Hi all,...it appears the Majestic will be with us for extended seasons for the next coupe of years,...YAY!!... ( we are on the Sept sailing)...

there has not been too many reviews about, and a few people have commented on the lack of bars and dancing areas, which will be a bit of a concern when we Aussies board for a fun time! lol..... do you think there will be a few adjustments to things before she comes to our waters?.... I realise a lot of space is given over to various gaming areas, for the Chinese market etc....any thoughts?..:):)

We were booked on Majestic for a New Zealand cruise in late September but decided to cancel ..for a number of reasons one being a real concern about how the ship and crew will adapt to the Australian marketplace.

I was a little unsure when we booked due to the very prominent marketing of this ship as for the Chinese market , and this concern just grew as time passed and a number of very negative reports on this issue were published.

We decided that this is NOT what we wanted for this trip and as we have done a number of cruise to New Zealand this was not unknown territory for us and the Ship was of more importance than the Ports

So as we had booked this on Golden Princess last year we can cancel without any loss.

In the end we have decided that this next trip will not be a cruise and we will be flying to Lisbon from Melbourne for 4 nights and then onwards to the Island of Madeira for 14 nights then we fly home.

As I said a little different we have self catering apartments booked but will most probably eat out most of the time

Well I hope that helps you a little with considering Majestic Princess

Regards

John

what so when any ship repositions down here your going to cancel a cruise because you don't know how the crew will adapt to the australian marketplace??? i find that laughable, sure it was marketed to the asian market but obviously things have changed, will be great to have a ship with different dining options and who cares if it hasn't got a crooners, being on the royal there are plenty of other drinking options, i think the majestic will be a great addition to the aussie market.

Don’t both Ovation and Voyager do this each season without any problems?

You need to cruise and make your own decisions or you are going to miss some truly wonderful experiences. Opinions are just that [emoji851]

G'day Sandra and Dave, re Majestic, no walk around promenade deck and that is sad. We are on Royal Princess, similar ship in a couple of months, also no promenade deck. Many Princess pax report on the missing prom deck on the Royal Class ships.

It will cater to the Aussie market, there will be plenty of drinking places, big revenue there. As for the dancing areas, not sure, I am not a dancer anyway, I have two left feet, lol.

We are booked on the Majestic for her NZ New Year cruise this coming December. When the deck plans for the Royal Princess were released a few years ago I was disappointed that there was no wrap-around promenade deck, no aft pools and that most of the balconies were on the small side. It will be interesting to see if the lack of these features makes any difference to our enjoyment of our Majestic cruise. I doubt it. The Majestic also lacks the Wheelhouse bar which has always been our preferred drinking venue.....but I'm sure we will adapt.

We sailed on the Diamond Princess a year after she had been 're-jigged' for the Japanese market. We had cruised on her 3 times and she was our favourite so wondered how changed she was. As it turned out, apart from the Japanese bathhouse which in Australian waters didn't seem to be popular and which meant that one of the public pools was no longer public, we enjoyed her as much as ever. Interestingly, as we had sailed on the Sapphire Princess the year before after her drydock where the International Cafe and Vines etc. were added, we decided we actually preferred her to the "Japanese" Diamond. We cruisers are such a fickle lot!

We couldn't do anything to change the Majestic's promenade deck, or her pools but we did book a mini-suite on the hump which gives us a slightly larger balcony...and I stress slightly, but hopefully I have chosen a deck where the people wandering around on the "Sea Walk" won't be peering into our cabin.

cheers

Lisbon and Madeira are fantastic places. And what’s better there are few Australians about, which means you get a real holiday, which entails getting away from your everyday culture just as much as travelling.

Thanks Stu, yep, the Diamond is still our fave, with Solstice a close second, so we are looking forward to the Majestic, and I'm sure she will be a popular ship here downunder... will also be looking forward to the reviews once she's here, I will def be doing one for sure!

We have friends that have just returned from a Majestic cruise

They say that they had a fantastic cruise === BUT and the but was due to the type of concerns that bothered me

IE thie ship was geared for gambling in a big way and no quiet lounges to enjoy a drink and watch the sea go by , if you want to do that it was from your own balcony

Vista Lounge was set up for gaming and not for trivia or the suchlike

Food was good , however it was not quite the same as we understand being slanted to Asian tastes which is to be expected

there was some problems with English language many staff had no understanding and Mandarin was the language they understand

The Pizza and the specialty restaurants were VERY noisy located as they are in the central plaza

Our friends have made many cruises and are well traveled their comments seemed to be fair and well balanced a fantastic cruise BUT and its the BUT thats my issue and reason for ditching my cruise on Majestic I think something like Astor might suit

c

Anyway its great we have the choice of ships

Regards

The sea walk is a bit of a novelty although I am sure that anyone nudist on their balcony below would not care about having an audience, which may get more people utilising the walk.

Then Princess could charge pax $20 to do the 'nudie appreciation seawalk.' Plus 15% gratuity. Would us Elites get our 10% discount off that purchase? :p

So I am looking forward to venturing onto the Seawalk on Royal Princess, just for a lemonade at the Seawalk Bar, not for any other devious purpose suggested by Uncle Mic.lol.

This is the beauty of the cruise industry, there are differences in lines and ships so that people's tastes can be catered for. I haven't cruised on anything but mass market lines in the last 20 years and they suit my needs fine. They don't sound like they suit yours which means you can move to more specialised lines.

If Princess start charging, I want part of the action, and it should be at least 50% (plus Gratuity) if I am going to parade naked below the sea walk.;p

I’m on the Fiji cruise in September on one of the slightly bigger balconies on Emerald. I’m looking forward to experiencing a new ship (to me) and any issues with changing to the Aussie market won’t bother me [emoji3] I booked this ages ago at a fantastic price [emoji16]

I haven't had any issues with any of the ships that visit Australia whether they come form Asia or not.
