Great Stirrup Clay updates

I have absolutely no problem with the change. I am sure there will be some interesting tours. For us it is a better itinerary: We have been to GSC and were not terribly impressed but haven't been to Nassau for maybe 20 years or close to 20 anyway. We hadn't even planned to get off the ship in GSC, so this will give us a reason to venture off.

So interesting twist. We are on back-2-back cruises Nov. 6th & Nov. 13th on the Breakaway. We just received an e-mail for each cruise regarding GSC being closed and therefore no stop there. Both cruises we will spend the night in Nassau BUT on the Nov. 6th cruise we will leave at 10:00 AM the next morning. On the Nov. 13th cruise we will leave at 6:00 PM the next evening. I am very curious why they are different since they we arrive in Nassau the same day of the week each week. We don't care one way or the other but as I said, just curious.

Probably due to how many ships are supposed to dock there. Not all itineraries are 7 days.

Would be a great question to ask the officers at our M&G on the 14th.....

There's probably a gazillion reasons: ships in port, expenses paid to The Bahamas for the extra day of docking, loss of revenue for NCL (casino being closed, GSC, bars, etc), satisfying passengers who enjoy sea days, etc.

There are so many moving parts and so many cruise lines making these changes after Matthew and Nicole that we could go crazy trying to figure it out.

The press release for the updates on the island.- Most of it wont be available till summer of 2017 but i found a blurb what is to be ready by jan 2017. is this what you saw?

From the many new shaded lounge and picnic spaces, to more than $1 million in new landscaping throughout the island, to new restrooms and lockers at the tender marina, guests will find a whole new experience by January 2017.

Probably. GSC is still scheduled to open on 11/20 as of today.

NCL won't say a thing. They'll let people book tickets thinking they're going to GSC, when NCL knows darn well that won't happen...because it'll sell more rooms.

It's really shameful of NCL.

Other than Nassau being a dump, a beach in the Bahamas is still a beach in the Bahamas. Get a day pass to an AI if GSC is cancelled.

This morning onboard Norwegian Epic, one officer advised there was some additional delay beyond the delay cancelling GSC for our current sailing. I didn't ask for any new date.

I'm on Norwegian Sky in a few short weeks, and not gonna hold my breath on original itinerary. It is what it is, and nothing I can do to change the past effects of Mother Nature.

We were on the Sky last week and went to Key West instead of Freeport and GSC. Personally, I prefer KW any day over Freeport. Yes, it would've been great to experience GSC. The hotel director said the private island is scheduled to reopen on the 20th. The hurricane did substantial damage to the island and it wouldn't surprise me if the opening was delayed further.

Were you scheduled to go after the current "official" re-open date of 11/20?

Do ya'll think it will be open by feb? We have booked a cabana for it and would be so dissapointed.

Yes, the island will be open by Feb. You always have to watch the weather because it is a tender port. High winds or high seas will force them to cancel the port call.
