Mariner Of The Seas Refurbishment

Recommended Posts

I am curious to see how they will handle the reposition cruise. I am pretty sure they will not need the extra gambling venues and it looks like there will be a lot a D, D+ and PC onboard.

I am pretty sure they will add the flowrider and deck 12 cabins. They could even try to add some watersides.

Plus, Mariner has not had the flowrider or deck 12 staterooms added (and probably suite lounge and Izumi).

Bummer for the SL. I booked many B2B's on deck 9 next summer to be close to the CL.

They were pretty good deals through the casino.

At least they are all refundable.

I did that on the Liberty and they turned the CL into a card room and put in an SL that I could not use.

On Sports Deck 13, the RCI’s signature waterslides “Cyclone” and “Typhoon” will be installed. Also on deck 13, a FlowRider (surfing simulator) will be installed.

These "signature" waterslides had to be one of the most underwhelming features added to Adventure. I know people pick ships based on all these gimmicks, but folks, you'll find better slides at your neighborhood pools. My kids went on the slides once or twice and gave them a resounding, "meh."

Mariner is going to run no passengers according to on board staff last week from Cadiz to Miami.

Why would they do so ?

That would imply that they do not expect to finish everything in Cadiz and will be working on it during the crossing..

Oh - OK . Still this is going to be a very long dry dock all the way from May 7 to June 22 .

What's that , 45 days ? Wow that's a long refurb .

It's going to take a lot of work to de-chinafy Mariner.

By not making the TA a revenue cruise it provides more flexibility by not having to have all the work completed at the time she leaves the yard. Any work that was not completed in the yard could continue during the crossing without having any impact on passengers.

We Sailed Navigator (Mariner's nearest sister) just before and after her dry dock when the upgrades were done. It was a much better ship before.

I have sailed Navigator pre and post upgrades. I don't know that I would say it was a much better ship before. What did you think made such a difference for you?

MUCH MORE CROWDED due to addition of excess cabins. Impact most pronounced on pool deck and Windjammer. Missed the 2 story disco and did not like how Viking Crown Lounge was hacked up. We had 3 cabins on the post refurb cruise - all of them had toilet issues (we think because of the extra cabins).

They took away the back 9 of mini golf and did nothing with the space. Same with the new deck space on top of the spa. Waiting area for the spa, lost its ocean view.

A least with subsequent refurbs (Like Liberty which we have also done) they did more with the space - a full water park in the back, new golf course on top. But if they are going to add so many more cabins, what's really needed is another pool and free eating venue for lunch.

I'd have no problem with the extra people if they took the new deck space over the new cabins and created a new adults only solarium (with pool and or hot tubs) up then and freed up the existing solarium to all. Also, If they have to hack up the two story disco, the for fee dinner venue that's put in its place should be open for free lunch, especially on port days.

And finally, they should keep the same crew to passenger ratio they had before the refurb. Adding, bar stewards especially to service the extra passengers.

No problem at all with them getting rid of the walls of photos and putting cabins down there.

We were on Mariner between Dubai and Singapore when she repositioned to Singapore. The casino and other public areas were under construction as more space was converted to Asian style gambling venues and most of regular casino was being converted. New staff was being trained including customer service manager and staff. The work had started when they left Houston and continued until Singapore so effectively folks who did Houston to Singapore were on a "drydock" cruise and were livid about not being told the ship would be under construction the entire time. I was glad to see that the TA was canceled since based on past experience a lot of work would have been done prior to the scheduled drydock and probably a lot of staff changes to leave the primarily Chinese managers and start conversion to more English speaking management. I loved the ship itself and hope to cruise on her again after this massive drydock.

I believe you are correct. I am wondering if I should be concerned about pre-drydock demo on the remaining 2 legs of the Odyssey. I am trying not to worry about it because there is really nothing I can do about it at this point. What ever it turns out to be, we will make the most of it.

We had a fun cruise and enjoyed spending time with the new crew especially in Windjammer prat ice their English. Some of the girls were especially excited that we took time to talk to them. DH and I went to some napkin folding classes and his favorite was a shoe with a pointed toe. He made one in the Windjammer and his favorite girl loved it and next day she comes back with a rose napkin for him. She had gone looking for someone to teach her how to do one and was so excited to give it to him. We tend to find many ways to enjoy ourselves and once we understood what was going on with renovations during the repositioning, we just ignored the problems and enjoyed the small pleasures on a cruise. I imagine that the worse part of renovations will occur once in drydock but I would guess they will start. Enjoy the port stops and hope you have a few days in Singapore pre-cruise. We met some lovely people there and the city was beautiful. You can spend all day in the airport and still not see everything there. You'll have a great cruise, just go with a sense of adventure and don't let the small things bug you.
