booked in an M9 (Spa Mini Suite)...and I'm wondering about upgrading to the H9 Haven Spa Suite With Balcony. DH's sister is cruising in a balcony cabin (purchased the Thermal Suite pass) and our friends, are in an Inside Guarantee.

Is The Haven totally off limits to them? Would we be able to invite them in to the bar for drinks before dinner? Could we have them over for cocktails on the balcony? DH's sister is a solo traveler. Could she wait in the boarding lounge with us?

Really interested in any experiences you've had when you've been in The Haven and are traveling with those 'in steerage'. :D If it were just DH and me, we'd book it. Just unsure about our traveling companions. Thanks in advance for your reply!

The Havens facilities are off limits to non-Havens guests. Depending on the ship, you can invite them in for a meal in the Havens restaurant at an addition cost per person. The are welcome in your room any time.

also, they won't let SIL wait with you in the Haven waiting area. You won't even be checking in together .

You can still do this but your traveling companions won't get priority embark, priority disembark, etc.

What ship is this for?

Is The Haven totally off limits to them?

Yes, although they can dine with you up to 2 times in the Haven restaurant at a cost of $25 pp per meal.

Would we be able to invite them in to the bar for drinks before dinner?

No.

Could we have them over for cocktails on the balcony?

Yes but drinks delivered to you by your butler are not covered by the UBP.

DH's sister is a solo traveler. Could she wait in the boarding lounge with us?

Possibly. Arrangements can be made PRIOR to boarding with the concierge desk. It is at their discretion. If allowed, she will be escorted onto the ship at the same time that you are. Her check-in process will be the same as yours. That's why it must be approved prior to your arrival.

Boarding with non-Haven guests has been done by us (mother and sister were non-Haven) as well as dining on our balcony with them but everything else Haven-related (pool, sundeck, restaurant, reserved seats at shows, etc.) isn't included. However, your concierge can make reservations for the entire group at a specialty restaurant.

With such a large group and only 2 of you possibly having Haven access, there would be some "separation". If being together as a group is important, you'll still have plenty of time to spend together but you'll also have the option to enjoy the Haven as a couple.

Have you experienced this recently? Anyone?

Reason I ask is, I have read this "practice" stopped a few years ago. I also read that it is allowed, but posters seem to be reciting what they've read. I am trying to decipher if this really is a possibility currently.

Thanks, Sue

I am curious as well. I haven't stayed in the Haven but I always see these packs of teens roaming around, and occasionally I hear one of them say something like "I'm in the Haven, let's all go!" So I always assumed it was allowed to bring guests into the area. Sounds like it is just the room and they can't be wandering around in there or using the pool/lounge?

My experience is that traveling in in different cabins, whether Haven or not, we meet up for drinks, activities, and meals in public venues. I am still able to enjoy the Haven amenities.

One thing to consider, and this is JMO, is that the H9 is not a good cabin for entertaining. The layout and small balcony is designed for (2) people. I'd rather gather in a public place.

In AprilRads thread: "upsell to Haven Penthouse-sell DH". There is a response by SailBreakaway to a question I posed on visitors in the Haven pool. Don't know if its allowed or just sometimes ignored. Gerry

It's not allowed to bring "others" just because 1 is a Haven guest. An example of what you described occurred just last week...

...At one point we noticed a group of pre-teens come into the pool area. They attacked the gummy bears first and had to be "taught" to use the spoon rather than their hands. No one in the pool area complained about them, but I could tell no one recognized these kids. The crew members quickly approached them and asked them their cabin numbers. As it turned out, one boy from the Haven had invited his friends to join him at the Haven pool...he hadn't realized it wasn't allowed. They were asked to leave. They were only there 5-10 minutes. I had read reviews that some people try to "sneak" into the Haven. This was just interesting to watch how quickly the crew noticed and asked them to leave.

According to this CC member, it was the case July 2015 on Getaway....

