Escape 1F Guarantee..Worst case????

So I was tossing around the idea of booking the Escape out of NYC this coming May to Bermuda. I have a comp'd cabin from CAS, but it's a "1F"... I have no clue what that means, other then its a guarantee stateroom, and the cabin will be decided for me. Is there anything else I should know? I mean, what's the worst case scenario? Are there staterooms on the Escape that I may get stuck with that are really that terrible? I can upgrade to a balcony for a cool G (1k) but I'm thinking about saving the 1000 bucks for the craps table, and "rolling the dice" so to speak, with this mysterious 1F cabin.. any insight/info/tips from you knowledgeable folks?

If it is early May Bermuda sailing, prices are dropping with fire sale, now ... $349 for 4/28 sailing with IX - GTY and next weekend is $499 p/p with IX - GTY.

Book it and see what NCL will assign, you take the chance & might up with a ID, IC or IB category with a better mid-ship location and deck level.

Besides, you can roll the dices again to bid up to an Oceanview (and, even for a Balcony) for much less than 1K in total.  Upgrade Advantage offers to bid are available to CAS guests, even for those using land-based certificates.  Less than 48 hours after our friends booked a last minute one (different ship, next month) - the offer to bid showed up.

If this is a comp directly from CAS (based on your play onboard) have you asked them what you could be comped on a different cruise?      Perhaps the cruise you asked them about is almost full.  If you can find a cruise you like that has lots of cabins left you might get a better selection.

The biggest complaint people typically have about so-called poor stateroom location is: noise.  It's possible to end up under a pool deck and hear chairs scraping around above you, near an atrium or theater where loud performances go into the late hours, above a night club or casino, or near engines or docking equipment.  But you could also end up with noisy neighbors or rambunctious kids/party types in the hallways, in any location.

Therefore I always recommend bringing soft foam earplugs - not only on a cruise, but really for any hotel as well where you can get an unpleasant surprise of this sort.

The only other concern I can think of is being a long walk from the nearest elevator; this tends to cut down on hall noise as there is less traffic, but some people don't want to have to schlep so far all the time.  If neither of these are a concern I would just take the free room.

You guys are awesome, thanks everyone for the info. My wife and I are in our early 30s so walking long distances is not an issue. We are also usually closing the casino every night so I don't think noise from either the casino or performances will be a problem. Unfortunately this specific sailing is the only one that will work for my wife and I due to our crazy work schedules, so I'm just going to go ahead and book it. Once it is booked, how do I go about bidding for another cabin? Will NCL send me an email, or will I have to log on to the website? Thanks again.

NVM - Just answered my own question. Logged onto myNcl and the option was there to bid for a balcony, so I did so.  I'm hoping they accept my offer.

I booked a 12 day on Epic for January 2020 on a CAS comp a few weeks ago and they also offered me an IF GTY with a perk. Monday I logged in and noticed they had already assigned me cabin 11029, a very good location. We are more that 280 days from sailing. I think they must have someone at CAS assigning their GTYs rather that the normal cabin pool.

Good to know! I'll keep checking the site. Thanks!
