caribophile Posted August 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Is there a way to know whether the bed in a given stateroom faces forward or aft? Hope this doesn't seem like a trivial question but as someone who has issues with the ship's motion, I would like to select a stateroom with the foot of the bed nearest the bow. SchoolNurseMom Posted August 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2017 It depends on what type of cabin you're looking at.

Hope this doesn't seem like a trivial question but as someone who has issues with the ship's motion, I would like to select a stateroom with the foot of the bed nearest the bow. If you have a problem with motion, you certainly don't want a cabin "nearest the bow" that could be one of the worst places you want to be. Look at a cabin on the lowest deck, midship for the least amount of motion. Check the Royal deck plans..available....just google and see which you would prefer. skynight Posted August 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2017 You can ask Princess about certain cabins. They should have more detailed deck plans that show where the bathroom/closet area is. If you are referring to port or starboard balcony, deluxe balcony or mini suite cabins the headboard of the bed will be on the same side as the bathroom/closet area. When you select a cabin on Princess the booking default is that you will accept an upgrade. If direction of the bed is important to you then you have to indicate no upgrade when booking. The no upgrade option can not be done on line, only through a T.A. or with a direct phone call to Princess if booked directly. I have had cabins in both directions and find no difference in motion. Wishing on a star Posted August 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I actually looked this up and found a thread with some good information. Do a search. The thought is that the bed (and bath) will NOT be placed on a wall that is a Firewall. Maybe the logistics of the plumbing and electric. Look on the deck plan... Find the nearest firewall, where you will see indication of fire-doors that can be closed across the hallway, and you will know which way the beds face, on either side of that firewall. The bed in the cabin just AFT of that firewall will be facing forward. The room/bed orientation is alternated between forward and aft. So, you can kind of count from there to your cabin, alternating, and this should be a good indication of which way the bed is facing. In general, the more forward, over that bow... and the higher the deck, will be more motion. This, and cutting back on the amount of walking onboard, is why mid-ship cabins are deemed more desirable, and are priced a bit higher.
PoohUnderstands Posted August 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Thanks Wishing on a Star! If what you say is universal on all Princess ships I just figured out my bed will be facing aft which is fine with me. Pooh

If you look at the Deck Plans, sometimes there is an odd number of rooms between fire separations and sometimes an even number. Since the layouts alternate in pairs it won't work out as indicated. Steelers36 Posted August 31, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 31, 2017 what type of cabins on princess have beds that face either forward or aft? ive heard of sideways insides. Balcony cabins have beds facing forward and aft. Sideways inside cabins have the bed(s) in the same orientation, whereas regular insides have them facing port/starboard. I cannot say for sure, but I suspect all exterior cabins have the beds perpendicular to the window/door. I also don't think you can count the cabins from a fire door and count on being correct. I tried to find out from Princess once if they had more detailed plans, and got nowhere (it wasn't that critical to me to pursue it, but I would agree that somewhere at Princess, there are detailed enough deck plans that you could figure out the bed orientation - all you need know is where the door is. But those aren't readily available as a tool for the phone reps). If we are on a regular inside, I prefer the door opens so that walking straight in gets one to the left side of the bed. That way when I come in late from the casino, it's less disturbing to my wife. Less light gets around the corner from the closet and bathroom area. By the same reasoning, I would want the head of bed to the aft in a starboard balcony and the head of the bed forward in a port balcony. Does that make your head spin? Or eyes roll?

Wishing on a star Posted August 31, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 31, 2017 MGA, you are right... I just checked the area on Caribe on Regal where we are booking, and the alternating thing wouldn't work out.. If the first cabin aft of the fire door faces forward, by alternating, the last, most aft, cabin in that section would, indeed, end up with the bed and bath on the firewall!!! I might see if I can contact somebody and find out about our cabin... Unless somebody here has access to that kind of info.
