NH Cruisers Posted June 11, 2017 #529 Share Posted June 11, 2017 Look the whole world knows the perils of smoking and the effect it can have on you and everyone else in a confined area.Every one except NCL that is! I do not have a problem with people smoking outside, but allowing smoking inside is irresponsible and downright wrong. (Think of the poor staff who have very little choice but to suck in someone's second hand smoke! at the casino) Come on NCL for once put health before greed. I would think a casino worker has no problem working around smoke. If they did, they would not last long. A proven fact, non-smoking casinos get less business. I personally do not like smoke, not at all. I could handle going on cruises with out casinos, maybe make another use for the space.

Rare mesci14 Posted June 11, 2017 #532 Share Posted June 11, 2017 I would love smoke free cruising! I hope the cruiselines are monitoring this and seeing the number of people who are interested in it. Anytime one person does something that infringes the health of another person it should be restricted in any public areas. I have been on cruise ships where you can't get from here to there without going through a smoking area. Unfortunately like chair hogs or adults only areas you will always find those who won't follow the rules because they don't like them or think they don't apply to them. Rare eileeshb Posted June 11, 2017 #533 Share Posted June 11, 2017 I was surprised that the smoking areas weren't more restricted, or that the smell wasn't more controllled from spreading into non-smoking areas when I went on my first cruise recently on the NCL Escape. A lot of people pass straight through the casino on the way forward/aft and we're no longer accustomed to second hand smoke day to day given changes in regulations on land. The first time I went to Portugal after the smoking ban was introduced in Ireland it was a shock to my lungs as smoking was so much more prevalent on the continent even before the ban was introduced in Ireland. DMH15 Posted June 11, 2017 #534 Share Posted June 11, 2017 Not enough for an all non smoking ship. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk They did a poor job. Same old crummy itinerary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Except the casino smoke from the new mega ships permeates massive non smoking areas which turns them into second hand smoke areas and IMHO unusable to non smokers This has been debated and acknowledged and those that say this isn't true are either oblivious or just caught the area at one of the rare times the smoke wasn't permeating it or perish the thought just refusing to acknowledge the problem Of course on jewel class ships like the gem the casino and its smoke are easily avoided I still can't figure out why in this day and age the ncl bigwigs would have commissioned such poorly designed mega ships with open air smoking allowed in open areas that many pax would normally gather nor why their atrium is minuscule and Ocean 6/7/8 on the BA is beautiful but smokey and difficult to walk through much of the time Le bistro as well I don't get it. Do they not understand that smoking areas should NOT waif into non smoking areas? Once my FCCs are used I'm going to X anyway regardless of price so ncl and their designers are really a non issue to me going forward anyway other than the 1 cruise I plan to take with them over the next 4 years I'm also going to let ncl know why they lost my large family to X. You see just as we are all finishing up with tuitions and my kids are now self supporting young adults....and we all have more disposable income....well you get the idea Bye ncl And yup good riddance !!!! boopsahoy Posted June 12, 2017 #538 Share Posted June 12, 2017 NO!!Majority of people DO NOT smoke. Smokers should pay the premium. Nope they will lose out on the Casino money and all the smoking cruisers. I have lost as much as $4000 on a cruise-and I am not the only one. It has to be made up somewhere. Norwegian was idiotic in setting it up the way they did. They cater to families - I doubt you will find many parents who want their kids exposed to second hand smoke. Their designer needs to be fired.

Does it make it so that a tiny bit of smoke permeates out of the casino? Maybe, but I can barely tell. It certainly is not enough for them to make the casino non-smoking. Also good that it doesn't bother you but again let's not call it a tiny bit of smoke Also you post previously that people need to get over the smoke issue Well I happen to agree with you So until ncl realizes they have a significant smoking and second hand smoke issue I am getting over it by leaving ncl Everyone will be happier that way. Oh and i previously posted this change for me is coming just as my cruising budget has significantly increased too. Jana60 Posted June 12, 2017 #546 Share Posted June 12, 2017 I wonder if NCL ever looked into having specific cruises be 100% non-smoking? If they did: 1. Would you book one? 2. Would you be willing to pay a premium to book a cruise that was 100% smoke-free? 1. Yes 2. No Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Forums mobile app
luvtheships Posted June 12, 2017 #547 Share Posted June 12, 2017 Don't all land casinos have the same smoking issue? Seems like a fact of life if you want to gamble Sent from my iPhone using Forums But are land casinos all open air like the ones on the ncl mega ships? Forcing not smoking non gamblers to have to endure the smoke to say have a drink at maltings? Have dinner in le bistro? Among other places near the casino? I don't think anyone that wants to gamble but won't because of the smoke is the issue. Gamblers will gamble regardless of smoke I know an oncologist who spends days on end in ships casinos. I believe the real issue is that non smokers who don't gamble but cannot avoid the smoke from these ship based open air casinos And these ship based open air casinos are impossible to avoid So to reiterate it's not a fact of life nonsmoking non gamblers need to accept And as I previously posted I've decided to leave ncl after one more cruise I've already decided not to book their mega ships again but perhaps their jewel class will be where I use my FCC. The designers knew what they were doing with those ships Sent from my iPhone using Forums

NLH Arizona Posted June 12, 2017 #550 Share Posted June 12, 2017 I don't think anyone that wants to gamble but won't because of the smoke is the issue. Gamblers will gamble regardless of smoke Not entirely true. I love to gamble, but when the smoke gets overwhelming, I will quit. I was just in Las Vegas and Tahoe and was totally surprised that the majority of the gamblers didn't smoke. I think statistics say that only 20% of gamblers smoke, which based on my observations seems high. I would love to see NCL follow Celebrity in having a non-smoking casino and I would bet that they really wouldn't lose much, because if Celebrity did, they would have changed it back to smoking in a heartbeat.
