Shuttle from South Queensferry?

Just wondering how you get to downtown Edinburgh from the tender drop off at South Queensferry.

Does Princess provide a shuttle? If so, how much is it and do you need to reserve a place?  Also, how often does it run?

I have booked a free walking tour at noon and wanted to find out how much of a hassle it is to get to it.

Thanks.

When we were there the shuttle, a bus, was £6.  Local cab to center of town was £24.  Note the ratio. We grabbed another couple we met at the tender landing and jumped into the first taxi.  No waiting, same price.  On the way back it was pouring rain so we grabbed a cab on our own.  Cost us a little more but lots easier and more convenient

Princess doesn't provide a shuttle but there is a bus company that provided one last August.  Here is a link to the info provided last year.  We used it last year it was a great, cheap way to get into Edinburgh.  Took about 45 minutes to an hour to get into town due to traffic since it was around 8:30.

You can always book a driver ahead of time.  We did this the last time and it was wonderful.  It wasn't any more than a regular taxi would've cost us but the driver knew of our specific destination in Edinburgh ahead of time, how I wanted to get there and was expecting us.  I was referred to this company from people here on CC so am passing it on:  Seven Sevens

There is also the option of a short but lots of steps walk up to Dalmeny railway station and catch the train into the centre of Edinburgh.

The steps aren't that awful if you are in decent physical condition. Notes from our 2015 British Isles cruise:

After tendering into South Queensferry at Hawes Pier, we walked approximately 0.5 mile (0.8 km) to the Dalmeny Station. To get there, turn left from the tender dock and walk up Newhalls Road a short way until you see the signs for the station pointing to the right. Keep following the signs up the infamous stairs (about 110 steps) and along a path to reach the station.

The Dalmeny Station is on the Fife-Edinburgh Line; trains to Edinburgh Waverley run about very 20 minutes (www.scotrail.co.uk/sites/default/files/assets/download_ct/sr1505_edinburgh_-_fife.pdf). The trip takes about 20 minutes and costs 7.90 GBP pp round-trip. [Note: Princess' “Edinburgh on Your Own” tour costs $69.95 pp. A local company also offers a shuttle to Edinburgh for about 10 GBP pp round-trip.] We arrived in Edinburgh about 8:20 a. m., exited the station up the escalators to Princes Street, then turned right on Princes Street a short distance to the steps leading up to to the first high point on our tour, Calton Hill (338 ft or 103 m).

Yes they provided a shuttle last fall. I don't remember how much it was, which means it was nominal (<$10). Long line returning at end of day, but it goes fast.

How much time to allow for the return bus ride back to the pier/ship?

Thanks.
