GRAND docking San Fran

Does the Grand "back in" or "drive in" at port? I have seen videos of them "backing in". I have been to SFO three times on other cruise lines and they 'drove in".

I am pretty sure we have started backed in the various times we have sailed on the Grand.  But surely they dock in the forward position at times.

All the times we have cruised on the Grand out of San Francisco, the aft is facing San Francisco.

We live near the city and see it in port quite often.  I’ve never seen it bow in. Always aft in.  Maybe it’s my timing.

I have taken the GRand a number of times... the bow is usually facing the street... the web cam shows it docked .... bow forward.

On all of our cruises on the Grand from pier 27, we've always backed in with the bow facing the bay.

We were backed in in Oct 2016.

This position would be sweet for us! We will be on the Ruby next week and have a cabin on the starboard side. Would love to be able to see the Bay Bridge at night!

I assume the Grand backs in because the main corrider they use to move things around the ship is on the port side. Would make sense that everything it loaded and unloaded from that side.

we have sailed on Grand several times out of SFO both old pier and new pier..I've only seen bow facing Bay, as far as how they get that way I'm thinking they come in aft first parallel to dock, backing into slot them side thrusters to move her to pier.

If anyone has been on the Grand or any other Princess ship out of San Francisco they always back in as they need that side to load & unloade things. My photo is unusual because you would normally see a refueling barge which is not in the photo. This is the first time I have never seen a refueling barge there.

Princess always back their ships in at Pier 27 in San Francisco, yet every other cruise line I've seen does the opposite with the front of the ship facing the City.  I've always wondered why Princess does it differently then everyone else???

We did a BVE on Grand Princess. When we got off we stayed a while and wandered around. Crown Princess was there as well and it was docked facing land. I got a picture of a small potted tree in the window of the bridge.

Just got off the Grand yesterday.

One of our favorite Head Waiter's told me the Star will replace the Grand in 2020.

He was very sure about that...we'll see.

If it's true...we'll have a skywalkers again.
