So as promised in another thread a report about gin on th Sunshine Coast. Two weeks ago I went to an event held here on the Coast. this was the speaker.

At the end of the event this fellow was invited up to be presented with an Ukrainian flag. He is the owner of my favourite distillery on the Coast. He had produced a gin just called Ukraine. I did buy and consume one. However he had raised $A450000 from that Gin. The money has been didtributed to organisations looking after the orphans of Ukraine.

He has now produced 2 more gins and a Vodka to raise funds for demining Ukraine. Here they are.

The second was for the General who lead the liberating forces.

The Vodka is interesting as the name is of a dog that finds the land mines.

Coincidentally the gin I am drinking at the present is one of his gins made with dragon fruit and released on Valentine's Day.

Canada?  Quebec City?  After being in the area west of Toronto in Waterloo last month, we are flying into Quebec City Sunday early afternoon.  First time there to do this historic city.  After exploring the Canada Maritimes late last summer and in the summer of 2019 doing Calgary, Jasper/Banff National Parks, Western Canada Rocky Mountaineer rail adventure and Vancouver, we are ready to discover more charm, food and culture in our northern neighbor.

Will be in Quebec City till Thursday afternoon.  From all of the great experience here at the Cooler, what are your best tips, insights, loves and suggestions for this town with North America's oldest streets and excellent French/British history.  Favorite dining locations?  Can't miss hidden secrets?   Understand many movies and TV shows have been done in Quebec City as it has the wonderful "looks" of Europe, but being closer for the stars and crew to reach and use than flying across the Atlantic.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Late Summer 2022, many scenic visuals and details from Canada Maritimes doing Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton Island, etc., via a Tauck land tour.  Visual Summary:

Terry, we have been there twice but only in the dead of winter.

Our favorite hotel is l'Auberge Saint-Antoine down by the waterfront in the lower town. Château Frontenac is pretty and nice to walk through but we liked the smaller place.

If we ever get back there in the summer we'd like to tour the citadel again (it was 40 below when we were there). Lots of parkland nearby which would be nice to wander and enjoy views of the river.

The upper city is nice and there's lots of little shops along Rue d"Aiguillon. But we got to go ice skating too which I guess you'll miss out on this time of year.

Out of town a bit visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans for a change of pace.

Auberge Saint-Antoine has a great restaurant too. Otherwise I don't remember any particular restaurants.

Enjoy!

Appreciate these great suggestions and follow-up from super traveler J.P.  Excellent, as always.  Dining at Auberge Saint-Antoine looks excellent, but it is priced at that higher level, too.  So far, I have not won the Mega Millions Lottery.  We might also get some rain while there, so we will have to consider how the "logistics" goes for getting around there if we have to dodge the drops from heaven.   Keep it coming!!

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

We stayed in Quebec 4 years ago. We were meant to be on a cruise on the Scenic Explorer but instead of that cruise being a year after that ship began cruising it was it's maiden voyage so we cancelled. talking to a couple of the passengers it was the right call as it was a building site on that cruise.

However because we were meant to arrive at Quebec port we also stayed at the L'Auberge Saint-Antoine. We agree with JP.

We were there for 3 nights and dined here in the old city for 2 of those nights.

For starters Rojaan had the beef tartare and I the white asparagus. Both excellent.

Definitely on the recommend list.

The other restaurant in the Lower City was this one. A quaint restaurant that needed some TLC but the food was good. But preferred the first restaurant.

Rojaan started with Foie Gras torchon and I the duck poutine. Both were really good.

Rojaan the had the moules et frites-were about 5 dozen so I helped out. They were good.I went for the pork Osso Buco. The pork was excellent and I enjoyed the switch.

A walk around the Lower Town is a must, Plus Parliament house and walking down the Grande Allee is also worthwhile.

Made some gnocchi for dinner. A container of ricotta and an egg mixed with Parmesan. Add salt and flour then put the dough in a plastic bag, cut off a corner, and pop them into a pot of water. It was all mixed up in a food processor so really easy.

Finished with olive oil and fresh herbs. Delicious with a Vermentino di Sardegna.

The only problem is that I'll be starving in a few hours. Chris said they'd be even better with bacon.

Appreciate the great follow-ups from Dr. Ron and Lois.  Wonderful and tasty visuals!!!  Makes me hungry for such tasty treats.

At the airport now, super early this morning, getting ready to board and fly to Philadelphia, then to Quebec City.  Noticed last night that the Silver Shadow will be in Quebec City, arriving later today/Aug. 13, at 5 pm, departing tomorrow late evening from wharf 30.  It will be docked to north of the historic Old Town.  This same Silversea ship will be back Sept. 5 & 25.  Plus, Oct. 15 & Nov. 4, 2023.  Anyone from The Cooler doing (or has done) these SS St. Lawrence sailings?

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

The Silver Shadow has arrived in Quebec City.  We came in by airline mid-day.  A little before the scheduled 5 pm time, I captured this below visual of the Silversea ship after it had docked in the marina area near the historic parts of this super charming city.  More tomorrow from Quebec.

Appreciate the nice follow-ups.  Below is a small sampling as to what can be seen and experienced in this historic city with so much going back to the early 1600's, its walled old city, cobblestoned streets and much more.

For those coming in on the Silver Shadow (or departing), Quebec City is a location meriting added time as there is so much charm and character here.  Below is only a small, tiny sampling for our first afternoon here.

Much of the history is about the French vs. the British.  Lots of military, architecture, culture, etc., differences and contrasts here that makes everything so interesting.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

From our hotel room in Quebec City's historic area this morning, we were lucky enough to have a view of the Silver Shadow.  Here's that photo image with some of the buildings shown.  The sail-away is later this evening.  Good luck to those on board.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio
