Most affordable international cruise from Australia?

 Share

Recommended Posts

A relocation cruise tends to be cheaper.

Plus we only had to pay $250 for our Qantas flights  Hong Kong to Sydney through the cruise lines flight booking service. They of course subsidised the flight.

Other ways to save money on international cruises

-book an inside cabin

-sail out of Singapore to reduce flight costs

-look out for last minute cruises out to the Islands (Fiji etc)

Does anyone know of any affordable cruises from Australia?

Since it's so isolated it tends to be expensive to cruise from. Anyone had any eperiences to the contrary?

That is a vague question.

Probably New Guinea from cairns on a P&O ship

These days cruising is more affordable than its ever been.

Most affordable ???

Whatever your budget will allow and whatever you feel comfortable with.

I do agree that the relocation cruises from Singapore are good buying ....as are some of the world cruise segments.

Also depends on your "wants" ....we preferred balconies all the way so tended to look for best priced balcony cabins and sometimes managed to grab a special on suites for not much more.

OP since you are new to cruise critic you may not know that on the Australian/New Zealand board we have an always active thread called El Cheapo Cruise Thread.

Keep an eye on it for cheap cruises mainly out of Australia, some are international relocation cruises or cruises to PNG, NZ, New Caledonia or Indonesia.

There are always cruise deals to be found especially in October and November.

Welcome to the AUS/NZ board.

Come back and let us know what ports you are interested in cruising to.

It's hard to guess what the OP deems as affordable but many cruises out of Australia, especially those that depart and return to Sydney so there are no additional major land transport costs, can be good value for money as long as you're happy booking an inside cabin. Since all meals are included in the fare and there is brewed coffee, teabags, usually some sort of cold drink, and chilled water available in the buffet areas all day at no charge, and all entertainment is also included in the fare. So the only onboard costs are optional items - speciality coffees like espressos or lattes, alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, bottled water, photos, excursions, spa treatments and the casino.

There are often good last minute deals, also booking immediately the intinerary is released can also end up being the lowest price fare, and on Princess you can often get your booking refared if there are price drops before final payment - but you have to monitor the prices regularly.

Willis Island?

they actually have to anchor and have a commentary we did it a few years ago with a Cyclone around anchor touched bottom and may as well have been a bouncing ball it came back up so quick.

not sure it makes it an international cruise but impacts on the ability to sell tax free on board, or some such thing, I read up on it once, but can’t recall the precise details.
