New Ship

Looking at that Conservatory suite - I may be wrong, but it seems like they will offer more balcony space. No doubt, at a premium over the traditional balcony cabin.

I can't seem to see anything that looks similar on the AIDANova plans. Unless they are either the suites forward or in the mid-ship area.

Any ideas?

They look a bit like the infinite veranda cabins on Celebrity Edge.

I knew I had read about these sort of folding balcony door cabins somewhere recently.

I wonder how they manage to ensure the air con does not work overtime when the doors are folded back?

We were thinking the exact same thing, but I am not sure if the external window are in 2 sections and will move up and down as they do on the Edge to make it like a balcony or just a glass wall. (If you know what I mean). TBH I would be surprised if Celebrity hasnot got a copyright on those balconies as they are pretty unique - says she who has one booked next August (excited, excited!)

:)

^Thanks for that link. It looks great, I can see wh P&O have opted for it, they're going to be popular.

Terrierjohn, good question about the A/C. You'd think it'd have some sort of override on the outer window that turns the air down when it's opened. They can't just leave it to passengers to remember to turn the A/C off... it's just not going to happen.

That's the Celebrity Infinite Balcony --- just remember that the P&O version may not have the drop down balcony window. I am surprised that P&O have given so little information.

Have to add --- I still think that the ship is too big ...

Not so. Emerald Waterways have had this feature on their river cruise ships for several years. The upper part of the window can be only partly lowered if desired. On Emerald there is also a fine mesh roller blind which can be lowered just inside the window, to give a little privacy or shade, or to keep out flying insects etc when the window is open. On Emerald Star last year I found that the system worked well allowing access to fresh air without taking any space off the cabin. I am surprised that ocean cruise ships have not done this before. No good for sunbathers though!

I think that Celebrity balcony window might just become the norm for future newbuilds, especially if balcony dimensions continue to reduce, that way it could make the small balcony seem a lot bigger.

^I agree - these balconies may become a regular feautre on future ship (though not in every cabin).

And the way they are making it out to be more than just a balcony..

(PR fluff alert!)

It offers great flexibility and creates a distinctive relaxation and socialising zone.
Translation: Basically any standard balcony cabin.
With a direct connection to the sea, the space is cool and shaded - and perfect for chilling out in. In the evenings, it transforms into a spacious environment for private celebrations and socialising over pre-dinner drinks with friends and family.
Its as if no one has ever though to sit on a balcony day or night.

And it's not just the Conservatories. This is for the standard balcony cabin...

Balcony cabins also allow greater flexibility for outdoor dining using the Room Service menu.

Just how big are the baclonies on Iona going to be? (!)

For certain, they've got to be bigger than Britannias!
