We may only do one cruise next year. Doing a a short 4 day cruise out of Mobile in May, might be a possibility. I will have a lot going on (G*d willing) next year and want to mainly focus on the cruise for Oct. 2017. We'd like to do a Halloween cruise again as well. I've been on the Sensation and Triumph and want to try out a different ship.

Vista's itinerary is:

6 Days - Leaving Miami (9 hour drive)

Ocho Rios (1st visit)

Grand Cayman (1st visit)

Cozumel (visited before)

Price: $1697.06 (2 people - Cove balcony)

Magic's itinerary is:

7 Days - Leaving Port Canaveral (7 hour drive)

Cozumel (visited before)

Belize (1st visit)

Mahogany Bay (1st visit)

Costa Maya (1st visit)

Price: $1826.82 (2 people - Cove balcony)

I have sailed the Magic and really liked her. I have read reviews on the Vista and am not impressed or even slightly tempted.

I am glad Carnival offers different choices for different tastes. Personally I'd do the Magic. I've done that itinerary, less Costa Maya, and enjoyed the ports. Lots of closet space, fascinating atrium, great clubs for teenagers, easy to navigate.

Of the three Carnival ships I've sailed, the crew has been the greatest and most consistent asset. I doubt you could go wrong on either.

Pick one and enjoy!

I am leaving on the Magic in three weeks with that itinerary and am booked on the same itinerary on the Vista for next October! But if I had to choose between the two, extra ship time would win for me...Magic!

Definitely, the Magic. I loved that ship. Given that you havent been on any of these newer ones, there's no reason to pick the newest just because its newer. You'll be very impressed by Magic. Plus, while Vista might have some things that Magic doesn't, it also took some things away that Magic has. Also, I like Magics itinerary better. All that in addition to the extra day & shorter drive.

To bad you are being swayed by bad reviews of the Vista. I think more people will write to complain, than will write to praise. I sailed the last 2 Meds and TA, and loved the ship. I wouldn't hesitate to sail her again. Some of the complaints I've read are not complaints to a lot of people. Maybe you should try her one day and decide for yourself.

As for the OP questions, I've never sailed the Magic, but I will always pick a longer cruise over a shorter one, and the drive would factor in. If the Vista was also 7 days, I would pick it, because there is just so much to do.

.

Just to be clear, bad reviews haven't swayed my thinking. Rather descriptions of the ship itself have convinced me the Vista isn't for me.

Neither did I think the original post was a "bad review."

I am in no way bashing the Vista. I am saying I have found my perfect fit on the Dream class ships.

Happy sailing on whatever ship is right for you.

I see three places you haven't been on the Magic and a shorter drive. Cost a bit more but it is an extra day. Me personally. I loved Mahogany Bay and want to go back and still have stuff in Belize I want to do so I would pick that one.

Just curious what you mean by descriptions of the ship? We sailed her in the Med and she is our favorite ship so far. So many things to do or you can go find a quite place to relax with all the outdoor seating venues the ship has.

To the OP I think that is a tough one. The extra day on the Magic and the shorter drive would be tempting but the Vista is a really nice ship. You cant go wrong either way.

I'm booked on the Vista. Same itinerary. Did the Magic in August with a different itinerary, but my vote is for the Magic. Port Canaveral is closer for you and an excellent port to leave from. And the Magic is a great ship with a great CD and all new ports. It's worth the slightly higher cost. Enjoy whatever one you decide!

Based on cruise duration and itinerary I would probably go with the Magic. I like the styling and interior of the Vista better though.

My problem is, I can't get over the gaudy styling of the interior spaces on the Magic. From what I'm seeing I much prefer the sister ship, the Breeze, or the Vista for that matter. What's with the bazziollion clamshell/domed lights all over the walls and ceiling, and the weird green accents? Looks like an outdated Vegas casino to me. Plus, the stateroom styling and furnishings are very basic from what I'm used to.

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually booked on the Magic for an Eastern Caribbean next November, but I'm also booked the same week on the NCL Escape. Trying to decide between the two.
