Royal Caribbean Fights Back!

I watched the interview yesterday on MSNBC and those lawyers are so...so...so...ARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH. My niece married one so I can't say. Only the lawyers are going to come out of this with some satisfaction. The captains theory is totally, completely plausible. You got 1 jerk and his bimbo wife on a honeymoon. They lack the maturity to know when to quit drinking. Like some men, George gets violent when totally smashed. He's in the elevator with his bride as she flirts with the casino employee. Gets her back to their room, gets enraged with jealousy, and kicks her out. He falls or runs into something busting his lip/nose (and you know they can bleed as much as a scalp wound). To cool off he goes to sit on the rail on the balconey where he finally passes out, falls onto the awning and into the sea. Meantime, bimbo is passed out in a hallway after wandering around wondering where to go after hubby got mad that she flirted with another man. They'll make a TV movie outta this!

Hmm, good theory.:)

We were told on our June 5 Brilliance cruise that the captain was retiring in December, so it was planned well in advance of this event. It's a shame, too, as he was the most accessible, personable captain we've met.

The Captain was interviewed on I believe the Today show yesterday morning where he re-iterated some of the statements that was in the press release.

Based on this latest development, I believe the woman is somewhat embarassed of her actions that night (being found asleep in the hallway, etc) so is trying to implicate RCCL as much as possible.

I totally agree with this. And as it happens, a relative of the groom did finally mention that they thought that Jennifer had more information than she was letting on, but said that Jennifer was told by the FBI that she couldn't give out any details.

Right. What I cannot comprehend is 1) why you would spend your honeymoon partying with other people to the point that you end up passed out in the hallway and 2) If you show up for a couples massage and your husband doesn't show up, why you go ahead and get the massage--I'd be frantically trying to find my husband.

Hi...Totally agree with you. We had the priviledge of dining with him when he was on the Grandeur. I was quite impressed with his friendliness and sincerity. I think he is getting a "bum rap" (for want of a better phrase)...Helen

P.S. We were in the OS next to the bridge, and he talked to us every morning in port. Also, whenever we saw him on the ship, he was friendly and quite personable.

George Smith's family and their lawyers are just after money. They really do not want to hear the truth on how their son acted on the cruise. People do stupid things sometimes while drinking.

I am glad Royal Caribbean is fighting back, lets see there people on all the interview shows, instead of the Smith family.

I am really glad that RCCL finally issued a statement.

After reading it through I have to say I was appalled that any couple, much less 2 people whom have just PLEDGED their lives to each other forever, could have not become alarmed when new-spouse is drunk-off-ass and just 'doesnt come back to the room' but 'sleeps somewhere else'.

Hey, whatever floats their boat and makes the relationship work but - if my DH knew that I was drunk-off-my-ass and I didnt come back to the room, he would assume something bad befell me and start looking....

I have to say, after reading that article, I am starting to wonder if this isnt truly just a really bad accident. Seems like it is perfectly logical, and incredibly tragic, that this guy maybe just got really plastered and possibly fell off his own balcony by accident.

While watching Rita's show last night and listening to what George's mom called in to say, I had trouble understanding some of the comments she made. After reading the transcripts today, it was clear to me what she said. George's mom said that she had gone to the island in Greece where Captain Michael lives (to see him?...to try and get answers?).

She had said in another interview a couple of weeks ago, that they had a trip planned to go over there, on a fact finding mission I guess....as Dr. Phil would say, "how's that working for you".........LOL...bet they come home empty handed....

She was very hateful last night I thought......

I agree with a lot of the comments being made on this thread.

1. The wife knows way more than she is letting on.

2. I wonder if RCL did not make any statements, in the past, because of the ongoing investigation. Their lawyers probably told them not to until more information was known. Conducting investigations myself as a paralegal, I don't release facts until I have spoken to everyone I need to and have all the answers.

3. The actions of these two individuals says a lot about their character. Someone mentioned earlier why are they hanging around other passengers when they are supposed to be on their honeymoon.

4. I heard, on a tv show sometime last year, that the wife was seen flirting with the casino manager (I think that was the ship's employee's title) and that they left the casino together. Maybe she was returning to her stateroom, from his, when she was found lying on the floor.

I'm sure there is a lot more information that we have not been made aware of for obvious reasons.

I am glad that RCL has taken this step to set the record straight so the public can have a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the groom's fate.

At first I felt bad for the widow and both families. Now that I have heard the other side of the story I think that she and her husband definitely had some type of mental or physical problem and feel bad for the cruise line! I mean what couple does not sleep together in their cabin on their honeymoon cruise???? And the widow is found sleeping in another hallway and admits that the husband was sleeping elsewhere??? Give me a break!

RCCL should sue the pants off of those two families for the bad press!

Call the looney bin and tell them to make room for another customer real soon!!!!

Good for RCI!! Too bad they can only go so far with their information. I'm sure they are wanting to share further facts and are under instruction by the FBI not to with respect to video trails, room key trails, discussions with the "real" witnesses, etc. Some day....hopefully soon.

This is the same casino manager that was groping her in the elevator in front of her husband, according to Josh the kid who was hanging around with them during the cruise.

It's about darn time RCI stood up for themselves and quit letting the media lay the blame on them!! Anyone ever heard of personal responsibility?

Lawyers who are press hounds or ambulance chasers should have a special place reserved in the hereafter!

Her Drunk Azz was sleeping in the hallway, on the wrong side of the ship, and it wasn't the first time that he/she hadn't made it back to the cabin during the course of the cruise. Would love to have the video cam shot of that!!!

CLASSIC!

For all of you amateur crime solvers out there, a little note of interest:

www.cruiselaw.com

Does that name James Walker ring a bell? Not only does he maintain that website, he is also known as the attorney of one Jennifer Hagel Smith. Personally, I think he's one of those people that had rubbery lobster on formal night and has devoted his life's work to getting even with the cruise industry.

I saw the story on CNN. Very well done. Gave the facts not sensationalism. The family is talking about all this blood in the room. If there was as much blood as they say, one the security people who brought Jennifer back would have see it. 2 Jennifer when she got up in the morning would have seen(unless she is hiding something). Three when the Captain went in on July 5th he would have seen it.

If the cruiseline is covering up something, why let Dr Lee onboard and Greta do some of her show onboard.

The lawyer for Jennifer Smith said they should have gone in the room. If Securcity came busting into my room when there was no noise coming from it I would be mad. He also said that that is what the passengers wanted them to do. Really would they like it if security came busting into there room. NO.

As it was stated by Captain Wright, future Captain of Freedom of the Seas, on Abrams & Rita Cosby show, Brilliance's Captain retired 2 years ago on the day after his 30th year. Just so happened he did her show on his anniversary date.

With allthe falsehoods going back & forth, we are getting pretty sick of it. Even close to 1300 posts on the topic are no gone. WHY?

I cannot believe the "retired" Captain called it a boat....sheesh

When did he leave RCI, I wonder? Was it voluntarily?
