Equinox ship wide power blackout

Recommended Posts

No second day at sea. Forward motion has stopped.

Then you've definitely got power. The ship needs power to reach the satellites.

You're saying propulsion is down?

The backup light came on in our room and within a minute or two Captain Kate came on and announced a black out. The lights are back on but the ship isn’t going anywhere at this point. I’m sitting on the balcony and will relax and let the crew do there jobs. I’ve never heard of this before. Thoughts.

I hope Bugnaked (Captain Kate’s kitty, see her Instagram account, it’s awesome) didn’t chew any cables.

Where are you?

First time in 150+ Celebrity cruises!! Still dead in the water. Cabin lights and A/C working. Captain said power still out to non-essential areas.

In the Caribbean headed to St. Thomas. Elevator power just restored per Capt Kate's announcement. "Engineers trying to determine what happened"

I shouldn’t have read this! We are on the next sailing. The last thing I want is for it to be cancelled due to a power failure instead of a hurricane! :(

Yes that is our first stop. Ship only stopped moving for maybe an hour.

Someone clearly blew a circuit breaker with their rice cooker.

Lol. That’s gotta be it. Or maybe an instant pot...

First thing to do it to go to the toilet, before the pumps stop working. And I hope celebrity ships are better designed (compared to Carnival Triumph, and Costa Concordia, which are nearly the same design), not to have single point of failure (a single point with the principal switch boxes).

People in steerage were discussing the "Donner Party Solution." [emoji6]

Actually, almost a non-event. Toilets, wi-fi, AC (other essential services)via backup generator very quickly.

Solstice class ships are built with two separate engines in case one fails (learning from the Carnival Triumph fire). I also experienced a power outage on the Constellation, after the tech team updated their computers the prior day. That upgrade shorted out the ship's power. They repaired it while we were in port.

You should be up and running shortly. Happy sailing!

I am sure Celebrity appreciates these posts minutes after power went out--no one can give them a chance to fix it!

Why cause concern immediatley?

Has your itinerary been effected?
No. It was very brief. We were only doing 16 knots yesterday enroute from Miami to St. Thomas.

HCAT - you gotta love it. Vessel lost power, not moving but adrift and your concern was about the pool filters! That's called cruising priority . Keep up that spirit :D

Well, for one thing -- I got an email, early this morning, from a friend who is onboard the ship. Her CPAP shut off, when the power went out -- a pretty disturbing wake-up call (especially with all of the lights off). I, for one, greatly appreciate the posts by Tommy, Charlie&Linda, and others, who are currently onboard. It's reassuring to hear that things appear to be under control. But, then again, I was sure that they would be, with Captain Kate at the helm!

Markf. I for one was not criticizing anyone. I said I was on my balcony letting the crew do their job and no one else seem to panic but they just provided information.
