If you get a chance, can you ask Captain Dag if he'll be on the Grand South America?

Thanks

I will indeed ask Roy.

Jacqui, we got off the Prinsendam when you got on! It was a wonderful Grand Voyage and we were sad to leave. Unfortunately Captain Dag was only on for our final two weeks which is way too short a time!! We enjoyed all our interactions with him immensely, and I'm pleased to say he signed my Seabourn Quest Antarctica cruise photo book for me (he was our Captain on that voyage).

I wish we could have had a Block Party while on the Prinsendam, too, but by the time Captain Dag arrived, we'd been on the ship for nearly 6 weeks, and it IS sort of an ice breaker which you would want to do early on. We had a Block Party shortly after we boarded the Quest, so perhaps this is something Captain Dag suggested the ship arrange. What happened was at 5 pm or so we went out into the hallway outside our room and were served champagne and chatted with our "neighbors". Then moments later Captain Dag and the Cruise Director strolled by to chat with us as well. Great fun!

While in Cobh, check out the gift shop on the pier in the little train station and look for the lovely sterling silver Celtic knot necklaces. The box on mine says Celtic Lands by Sea Gems. They are so well made and finished, and I adore wearing mine. There are several kinds of knots so you're sure to find the perfect one. Not too expensive either.

And also, while we were on the Prinsendam there were many chilled fruit soups on the menu, for the person who asked. All were terrific. I really miss my waiter, Riris, and assistant Ardian. He is in the aft dining room in the evening, but you may run into Riris during lunch on sea days in the dining room. He's hard to miss! Tell him Sandi and Dennis say hello!

Thanks and I will say hi for you.

I've already seen Riris (it's a small ship ;) )

The Block party is something Captain Dag does. It's a first for the Prinsendam and I suspect a first for Holland America.

Hi Kazu and all!

Sorry to hear about Bristol being cancelled but.........welcome to Cork!

For those currently onboard with limited internet connections, if I can offer any help in arranging your visit to Cobh/Cork, please let me know and I will try my best to get you the relevant information.

Thank you kindly.

I'll see if I can get my Titanic tickets when we get to the Azores. Not going to try to do it here.

We should be good I think. I understand the town we will arrive in is quite cute.

Everyone seemed to have fun at our wine tasting..

A lot of laughter and smiles.

Here are a few pics and a tad of food porn. I worked all night making these appies and spend 3 days collecting cheeses - LOL.

A combination of the block party after was probably not wise but kazu had no crystal ball and to top it off, we have Sel de Mer tonight.

thank heavens we are with friends that were also at the wine tasting. LOL.

Here’s a few pics for you and I will be back later. Sel de Mer awaits and the minutes tick by quickly.

Love your photos - are you in the PS for this sailing? The cabin looks huge!

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

Gerry

No the PS was a big negotiated upsell splurge for my 60th over 4 years ago.

It's just a Neptune Suite. The nicest Neptune Suites in the fleet IMO. Just doing it for the TA and then steppiing down for the next segment.

Couldn't resist for the TA though. Two TV's - curtains around the bed, etc.

Technically the room is smaller than the other Neptune Suites in the fleet but is SO well laid out that we had no problem putting 26 in today for our wine tasting. (Gotta put the room to use ;);p).

I will be back tomorrow. Zonked. We had our wine tasting and then the block party and then...Sel de Mer. OMG it was DAM good.

DH is worn out from entertaining and all the activities so we are not rolling up the carpets tonight ;)

Even the Canaletto has a special menu on this ship.

Will share tomorrow and our Sel de Mer and other stuff.

Suffice it to say that this is still my favourite ship in the fleet so far.

A superb captain and crew. Who can ask for more?

More tomorrow internet permitting ;)

If you're OK with slopes (some steep) Cobh is very walkable.

I walked up Spy Hill on street view and had to sit down for a rest half way. Video normally makes things look flatter than real life due to the wide angle lensbut this still looked steep. I have got my breath back now but we know it'll be too much for us. I did notice bus stops on the way up the hill so that is another possibility. I also used the contact form (asked about October) but have had nothing as yet, no real reply, no auto-responder.

We're on the 10:15 tour at Titanic Experience. Anyone want to "embark" with us?

Embark might be the right word for it. We visited a Titannic Exhibition when we were in Victoria (B.C., lovely place). I don't know who did it (only on a short season) but it was very well done and very moving. On entry your ticket was like the original boarding cards with some ones name on it, an actual passenger, at the end of the exhibition you found out what happened to that passenger, rescued or not. This brought it home and made the experience very memorable.

They seem to have changed the default number of posts per page back to the original value. A few months ago the last page counts of all my threads halved, now they have doubled back to where they were. To do with performance perhaps.

Roy, I saw Captain Dag this morning and asked.

He is on 'vacation' during that cruise. Good news for him but bad for you as he will not be with you.

Does anyone know what time you are due to arrive on Sunday in Horta? They are an hour behind BST I think, so I might just catch your arrival if I am up early enough.

JG, we get into Horta at 8 am.
