susan1957 Posted February 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2019 I have been reading current reviews of the Conquest. People are referring to this ship as "OLD"....Correct me if I am wrong...I watched a video when the Conquest went through a MAJOR OVERHAUL....DRY DOCK...not even 2 years ago....It looked quite extensive.... People use the phrase ..."this ship is old"...though it was clean....Am I missing something....can a ship that received dry dock....look that run down ...in less than 2 years.....I am on Conquest in April.... BoDidly Posted February 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) Surface rust can play havoc on the looks of a ship , but after all that's all that it is, surface rust. Carpet ware on a ship with tons of people walking on it will last around a year or less before it shows. Conquest is old ,but still reliable or else she wouldn't be at sea. BTromboneFrack Posted February 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2019 We've been on the Conquest twice and we're scheduled again on her for this Christmas We were on the Disney Magic when it was brand new. We were on the Carnival Magic this past Christmas. We enjoyed the Conquest every bit as much as the others and even enjoy the Ecstasy and Paradise as much as the newer ships. Being old is not bad as long as it is clean and the staff is great - which it always has been. The Conquest has a lot of the new venues on it and it has always been a good time for us. I'm sure you will enjoy your time.
JaxsMama Posted February 7, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2019 I got off last week and it was perfectly fine. It's just gold and gaudy like an older ship.
susan1957 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Thanks everyone....Hey I cruised on her in 2015 before dry dock and I loved her! travelchica915 Posted February 7, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2019 We just got off the Conquest on Saturday and it was fine. Some of the decorations are out of date, but it's clean and has lots of upgrades. No complaints at all.
BrezQ Posted February 8, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2019 We've cruised on her twice, she is definitely an older ship, but we still had a blast and even booked the Glory for this year because we love that ship! (it's similar) The staff and crew were wonderful! I guess it's about preference, if you like the new/shiny etc, it might not be the ship for you! It was dry-docked, but still has wear! We liked it so much, we sailed on her again! Enjoy no matter what you decide!

RWolver672 Posted February 12, 2019 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2019 The Conquest was built in 2002 making her roughly seventeen years old. How many that say she's old live in houses that were built before 2002 and still think of them as relatively new? Seventeen years is not old for a ship. We've sailed on her twice. The first time was when she was brand new. The second time was in 2017 when she was fifteen. I can't say she was outdated. She still had the same decor but the decor never had a date on it when she was built. Gaudy to some, maybe. Pretty to some, maybe. Even interesting to some, maybe but not dated. She has been very well maintained. Everything worked, everything shined, crew was friendly, can't imagine how many coats of paint she has on her. (By the way, I've always wondered how much just the paint alone weighs on a ship of that size.)
pe4all Posted February 12, 2019 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2019 We got off Conquest 2/2/19. Did not notice any wear and tear at all. In fact, the gym had all new fitness equipment since we last cruised her in 2018. Had such a great time on her that we will be sailing on her again in March. And Matt was a great CD! evandbob Posted February 12, 2019 #12 Share Posted February 12, 2019 Been on Conquest Class ships maybe 25 times, and we are going on the Conquest this weekend for a premier casino cruise. Getting old? Sure, just like me. Younger than the Fantasy class for certain. I stopped sailing Fantasy a dozen years ago due to their age. So Conquest class was my fav and go to cruise ships until I started sailing the Dream and then the Vista classes. They do show some rust and old Farkus gaudy decor, but they are still serviceable and affordable. I'll still sail Conquest class ships when I get a good casino fare, but lately my preference is turning towards the newer, larger ships. We enjoyed the Horizon, MSC Seaside, and just booked the Symphony of the Seas. The new larger ships seem less crowded, sail smoother, have way more options for amusement and dining, and are more relaxing for us. JMO, YMMV. brookeq Posted February 12, 2019 #13 Share Posted February 12, 2019 We went on it by ourselves without the kids and had a great time. The only reason it would feel "old" to us is because it didn't have the upgraded water slide area for our kids. Or skycourse.