I just recently got off from the Getaway and we invited our friends to dinner in the Haven. The charge for them was $25 per person since they were non Haven Suite guests. Hope that helps.

My mom and I travel in NCL suites and I introduced my niece to it last year and next it will be my sis, niece and myself. We have traveled with other family and friends not in a suite. We would meet up with them after breakfast or lunch in the Haven restaurant or we would dine with them in the MDR or non-Haven bar. Like others have said, we would have them up to our suite. In the past I always had a bar set-up and I would ask the butler to bring snacks. It is great if you can give the butler advance notice. And I always made sure to include this in my butler's tips.

Twice we sailed in the aft PH on the Sun and that verandah/balcony is made for entertaining. Also on the Sun there is no Haven. Just throwing this info out there for other readers... I know you are not on the Sun.

When we were introduced to the Haven by friends, (we were not in a suite yet), they gave us a very quick tour of the Haven common areas and explained to us that out of respect for the Haven guests they needed to entertain us in the confines of their own space. After that cruise we were hooked.

I admit it. I don't get why this question keeps coming up. I mean, pretty much everyone realizes that if you buy two admissions to the movies (or a theme park, or the zoo, or...) you can't bring your six friends or usually even your one child along for free. So why is it so strange that if you pay for two Haven passengers that you only have access for those two people?

There have been reports of people 'incentivizing' the concierge to allow exceptions, but these are generally rare. And honestly, I would report it, not to be exclusive, but on general principle. Tips are cool. Bribes are not.

The question comes up because people are simply asking an honest question. It is not that uncommon in the travel and hospitality industries to extend these sort of courtesies. This sort of thing happens all of the time. It is not something that is flaunted or proclaimed...or touted as a privilege.

You may not invite them to the bar for drinks before dinner. Only those in Heaven can can wait in the Haven area and be escorted on board. Those that are not Haven can not go on board with Haven Guests. Non Haven guests may not eat breakfast/lunch and/or dinner in the Haven Restaurant.

Non Haven guests may not use the Haven pool/spa/etc.

Basically, you ARE permitted to have them in your cabin. You may go to the bar yourself or ask your butler to get you drinks. If you have the UBP there will be no charge for those drinks, however, I don't believe the Butler is permitted to bring UBP people drinks to their cabin without charging for those drinks.

You also may have them over for breakfast or lunch or dinner in your cabin by ordering all the food from your Butler. Not sure what pkg. you have but you may have to pay for their food (and yours) but they may come to your cabin and enjoy a meal with you. If you choose to do this please remember to add a little extra for the Butler then you normally would as he/she is doing extra work for your guests.

People pay for the Haven, it isn't a courtesy to be extended - it is a transaction that is purchased.

Yes, you could invite them to dinner ($25 additional per person) and yes, they could have drinks with you in the bar/lounge before dinner. Some people are providing their opinion of whether this is appropriate versus actually policy. It would be pretty ridiculous (and unusual) for NCL to charge non-Haven guest to join Haven guest for dinner and then make them hurry through a bar/lounge to get to the restaurant and receive drinks only while seated in the restaurant (which come from the same bar BTW), but not allow them to order pre-dinner drinks at the bar. There's no one checking IDs at the door, it's really a relaxed atmosphere and as long as you are not causing any trouble, no one will question you. There is no written policy, that I know of, that says that your friends who pay to join you for dinner cannot also join you at the bar beforehand.

Said perfectly......Why should I pay 7k for a Haven room and see someone in there who paid 700 bucks for an inside room to enjoy the benefits because a friend is in there. when I travel with friends I dont book Haven rooms for this exact reason....and when I travel with my partner alone we book Haven rooms.

Everyone wants to be together! Together, together, together! Hooray for together!

How come nobody wants to be together, together, together at the MDR? Or the regular boarding group? Or together at the main pool deck? Can a group not find togetherness in these places?
