Hello Everyone,

I am going on a 5 day cruise on the Dawn for Easter. I was wondering if the still serve lobster in the main dining rooms. If they do, what day?

Thanks in advance....

No lobster on NCL.

RCI has both lobster tail and prime rib on the same day in the MDR once during a 7 day cruise. As many as you want, no extra charge.

NCL and Carnival, not happening. Not sure about some of the other cruiselines.

Carnival has lobster and prime rib on the first formal night of a 7 day.  Just prime rib on second formal night.  Can get either any night for a $20 upcharge.  Are you guys saying that on NCL there is no lobster, ever-or just on a longer than 5 day cruise?  That would be a deal breaker for me on switching to NCL for a cruise.

No lobster in the Main Dinning room !  They even took lobster off the menu at Cagney's.  They do have lobster in Ocean Blue on the Breakaway.

Seriously?   The lobster was never something to write home about.   You can get lobster at home.  I can't imagine that being a deal breaker when NCL has so much to offer.

I agree with Crazy4Camping.  They even took lobster from Cagney's now.  So disappointing, we happen to like the lobster on Carnival and RCL. I used to think NCL was a great value with a lot to offer.  Not so much now.  They've changed the drink package and raised prices to where, in my opinion, they are no longer my choice.  I do have on already past final for this March, but after that, it's Carnival again for me!

I stand corrected. My last Carnival cruise was a quick 3 nighter, so there would have been no lobster. I didn't realize they still do it on 7 night sailings, but it appears they do. Thanks for catching that.

And correct, no lobster on NCL

Please please tell me why to pick NCL.  My folks love NCL and refuse to cruise any other line but I don't think they've tried many others.  We went on our first cruise a few weeks ago(Carnival)and it was fine but have wondered about other lines and I'm afraid to book with another line and it's not as good.  This is not an every year thing for us so it's important to me that I make a good choice if we do another cruise.  It wouldn't be for a few years though.  My dad used to always rave about being able to eat anything anytime including things like lobster and prime rib so that would be the kind of thing I would look forward to(this is obviously no longer the case on NCL).  Yes, you can get lobster at home if you can afford it just like there's nothing else on the cruise you can't eat at home.  It's just the point of not having to cook and having all you can eat of the good stuff!  😉

I am a Platinum member on NCL, but will not be as "loyal" in the future. They no longer have lobster..at any restaurants, they have done away with straws, they continually increase gratuities, they have "down-sized" the menu's at most of the specialty restaurants, most of the lower fares require you to book a "guaranteed" stateroom, customer service is not what it used to be, and I could go on and on, and this is just within the past few years. I have cruised on most of the other cruise lines, and I will be going back to them. Why should I pay more and get less? That is how I feel about NCL right now.

I think I’ll try to request “Rock Lobster” from a DJ to get people in the mood for lobster, only to be mostly disappointed. But I can dance the heck out of that song and look really, really good in the process.

The seafood restaurant on the Escape offered both cold water lobster tail and cold water steamed whole cold water lobster on my Caribbean cruise out of New York in January.  Unfortunately, both are previously frozen.  The tail was large and reasonably good, but the lobster flavor was covered by the oriental vegetables and sauce (soy?) that they put over it.  The whole lobster was small and not particularly good--I can see why the waiter tried to steer me to the tail both times.

If lobster is a must for you, there is no reason to pick NCL.

Yes things like that are a must when paying so much for these cruises.  I expect the food to be good tasting/quality or why bother to cruise?  Everything else you pay separately for so I would expect that at $100s a night per person for a room that the included food would be good.  In comparison, any casino has an all you can eat buffet including things like prime rib and it's usually like $25/person.  Some of them the drinks are free if you are sitting at a machine.  So again, why cruise unless the food is exemplary?  So yes, deal breaker for me-too bad I found out after booking our cruise that the lobster/prime rib options were only certain nights.  But at least we had it.

NCL may quite possibly be the ONLY place in the world that you can go on a seven day vacation, and not have the opportunity to order a lobster or have a beverage served with a straw!

Previously-frozen, baked warm water "lobster" tail is to real lobster what canned spaghetti is to good Italian food.

That being said...Previously-frozen, baked warm water "lobster" tail, is still better than almost any other entrée they have in the MDR or Specialty Restaurant IMO.....you are on a large cruise ship that serves several thousand meals each day, it is not going to be like eating at grandmas on Sunday! You have to compare "apples" to "apples". Is the lobster that NCL previously served better or worse than the lobster served on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity?

Unfortunately, they charge a $15 upcharge to eat at that restaurant, plus they charge and additional $9.99 to order lobster, plus you have to use one dinner credit.  All those extras just to get lobster on a cruise ship!  When Carnival serves them for free in the dining room!

I appreciate what you are saying but it's certainly not "free".  Included, yes...but only if you dress up and only on a 7-day and only 1 night.  It's funny that during our first cruise a couple months ago I could tell that the others at the table knew all this(I had no idea it was one night or anything)cause they each ordered 3.  LOL

Opinions differ, of course, and I respect yours.  However, I have had a substantial number of fine meals (and a good number of so-so ones) in both the MDRs and the specialty restaurants.  I don't view the poorly-prepared rock lobster tails as anywhere near the top of the pile.
