jeanlyon Posted August 26, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Why on earth won't the ins company pay out? Why not ask P&O to change the cruise to a different one say next Spring?

Can’t put further details down or telephone contact number in case breaking rules on CC. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Sorry to hear about that. I would think (but do not know for sure) that your booking is not transferable to another passenger. Certainly most other companies stipulate that as a condition What I do know, however, is that the 12 month stipulation for a transfer of a cruise booking to another cruise of the same or greater value with P&O does have a discretionary aspect. We book direct with P&O and were considering cancelling a cruise and our former Personal Cruise Specialist (who we still book with) told me not to worry about the 12 months as she could waive the time limit. I would hope that there is a workable option for you. Good luck.
HELEN HENRY Posted August 26, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Why on earth won't the ins company pay out? Why not ask P&O to change the cruise to a different one say next Spring? Unfortunately Jean, too complicated as to why Insurance Company will not pay out Unfortunately we will not be able to book any further cruises due to the nature of the illness. Thank you for your suggestions much appreciated.

Selbourne, Yes,probably could change name of family passengers on booking, but unfortunately, at present we are all in too much of a shock and none of my family and myself able to think about any future cruises. Thank you very much for your assistance. Very much appreciated.
Waju Posted August 26, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2018 I am sorry you won't be able to take your cruise in November. I think P and O will change names on a booking, obviously for a fee! There is a website that I came across a few weeks ago that will advertise your holiday. If you Google transfer travel you should find it - hopefully you will be able to get some of your money back. Rare Selbourne Posted August 26, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Thank you very much, just need now to try and find someone who would like to purchase our cruise for half price. So sorry to hear all this Helen. It sounds as though it’s a difficult time for you and I am sure we all wish you well. I’m sure that P&O will try to help you if you explain the position. You never know. I should think that selling a cruise to someone else may sound straightforward but you might run into problems with the flights, given all the security concerns these days. Again, P&O should be able to advise you what your options are at the very least. I’m sure that there must be a solution of some sort. Once again, good luck. Adammara Posted August 26, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 26, 2018 You need to contact P&O first, when my wife had cancer in 2005, they followed the rules to the 'T', and we had to cancel the cruise, they were most unhelpful. It then took over 3 months to get our money back from the insurance company. When she recovered, we could not get insurance for anything cancer related, and were restricted to certain counties in Europe, the rest of the world was a big no no, Even now getting insurance is difficult, one of the reasons we only cruise occasionally. Adammara, thank you for your reply. It is a very stressful time at the moment and know exactly how difficult it is dealing with insurance companies. Yes we have already contacted P&O and looks as though we are able to change names but not exactly confirmed yet, but the problem is trying to find someone to buy our cruise from us. Really at this moment in time I feel like just writing the whole thing off, but very grateful for everyone’s input. Thank you

qm2lover Posted August 26, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 26, 2018 So sorry to hear this. Worst nightmare. Hopefully P&O will be compassionate. On another site, which I cannot mention - but is the one you are not allowed to put links to and has numerous P&O cruise groups there are quite often posts with people trying to sell cruises. Hope you can get something sorted. Thinking of you. xxxxx
tring Posted August 26, 2018 #18 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Sorry to hear about your position and hope you manage to sort something. Perhaps this can be a bit of a warning to others to make sure they have full insurance cover. I assume if the insurance will not pay out in the case of illness, then it is likely to be because a pre-exisiting condition was not declared and the necessary supplement paid to cover that condition. Thank you[/quote Hi Pat I am so sorry to hear this as we were so looking forward to meeting up with you (we are on Britannia). I feel your pain as we should be on Azura at this moment but have cancelled as my dad was very poorly and then passed away on Thursday. We are hoping the insurance will pay out too. I hope you can get this sorted and in the future cruise again as I know how much you both love it. Sending you lots of love Nicola x

I assume if the insurance will not pay out in the case of illness, then it is likely to be because a pre-exisiting condition was not declared and the necessary supplement paid to cover that condition. This is not necessarily the case. Helen states that this is a sudden event. Several years ago we had booked a Cunard cruise and then had a sudden diagnosis which looked to a heart operation in the coming months. We hadn’t paid the final payment though. Cunard offered to transfer the deposit to a future cruise. Our doctor completed the medical form which asked, ‘in your view, is this person fit to travel’. He replied yes but understood that the insurance would not cover. He thought he was helping us. The insurance company refused to cover the deposit on those grounds. When I stated that they had declined to insure us, I was told that many people travel without insurance for all health issues (this would be pre-existing, as you mention) and we could try that! Helen, I do hope that, above all, the ill health condition improves and also that you are able to sort out the cruise dilemma.
