Escape - Haven Question

I am thinking of booking either the Aft Penthouse Suite or the 2 BR Family Suite in the Haven on the Escape. Our travel party is my wife, my 22 year old twin daughters and myself. I love the idea of the Aft Balcony, but was wondering if anyone has experience with them vs. the 2 BR, especially as it relates to the sleeping accommodations for our daughters. Is the second bed (couch) comfortable for two young adults.

Thanks in advance.

Many people struggle with the H4 vs H6 question, you aren't alone. :)

My advice is to list the differences and weigh the advantages/disadvantages between the 2.

H6 advantages:

  • Larger balcony (balcony size varies between decks).

  • Aft and side view.

  • Price (usually).

H4 advantages:

  • More spacious stateroom.

  • More sleeping options for 4 - One child could use the 2nd bedroom while the other sleeps on the sofa-bed or if they share the 2nd bedroom, one could sleep on the pullman bed.

  • Located within the Haven vs. the long walk from the H6.

  • All master bathrooms have the ocean-view vs only 4 of the 14 H6s with the same/similar view on Escape.

There are other factors depending on deck for both. For example, a H4 on deck 18 might have an issue with loungers being moved directly above in the morning (port side is noisier) while deck 17 won't have that issue.

For the H6, deck 15 might have an issue of noise from the Garden Cafe in the morning and Spice H2O in the evening.

For ME and my family, the H6 is better since we spend so much time together on the balcony. IIRC, the sofa-beds that open as a double are the same size for the H4 and H6 but as posted above, the twins don't have to share in the H4 like they have to share in the H6.

In your case with adult daughters, I'd recommend the H4 on 17 if available.

We had a 2 bedroom in the Haven on the Getaway and our friends had the aft suite with the large balcony. In my opinion, the 2 bedroom suite is much, much better. Yes, the balcony is small, but....you are in the Haven, and can easily walk outside of your room to the Haven pool or sundeck area. You also have the bar, restaurant, hot tubs, everything within just steps from your room. When you go to shows and are escorted by the concierge, or on the last day for debarkation, you meet the concierge in the Haven lounge.

Also, regarding the room differences, having the extra bedroom and bathroom your daughters can use free up the living area and balcony when the girls are sleeping. Having that extra space comes in very handy. On the Getaway, the aft suite's second bathroom was very very small. I am not sure if the Escape's is larger, but no way I would want to use that second bath on the Getaway's aft suite.

  • 5 months later...

I had the 2 bedroom and the second bedroom is tiny as is the balcony. I'm booking H6 next time. I'll save some money. If they are used to sharing a bed in a hotel they will be fine. There are 2 bathrooms, a large balcony and you still get all the Haven amenities. You just have to walk. Also, we found if you are in the Haven it is a hassle if they want to bring their new friends around. Their friends cannot get into the Haven

Our sons are 21 and 20. We sail on the Escape next week in a H6 cabin. We are in 9318. I can let you know how it works with them in same bed. To us the huge balcony and aft view was worth them sleeping together for a few nights!

I've sailed twice on the Getaway in a deck 9 aft PH. While I loved the balcony, the second bathroom was extra small....but not so small that I wasn't able to use it daily (I'm not a small person either). What I didn't like was the walk...about 4 minutes....to and from the Haven. I know 4 minutes isn't long, but when you forget something in your cabin or want to change from dinner clothing to a swimsuit....and adding in elevator waiting time, it just became a nuisance.

This cruise, I'll be in a 2 BR, deck 17!! Easy-Peasy!

I would not want to sleep with my sibling in the same bed for a week, especially at 22 YOA. With that said, I would sleep with my MIL in the same bed if someone else was paying my tab for a Haven stay.

I have not shared a bed with my sis for 50 years until Feb 2017. One week on Epic in Owners Suite. King size. We have laughed over it. Her daughter was on the couch.

I agree, depends on the situation. My sons (24 and 19) would never sleep in the same bed but my daughters (21 and 20) would have no problem with it.

Definitely with your family of 4 I would go with the 2 bedroom Haven suite. We cruise with our 2 teen daughters so I know exactly what you are dealing with. I can tell you, having them sleep in the living room and using that for all their luggage, clutter and crap does not make for the suite life! It would actually be a nightmare having a lovely living room trashed by my teens all week and then having to share the lovely bathroom with them. No. They would overtake that bathroom. It would really suck being in that situation and knowing I could have chosen for them to have their own space and their own bathroom.

The girls will be more comfortable having their own space, their own beds for napping or sleeping in late and their own bathroom!

100 times over I would vote for the 2 bedroom Haven with your family situation.
