Hi,

I cruise on Royal and enjoy it. My TA tells me its time to give Celebrity a try!

I need to make a choice pretty fast

Royal Freedom of the Seas (NYE cruise) 8 nights, or

Celebrity Eclipse 6 nights

How is the Eclipse, we enjoy the nightlife on Royal (mostly good food, a la carte dinning, casino, we love a piano bar, comedy show maybe, not into the production shows but if different, we will go)

We are last minute... if we book with Royal, we can get an Inside cabin, no perks, cost is higher than the Eclipse with a balcony with perks (drinks, tips)

We love a balcony... it wil be hard not to have one... but we have not done a NYE cruise and think we might like it... For the Eclipse, we only board January 2nd...

Help and advice please!!!

Balcony, DRINK package...go for Eclipse!!! PLUS, we are on that sailing :). I think a change will be nice. We are cruising on the Regal Princess before we cruise on the Eclipse. We've been cruising Celebrity lately, and as much as I love it, I am looking forward to the change. Just something to consider!

A NYE cruise, and 2 days more does sound tempting, but, the balcony with DRINK package, lol, would probably win me over. I do understand the dilemna.

Let us know what you decide!

I hate to disagree here, but I would go with Royal on this one for you. You specifically mentioned loving night life and Celebrity doesn't offer as much in comparison. I've been on X NYE cruises and even NYE was pretty mild with people buying bottles of bubbly every where, putting on their festive items and getting the party going at 9pm, but the place/ship was a ghost town by 12:15am.

If you are interested in a more subdued night life expereince, then go X! X is currently my favorite line, but I wanted you to know what you were getting.

NYE cruise could be different but on most Celebrity cruises there is not much night life. Things are pretty dead after 11 most nights. No piano bar, probably a comedian one or two night in the Theatre but nothing like a Comedy Club. There will be some production shows, a magician or ventriloquist, a group or a individual singer in the Theatre.

There are Dj's and a band that play at the pool during the day and in other areas of the ship in the evening.

You will find a different atmosphere - more refined, one announcement a day, no announcements reminding you of bingo, etc. The ships are beautiful and food is very good IMHO.

Having been loyal to Royal the past years up to D+ level, I have gone back to Celebrity. Also done several NYE RCCL cruises..prefer the change and imho a more upgraded experience, customer service and food quality.

I would not hesitate to give Celebrity a try..... beautiful ships, way more perks if you get a suite too.....

I felt that RCCL had deteriorated in many ways, so am most happy to have had such an improved experience on Celebrity so far....good luck with your decision.

I wouldn't if it was in an inside

Normally I would pick the longer cruise though all things being pretty equal otherwise

I love both lines but I would always go with an 8 day over a 6 day anytime [emoji41]

I have done both, IMHO, X is not truly exciting, I was on the eclipse last year. I can only reference to the pool side venue, they try hard and the band plays hard but but lacked something special. There is a lot of upsale for 80$ bottles of champaign and there id, of course is free as will, if you can call champaign LOL. With the drinks package you get a better champaign but you have to ask for it.

I never ventured, into the interior celebrations, as mentioned above but may do do this year since we doing the 14 night Xmas and NYE on the Equinox. The MDR was one slightly more festive than the regular night, but that memory has slipped a little, maybe because it was not trulls special.

To some it up RC and the Freedom was more festive. You might ask, why not book the freedom again. At the time of booking, it was cheaper to do a balcony with perks on X than a B2B on the Freedom. Also BIG partying is not our thing, but we like to be around the excitement for a while and people watching and WOW many many people with exciting outfits are great to see.

We are Diamond, our last cruise on the Freedom was in Sept 2011.

We are Elite on X and have sailed on 2 of the S-class, they are pretty much alike.

The Eclipse will not feel as crowded as the Freedom, be more elegant and a tad more laid back ;) but you can find a party group somewhere every evening. We may be a tad older, but still know how to enjoy a vacation.:D

Listen to your TA, you will be glad you did.

We were on the Eclipse this past New Years and were on the FOS 2 years ago for New Years as well. Enjoyed both cruises but they were different. FOS was livelier, more party-hardy, nice party in the Royal Promenade, but too crowded not only on NYE but the entire cruise. Eclipse was more refined and less crowded, better service and food. Overall, we liked the Eclipse experience better. However, if you are late-night, party till you drop type people you would probably like FOS better. Both cruises were taken with older teens/ early 20's kids. We were concerned they may not like the lower-key Eclipse as well but they actually preferred it over FOS.

Whichever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

thanks everybody! We had decided last night to go with Celebrity, time for a change, etc.

Now, this AM, just got a great price on the Oasis, 8 nights... no perks of course, but another thing to think about lol

We need to chose and make final payment tomorrow.

Its not easy, Oasis leaves the 31st of December, so a big party when we board, and we love Central Park...

We are also Diamond on Royal...

A suivre!

Thanks !

We haven't been on Oasis-class ships so can't speak to that. Since you are Diamond on RCCL, you get reciprocal status on Celebrity so you will be Elite, just let them know when booking. We do prefer Celebrity over RCCL for it's better food and service as well as the atmosphere.

We are Diamond Plus on Royal and have sailed on Freedom of the Seas several times. While we are fond of the ship, we like Eclipse even more. We do a two-week Southern Caribbean cruise on that ship every spring, so, yes, we are fans.

We find the food to be better, the ship is roomier, the furnishings more comfortable and we love the upper deck lawn area, something no other ships other than Celebrity Solstice class like Eclipse ships offer.

If I had the choice you have, I would choose Eclipse, but honestly--truth to tell--I believe you can have a very nice time on either ship.
